This afternoon I decided to stop off at St John the Baptist church in Barnby, whilst on my way to the pub for some ale infused shenanigans! There has been a church on this site since pre domesday (c1086). Back then it would’ve been a wooden construction. The bulk of this building is 13th century, however extensive repairs have been made in order to save her. Not only did I find beautiful wall paintings inside the c13 St John the Baptist church, but, I also came across this very rare medieval door for the banner stave locker. This was where the banners used for medieval church processions would’ve been stored. If you look closely on the second photo you can see lots of intricate decorative patterns carved into the oak. I went to the 18th-century market in Isokyrö for the first time the other week, and it was so fun!
