Without question, this was Car of the Show for me during a lovely morning at Brooklands Museum for the Auto Italia Magazine Italian Car Day. I have always loved the De Tomaso Longchamp since seeing one in a World Sports Cars Magazine in 1989, but seeing them is a rare delight as just 409 were manufactured between 1972 and 1989, with just a small proportion of those configured with RHD steering. I love their rarity, aggressive Italian 80’s/90’s styling, and a great sounding V8 engine, and with this 1988 example being in a beautiful shade of blue, perfect condition and automatic transmission, resulted in me being absolutely captivated by it. 🏁 Op naar Sicilië, terugblik op Goodwood Members' Meeting! 🏁 Enkele weken geleden mochten we bij KB Technics deze Maserati 300S ontvangen. Een iconische raceauto, een toonbeeld van motorsport engineering in de jaren 50. Na intensieve testdagen op een circuit in Spanje had deze wagen onderdelen nodig voor de versnellingsbak. En omdat de weg van Spanje naar de UK via Pittem passeert 😁 hebben wij deze specifieke onderdelen op maat gemaakt. Tegelijkertijd werd de wagen aan een finale inspectie onderworpen als voorbereiding op de Goodwood Members' Meeting. Daar presteerde de wagen uitstekend en binnenkort vergezellen deze 300S bij een volgende wedstrijd. Dan bieden we technische ondersteuning tijdens de races op Autódromo de Pergusa (Enna-Pergusa) in Sicilië. Maserati Khamsin Following the tradition of naming their models after strong winds, Maserati revealed the Khamsin at the 1972 Turin Auto Salon, where its superb looks drew strong praise from all observers. After a two year gestation period, when Maserati was owned by Citroen, the new car entered production in 1974, where it met head on with its competition, Lamborghini’s Espada and the Aston Martin V8. The design, as anyone would expect was the work of Marcello Gandini, the genius who was the chief of the Bertone Designing Company. Transparent tail This 1977 Maserati Khamsin is one of 435 examples built during a nine-year production run and was sold new at British Motor Car Distributors, Ltd. of San Francisco, California. It was later owned by the former mayor of Reno, Nevada, for approximately 27 years and changed hands in the mid-2010s before receiving a repaint in Tobacco in 2016. The car was previously listed on BaT in January 2018, and it was acquired by the current owner in July 2018. Subsequent service involved re-trimming the interior in Cinghiale leather, overhauling the air conditioning system, rebuilding the shifter assembly and clutch slave cylinder, and replacing the alternator, thermostat, ignition switch, and hydraulic accumulator. Power is provided by a 4.9-liter DOHC V8 outfitted with quadruple Weber carburetors, and shifting is via a five-speed manual transmission. Showing 24k miles, it's listed now on BaT! The car rides on four-wheel independent suspension and is equipped with 15″ Campagnolo wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, and Citroën-sourced variable-assistance power steering. Additional features include a Euro-style transparent tail panel and bumpers, pop-up headlamps, power windows, and an optional Blaupunkt Berlin stereo system. Oldtimer Australia is delighted to offer for sale a 1979 Maserati Khamsin with a 4.9 litre engine and the desirable 5-speed manual gearbox. People in the know consider the Khamsin a well kept secret. They consider the Khamsin to be quite simply the most refined, satisfying, competent grand tourer of its day. It has better handling than its predecessor, the Ghibli, an almost perfect 50/50 weight balance per axle. It is very agile for its weight and very forgiving when the limit is reached. It is incredibly comfortable to drive, tracks arrow straight on the motorway at any speed and will be happy on the German Autobahn at 230 km/h all day with bursts to 270 km/h. Its top speed is only limited by the gearing. Today the odometer reads 29,763 miles which, based on the information on file, is most likely genuine. This car has been part of a static display since arriving in Australia back in 1999 and It will therefore require recommissioning. Unfortunately, the engine does not turn and it will need to be rebuilt. The positive is that this takes the guess work out of what may be required after sitting for all those years. Portfolio #MarcelloGandini, Italiaanse ster ontwerper (1938-2024). Gepassioneerd door mechanica sinds zijn kindertijd, was hij tot 1980 hoofdontwerper van #Bertone (als opvolger van #GiorgettoGiugiaro), toen hij er de voorkeur aan gaf zijn activiteit als freelancer voort te zetten. In light of the sorrowful news of the legendary Marcello Gandini passing, I thought i’d resurface these pictures of one of my favourite cars from him: The Maserati Khamsin, this particular one, belonging to my father. A car very close to me, having spent many many miles in it as a passenger. My earliest memory was driving from Munich to London (in one day), and me barely being able to look over the dashboard. It is such an awkwardly special automobile. Mostly everything is hydraulic Citroen mechanics, paired with the 4.9 V8 engine. 4 double weber carburetors make for an addictive induction noise. To top it off one shifts gears with a 5 speed dog-leg gearbox. Then you get out, and have these just as peculiar lines.
