Is there anything an Austin 7 can not do ?!. The Austin 7 is an economy car that was produced from 1923 until 1939 in the United Kingdomby Austin. It was nicknamed the "Baby Austin" and was at that time one of the most popular carsproduced for the British market and sold well abroad. Its effect on the British market was similar to that of the Model T Ford in the US, replacing most other British economy cars and cyclecarsof the early 1920s. Many Austin 7s were rebuilt as "specials" after the Second World War, including the first race car built by Bruce McLaren, and the first Lotus, the Mark I. Companies such as Speedex in Luton thrived in the late 1950s by producing race-proven bodies and engine parts for the Seven chassis. Such was the power of the Austin 7 name that the company re-used it for early versions of the A30 in 1951 and Mini in 1959. The small 747 cc sidevalve with an actual 10 hp output gave adequate performance. E C Gordon England, persuaded Sir Herbert to provide him with a racing 7, which resulted in six new class records at Brooklands, had built a special lightweight 2-seater body weighing just 20 lb (9.1 kg) and entered it in the 1100 cc class for the Junior Car Club 200 mile race at Brooklands in October 1923. There England finished in second place and during the race won another five class records. In Australia Arthur Waite won the 1928 100 Miles Road Race (later known as the Australian Grand Prix) driving an Austin 7. C E A did win the 1936 RAC Rally. Supercharged 1930 Austin 7 sports/racing special can still be seen racing around circuits and hillclimbs today. Just Mark & I at Oulton Park on Saturday in my 2nd race since 2022. We converted 76 PRT for road use last year but I got bored, so it now has a fresh HTP as well as road tax 😆... Anyway Rob entered me into Equipe GTS as a surprise on top of the Equipe Libre race I'd already entered. A lot to get turned around. Quali was my practice, we skipped lunch, started 16th/20 on the grid and finished 6th oa & 3rd/16 in class. 😊 Half an hour later we started 18th/25 oa 😆 in the Libre race and finished 12th at the end. Had a great race with Hugh & Steve. I beat my PB and got 2x nice class trophy mementos as well 👍 I want to say thanks to Rob & John @equipeclassicracing and David Yeoman for the great shot of my car on track. 1935 Frazer Nash 'Monoposto' Alfred Fane Peers Agabeg, aka A.F.P. Fane, was born on 11 November 1911 in India to Major A.A. Agabeg. Determined to race competitively, he ordered a Frazer Nash (chassis 2040) in 1932 and designed a two-seater body which coachbuilders Corsica built for him. The Agabeg family name changed to Alfred Fane Peer Fane. Friend of the owners of Frazer Nash Cars, which led to him to becoming a shareholder of the company in 1935. The company was known as AFN Ltd. by then. He also became a ‘Salesman and Demonstrator’, and unofficial works racing driver. June 1935, AFN Ltd. completed a single-seater for a customer using chassis 2155 (engine 7/121), sporting a 4-cylinder overhead camshaft Albert Gough 1499cc engine with twin Centric Superchargers and twin SU carburettors, the engine was unreliable after four starts and four engine failures. The factory bought it back for Fane to race it as a Works entry. A new 1500cc record was set at Brookland’s by Fane. Albert Gough worked on the engine and at Brooklands, Shelsley Walsh, Brighton and Southsea over the next three years and it invariably finished in the top three. Many say that a Gough-engined Frazer Nash is the purest form of the breed, the Gough single overhead cam engines were unreliable, they were underdeveloped due mainly to budget considerations. The factory claimed an output in excess of 150bhp in supercharged form. The Kurtis Kraft 500 G Kurtis Kraft was an American designer and builder of race cars. The company built midget cars, quartermidgets, sports cars, sprint cars, Bonneville cars, and USAC Championship cars. It was founded by Frank Kurtis when he built his own midget car chassis in the late 1930s The Kurtis Kraft 500B, 500C, 500F, and 500G, are a series of open-wheel race cars, designed, developed and built by Kurtis Kraft, for AAA and U.S.A.C. Indy car racing, between 1948 and 1960. Powered by an inline 4 Offenhauser engine 4179 cc | 255.0 cu in. | 4.2 L. The Offenhauser Racing Engine, frequently referred to as just the "Offy", was a 4.2 liter inline 4-cylinder DOHC engine, which has been used in various types of racing for over 90 years now. It was based on a 3-liter marine engine invented by Henry Miller in the 1920s, whose original design was inspired by Template:Duesenberg-ENG and Peugeot engines that Miller serviced in his shop. A racing version of the Miller engine first won at the Indianapolis 500 in 1922, powering Jimmy Murphy's Duesenberg. Miller also built 1.5 and 2 liter versions of the engine. Image two: An unfortunate 270 degree spin, on lap 5, following the exit from The Chicane. I really thought he had it under control and, following a 90 degree right turn, that he would carry on but no, and again I'm theorising, the car stalled. No pressing of the starter button here just old style get out and crank the car by hand … in this instance not successfully. 1970 Camaro buit by Jim Hall of Chaparral Racing and driven by him during the 1970 SCCA TRANS-AM racing season. This car is still raced in historic TRANS-AM racing to this day and is driven by Tomy Drissi. All the livery was done by myself. 1934 MG NA piloted by Peter Cundy @thevscc at Silverstone. This wonderful MG has always been used as a race car and was shipped to Australia in 1935. The MG N-type Magnette is a sports car that was produced by MG from October 1934 to 1936. The car was developed from the K-Type and L-Type but had a new chassis that broke away in design from the simple ladder type used on the earlier cars of the 1930s being wider at the rear than the front and with the body fitted to outriggers off the main frame. The engine was a further development of the 1271 cc 6-cylinder KD series overhead camshaftengine used in the K-type and originally used in the 1930 Wolseley Hornet. Modifications were made to the cylinder block and head and fitted with twin SU carburettors it produced 56 bhp (42 kW) at 5500 rpm, a near 25% improvement. Drive was to the rear wheels through a four-speed non-synchromesh gearbox. The car had a wheelbase of 96 inches (2439 mm) and a track of 45 inches (1143 mm). Semi elliptic leaf springs, wider and longer than those used on previous cars, were fitted all round and the body was mounted to the chassis using rubber pads. N-Type production was limited to approximately 700 cars from 1934 to 1936. Jim Clark’s former 1955 Jaguar D-Type racing car. The Jaguar D-Type was a sports racing car that was produced by Jaguar Cars Ltd. between 1954 and 1957. Designed specifically to win the Le Mans 24-hour race, it shared the straight-6 XK engine and many mechanical components with its C-Type predecessor. Its structure, however, was radically different, with innovative monocoque construction and slippery aerodynamics that integrated aviation technology, including in some examples a distinctive vertical stabiliser. The Jaguar D-Type, with its distinctive shape, was also the car that launched Jim Clark from amateur racer and into the mainstream of motorsport. Clark raced 20 times in the Jaguar winning 12 races. In the car, Clark became the first British racing driver to average over 100mph in a British sports car race at Full Sutton, Yorkshire in April 1958. A month later in May, he competed internationally for the first time at the Spa Grand Prix (for sports cars over 1500cc). Total production is thought by some to have totaled 71 D-Types, including 18 for factory teams and 53 for privateers (plus an additional 16 D-Types were converted into road-legal XKSS versions).
