TCM Diagnosis 🌱 Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) offers unique diagnostic methods that do not limit treatment to physical presentation or significant symptoms. Treating only the symptom is limited, and understanding the root cause is essential. TCM can be helpful for conditions that Western medicine struggles to address. If you are feeling stuck with your condition or concerned about the harmful effects of continuous medication or cortisone shots, consider trying Traditional Chinese Medicine. It may be the solution that your body needs. Book your next appointment by visiting the link in my bio!

Ask Coach Kyle Q: What all goes into an athlete's regular maintenance? A: For athletes, regular maintenance is crucial, and it all comes down to the ability to listen to your body and distinguish between good and bad pains and stresses. As with general health, it's important to make healthy proactive choices by paying attention to your body's signals. This is where an experienced coach can be invaluable. A significant part of training should be dedicated to assessing, developing, and maintaining adequate conditioning and biomechanics to support the demands of your sport. This means ensuring that functional range of motion, strength, stability, physique, and movement (both general and sport-specific) are all well-calibrated. At Hero Performance Health, we prioritize prevention over responding to injury by emphasizing conditioning and biomechanics. It's also essential to balance overuse and underuse and align movement biases. Many sports favor specific movements and disregard their countermovement, which can create imbalances that increase the likelihood of injury. In addition to conditioning and biomechanics, diet, sleep, and mindset are also crucial components of regular maintenance. In fact, diet and sleep are a form of conditioning that plays a significant role in priming physical condition through rebuild and repair. Finally, regular mindset maintenance is critical for getting in the zone, developing confidence and focus, and keeping practices safe by restricting unnecessary attempts and turns. With proper maintenance, injury can be largely mitigated. However, in sports, especially those with a competitive nature, there is always a chance of injury, both traumatic and gradual overuse types. Any pain that lasts more than two weeks should be evaluated by a medical professional.

Tuina: The Art of Manual Therapy in Traditional Chinese Medicine Tuina is a manual therapy approach derived from traditional Chinese medicine. The term "push-grasp" describes the practice's fundamental techniques, which target the physical body's muscular and fascial tension, tendon and ligament health, and internal organs' function. Tuina utilizes various techniques such as pressing, swinging, pushing, grasping, vibrating, traction, adjusting, and stretching, with the majority of these techniques falling under massage therapy. However, the last three techniques are typically associated with chiropractic and physiotherapy. Tuina is a highly developed practice that aims to help the body function at its best by releasing muscular tension and fascial adhesions, resetting muscle tone, and enhancing structural alignment. It can also regulate internal organ function, improve digestion, calm the mind, promote recovery, and increase performance. At HPH, we offer Tuina therapy as part of our treatments, subject to indications and consent.

Maximizing Functional Movement with Lower Core Optimization Today's functional movement tip focuses on the lower core, a vital segment that connects the upper and lower body. This area comprises the lumbar spine, pelvis, and hips, and is linked to the "Water Network," a traditional Chinese concept that includes essential bodily systems such as the urinary and reproductive systems, adrenals, and kidney qi - the source of human life. Acupoints in this region include the life-gate (mingmen), yin-convergence (huiyin), and elixir-field (dantian). To promote optimal health and functional movement, it's critical to ensure healthy, unobstructed qi-flow through the lower core. This starts by maintaining proper posture and stability in the relevant joints. Once achieved, you can begin practicing functional lower core patterns consciously through the kinetic chain. Finally, integrate these patterns unconsciously with qigong for optimal results. This final step "locks in" functional movement unconsciously and supports the entire Water Network, including the internal organs. Acupuncture and other manual therapies can also be helpful in achieving your functional movement goals. At Hero Performance Health, we are passionate about helping you optimize your lower core and overall health. If you're looking for more information, feel free to send me a DM – I would love to chat!

Understanding Nature through Taiji For those interested in delving into the world of nature, Taiji is a fundamental concept to comprehend. Taiji is a Daoist principle used to describe the vast expression of nature. It consists of a collection of cycles, each containing smaller cycles within them. The five basic movements or phases, represented by Wood, Fire, Metal, Water, and Earth, express each cycle's balance. The five movements are: Opening (represented by Wood)Rising (represented by Fire)Closing (represented by Metal)Sinking (represented by Water)Centering (represented by Earth) Each movement must balance the other four to sustain the cycle. The fifth movement, centering, is the most crucial as it maintains a dynamic balance and is responsible for shifting polarity. The key to innercise training or bodywork is to establish balance in the five movements within the posture. The body's posture paradoxically possesses both yin and yang qualities, with yang denoting what is visible and yin representing what is hidden. Every balanced posture contains an aspect of its opposite. For instance: When rising is visible, sinking is hiddenWhen sinking is visible, rising is hiddenWhen opening is visible, closing is hiddenWhen closing is visible, opening is hidden Centering unites yin and yang, allowing them to interrelate and be co-simultaneously.

It takes a HERO to be healthy and perform at our best!! Excellence is an attitude and in order for us to be excellent that attitude must stick! Health is not something that we just get and then once we’ve got it, we have it. This kind of thinking is more common than we’d think. It’s not like this! Think of it like showering, we’ve gotta do it every day!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Health is almost fully dependent upon lifestyle. If our lifestyle displays imbalances, it’s almost certain that these patterns of imbalance will eventually progress into more serious pain, disease and dysfunction. Yes, life is hard! Unfortunate external events, and aging will take their toll on us at times and knock us out of balance. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is why regular treatment by a professional of your choice must always be an ongoing thing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Treatment will NEVER replace a balanced lifestyle! It can only provide us with assistive BUMPS in the right direction. Sometimes we need this in order to get going again and back into a sustainable balance! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The HERO method focuses on LIFESTYLE by making it something that we take pride and fulfilment in each day. We aim to rekindle and maintain that same drive and passion that backs us as young athletes in sport so that we can carry that forward into an entire life of excellence. In sport we work to be healthy & strong, not for the sake of being healthy & strong, we instead do it for the sake of playing well and achieving our goals & dreams, and for those who are truly competitive we do it to BE THE GREATEST! In life after sport it’s just as important we look at being healthy & strong in the same way! In fact, some of the greatest fulfillment in our sport can come from the years after we’ve fulfilled our competitive peak. But one thing is for sure, we must always have a physical pursuit in life regardless of our age. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Never stop moving! Never stop playing!

Ask Coach Kyle Q: Is it difficult to juggle being both a doctor and coach? Not to mention juggling it all with a family of 4!? A: Haha! It's definitely not easy, but I don't care much for easy things. I like a good challenge! I'm definitely not perfect when it comes to managing it all - especially the family part as I'm out working so many hours. But I work hard to practice what I preach and know it’s best to set boundaries and live a balanced life. The funny thing about being a doctor and coach is that they are actually very similar. Although the scope of practice is different as a doctor, I always consider being a doctor as being a health coach. It’s relatively easy to know what we should do in order to get better, but I must also play the role of a coach in the way that I provide professional insights, education, a progressive breakdown, along with persistent motivation and accountability to get us to our goals. On the flipside as a coach I sometimes have a hard time with wanting to treat my athletes in the ways I would as a doctor and then having to recognize those boundaries. Although there are differences, I would argue that there's more similarities. Outside of the increased time commitment, being both a doctor and a coach definitely benefit one another. It’s this synergistic relationship that also gives me a couple playing fields to test my skills and ideas on, as well as an outlet for me to be even more active than I am as a doctor alone It’s good for my soul, it energizes me and fills my cup. I wouldn't have it any other way!

Lifestyle Strategy | Just because you can doesn’t mean you should! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Remember, it’s okay to say “no” to an event, partnership, activity, or project if it doesn’t align with your values and big picture vision. You might very well be able to do it, but will it fill your cup? Will it make you busier without adding to your productivity? Will it create problems and hassle down the road? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Being selective in your pursuits allows you to gain the leverage to seize control of your lifestyle and float comfortably upon the waves of life. If you feel like you’re drowning in the thick of it all, basing your decisions upon your most significant values might be what you need to practice more. What are you working towards? What are you wanting to be more disciplined with?

When I say, “Jump!” 👟 Will you say, “How high?” ⬆️ Jumping is a fundamental human movement among others like running, throwing and swinging. Each of these fundamental movements call upon the entire body to work together! It doesn’t take much to add jumping into your daily movement and play (assuming you don’t have any underlying injuries, aches or pains, or other red flags). 😀 Jumping develops our ability to coordinate and connect our lower body ⬇️ with the upper ⬆️. When movement is functional our jump becomes higher and more effective. There are high jumps, long jumps, single leg jumps, rebounds, frog jumps, lunge jumps, shape jumps, reverse long jumps, jumps onto heights, jumps off of heights, and the list goes on… Prerequisites: ✅ Good squat mechanics – full range, pain-free ✅ Good hip extension while maintaining a stable pelvis Basic things to focus on: 💥 Coordinating arm swing with explosive take-off 💥 An abrupt stop in the arm swing creating lift 💥 Full push through of the legs all the way into hip extension 💥 Neutral pelvis throughout 💥 Quiet, soft-footed landing Pick your favorites kind(s) and go play! Measure your progress or simply go play on natural features like rocks, hills and logs 😝 Tag me in your adventures exploring jumping and playing.

This area comprises the lumbar spine, pelvis, and hips, and is linked to the "Water Network," a traditional Chinese concept that includes essential bodily systems: the urinary and reproductive systems, adrenals, and kidney qi + essence - the source of human life.

Hello, everyone! I'm Dr. Kyle. As a doctor and gymnastics coach, I am here to help you live your best life! You can find me @teamcmstc or contact me directly for an appointment in my home clinic. What does it mean to live your best life? It's different for everyone, but there are some universal prerequisites: freedom from pain and injury, physical fitness, a strong social support system, emotional stability, and clear, focused thinking. My passion for health and wellness began when I was young, and I was inspired to become a ninja – brave, quick, agile, powerful, wise, and heroic. This drive led me to study men's gymnastics and martial arts, and to explore a wide range of subjects, including culture, history, mathematics, language, philosophy, religious studies, botany, nutrition, and the human body. Today, as a doctor of TCM, I see health and wellness through the same lens as sports performance. That's why I serve as both a doctor and a coach, helping elite men's gymnasts excel in their sport while also assisting athletes of all kinds to achieve their fitness and performance goals. So if you're looking to live your best life, let's work together to make it happen!

Let's Set SMART Fitness Goals! 🏋️‍♂️🎯 Do you know how to set goals? What's your fitness goal? Is it SMART? As a fitness coach, we need to know your goal before you join our team. Not just any goal, but a SMART one! S - Specific: Be clear about what you want to achieve. Instead of saying "I want to get fit," say "I want to build enough muscle that my arms hug the sleeves of my shirts." Now, that's specific! M - Measurable: Your goal must have a way to measure progress. Instead of saying "I want to lift weights," say "I want to deadlift my bodyweight comfortably for 10 reps." That's measurable! A - Achievable: Make sure your goal is realistically achievable. Instead of saying "I want to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger," say "I want to compete on stage as a bodybuilder." That's achievable with hard work! R - Relevant: Your goal must be relevant and helpful to you. Instead of saying "I want to do some exercise I saw online," say "I want to create a strategy that fits me and my lifestyle." That's relevant and helpful in the short and long term! T - Time-bound: Your goal must have a date or time frame. Instead of saying "I just want to go to the gym once a week until I see something happen," say "I want to compete on stage in 12 weeks." That gives a clear time frame! Setting SMART goals helps us understand exactly what we want to achieve. It shows the journey, starting points, finish line, and the best way to reach our destination. If you haven't already, note down your SMART fitness goals. This simple task can turn that little idea in the back of your head into something that improves your life and makes you proud. #SMARTgoals #FitnessJourney #GoalSetting #ClearGoals #MeasurableProgress #AchievableDreams #RelevantSuccess #TimeBoundAchievements #FitnessCoachTips #HealthyLiving #ProudAchievements #FitLife #WorkoutMotivation #GoalGetter #FitnessInspiration #BodybuildingGoals #LifestyleStrategy #GymGoals #SmartFitness #AchieveMore #FitnessChallenge

THE 5 MINUTE “MINI” HABIT ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The HEROmethod focuses on establishing habitual practices (aka habits) that align with our ultimate goals. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The problem is often what comes next… From here, we often don’t just impose playful practice; we instead tend to set extremely high expectations and performance demands. Suddenly the magic is lost. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But PLAY and practice do not need to demand a performance outcome! Read that last sentence again. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To become great at something requires a heavy accumulation of experience, yes, but that doesn’t only include “successful,” better-than-average practice, where we hit some new milestone. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ More often than not, we lose motivation or interest in our practice because of these high demands that loom over us and scare us before we even start the day. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you’re feeling stuck in maintaining a consistent practice in something you know deep down is meaningful to you, try implementing the 5-minute “mini” habit! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The 5-minute “mini” habit still allows building the momentum that comes from regular habitual practice. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s simple: 1️⃣ Set a 5-minute timer and immerse yourself in the PLAY of the practice. 2️⃣ Drop any performance demands and take on a playful mindset to live your passion for the course. 3️⃣ Be content with and find humour in your mistakes and any perceived setbacks! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This might mean dropping reps & sets instead of taking the pleasure to feel the bliss in your body freely moving and pushing through space when it comes to exercise. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The 5-minute “mini” habit sets no achievement goal, so all that remains is play. …and for only 5 minutes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We can do that every day!!! Try the 5-minute “mini” habit and let me know what you think???⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It takes a HERO to be healthy and perform at our best. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But!

I FIND MY WORDS DANCING IN THE REALM OF THE PASSIONATELY CURIOUS, spirited souls who heed the profound calls within them. A call that tugs at the strings of purpose, weaving desires for triumph in the realms of business, relationships and life itself. A symphony of aspirations that extends through the mind and spirit. These are the hearts that glimpse the facets of humanity, recognising that depth resides beyond the veneer of posts, stances, and fleeting conversations. In a world of snapshots and livestreams, they grasp that a soul's expanse cannot be contained within a social media scroll. Those who thirst for knowledge are like wanderers in an endless garden of learning. Hearts wide open, caring for the tapestry of lives they touch, yearning to paint their journey with hues of positivity. They embrace the mantle of responsibility for their fate, even when it inflicts its stings, for they know the dance of rising after each fall. A treasure of authenticity, they treasure me for who I am, what I stand for, and the whispers I share. In tandem, they cherish their own essence, the why of their being, and the melodies of their deeds. My narratives traverse a landscape where business, yoga, life, personal growth, and legacy flow like rivers. Through harsh landscapes, resilience intertwines heartache and the desire to do and be more. Not confined to a single theme, I traverse diverse realms. Fulfilment's fragrance, forgiveness's grace, the tapestry of gratitude and faith unfurl in my words, though not all at once. No singular path claims me; I am a tapestry of dreams. A vision, grand and colossal, steer my course. Hand in hand with agents of change, leaders bound to sculpt a new dawn, I yearn to witness empowered FitPros igniting the flames of empowerment in others. I beckon those who would understand and embrace my essence. I stand unapologetically here with a universe of aspirations woven into my being. Love me for it, or part ways, for my purpose is etched in the stars. A symphony of purpose guides me, and I, in turn, guide you, for together, we tread paths unknown, forging destiny's design. #lifestylestrategy #fitnesspro #groupfitness

Tuina // A Chinese term that literally translates as "push grasp" In the field of traditional Chinese medicine it broadly encompasses all forms of manual therapy. Tuina is divided into 8 categories: 1. Pressing 2. Swinging 3. Pushing 4. Grasping 5. Vibrating 6. Traction 7. Adjusting 8. Stretching. The majority of these techniques fall under what we know to be as massage, with the exception of the last 3 which we typically associate more with chiropractic and physiotherapy. Tuina is a highly developed practice that modifies the physical body allowing for it to function in its best way. It does this through releasing muscular tension and fascial adhesions, regulating tendon and ligament health, resetting muscle tone and the presence of ‘guarding', structural realignment of subluxations, regulating internal organ function, improving digestion, calming the mind, promoting recovery, and increasing performance. When indicated and with consent, Tuina therapy is included with all HPH treatments.

Ask Coach Kyle Q: What all goes into an athlete's regular maintenance? A: The most important piece to an athletes’ regular maintenance is having the fine-tuned ability to listen to the body and differentiate good and bad pains and stresses. Just like with general health, it is our job to listen and make healthy proactive choices. This all comes with experience and the guidance of an experienced coach. A portion of our training should always be dedicated to assessing, developing and maintaining adequate conditioning and biomechanics that support our sports demand. This means ensure that things like functional range of motion, strength, stability, physique and movement (sport-specific and general) are each well calibrated to handle our sports demand. This is large part of what we do at Hero Performance Health - prevention over response to injury. In addition to conditioning and biomechanics we must also balance overuse and underuse and align movement biases - many sports favour specific movements and disregard their countermovement. These sorts of imbalances greatly increase the likelihood of injury. The whole other side to regular maintenance includes, diet, sleep and mindset. In fact, diet and sleep are a form of conditioning. They play a huge role in priming the physical condition through rebuild and repair. Lastly, regular mindset maintenance means getting in the zone, developing a confidence and focus that keeps our practice safe and restricts the unnecessary amounts of turns and attempts that comes with impartial effort. If each of these things are accounted for and maintained well and often, then injury will be largely mitigated. However, with sport and particularly sports with a competitive nature, there always is the chance of injury, both traumatic and gradual overuse types. Any pains that have not resolved themselves in two weeks do warrant medical assessment and professional therapy.

Today’s Functional Movement Tip deals with the lower core. The most important segment of all. It is the bridge between the upper and lower body. The lower core consists of the lumbar spine, pelvis and hips. It is connected with the classical Chinese concept known as the ‘Water Network,’ which includes the urinary system, reproductive system, adrenals and the kidney qi, which is the source and motive force of human life: Yin! Acupoints in this region include the life-gate (mingmen), the yin-convergence (huiyin), and the elixir-field (dantian).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Optimizing healthy, open qi-flow through the lower core is essential to good health and functional movement. The first step is establishing the correct posture. To do this, we must ensure an adequate range of motion and stability through the lower core joints. From here, we can begin to consciously practice functional lower core patterns via the entire kinetic chain. To top it all off, we must also lock these patterns in unconsciously through integration with qigong. This final piece locks in functional movement unconsciously and energizes and supports the entire Water Network – internal organs included!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It can also be a beneficial addition to use the assistance of acupuncture and other manual therapies to achieve your functional movement goals. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hero Performance Health is passionate about helping you in all these ways! Looking for more info, send me a DM, I would love to chat!
