Oggi facciamo quattro chiacchiere sulle onnipresenti bacchette magiche 🙃 Artefatti così radicati nella cultura mondiale che ormai si danno per scontati; ma qual'è la loro storia? Ad oggi la bacchetta magica è un must di ogni opera fantasy e non, presente in libri, film, gdr, videogiochi, quadri, ecc. Sicuramente grazie alla saga di Harry Potter hanno raggiunto l'apice della popolarità moderna entrando a gamba tesa nella cultura pop, ma possiedono origini tanto antiche da essere difficoltoso tracciarne la storia. Ne abbiamo tracce nel Mazdeismo (Zoroastrismo) con il barsom (o baresman), un attrezzo rituale consistente in un fascio di rami di melograno o di tamerice utilizzato sin dalla preistoria, si credeva che questo stabilisse un contatto tra il mondo materiale e quello spirituale. Nell'antica cultura Romana, Greca ed Egizia il barsom comincia a prendere le fattezze delle bacchette che oggi conosciamo. Ai tempi dei faraoni ad esempio venivano lasciati molti oggetti personali nelle tombe, tra questi si trovano anche testi magici e bacchette, che sarebbero state utilizzate nella vita seguente. Sono innumerevoli le Religioni e i popoli che hanno contemplato l'uso di questi artefatti, e tutt'ora vengono utilizzati in svariate culture! This large-scale 16th century Japanese Nanban black and gold lacquer coffer is contemporary with Queen Elizabeth I and rare for its large size. Rectangular domed coffers of this type were made exclusively for the Western export market and traded mainly through Portuguese merchants, following their arrival in Japan in 1543. Highly valued at the time, they were often made for European royalty and aristocrats and of the three first lacquer pieces documented in Europe, two are chests of this type in Stockholm and Madrid. When it was made, the black lacquer, gold and mother of pearl botanic decoration would have glittered impressively in the evening candlelight. The Japanese & Korean Works of Art sale takes place on Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd May, with items still on view at our Old Sarum Galleries on Monday 20th May 10am-4pm. This is an elaborately ribbed and sculptured hand-polished white iridescent Turban Astraea. They are very hard to get in good condition. This one has two tiny imperfections (holes). It has a gorgeous, iconic sculptural shape and lustre. Iridescence (also known as goniochromism) is the phenomenon of certain surfaces that appear to gradually change colour as the angle of view or the angle of illumination changes. Examples of iridescence include soap bubbles, feathers, butterfly wings and seashell nacre, as well as certain minerals. 🖼 Mit einer sehenswerten Ausstellung kann das KunstKabinett im Kulturzentrum Badehaus, Alter Kurpark, aufwarten. Die Griffelkunst-Vereinigung zeigt dort in der diesjährigen Frühjahrsschau am Samstag, 11. Mai 2024, beeindruckende Arbeiten einer Reihe von engagierten Künstlern. Das breite Spektrum umfasst diesmal vor allem Lithografien, aber auch Foto-Radierungen, Fotos und Siebdrucke. 🎨 Die Griffelkunst-Vereinigung wurde 1925 von dem Hamburger Volksschullehrer Johannes Böse gegründet. Das Angebot der Edition setzt sich heute im Wesentlichen aus drei Bereichen zusammen: Historische Beispiele – etwa des späten 19. bis Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts – stehen neben grafischen Arbeiten der jüngsten Zeit. Als Ergänzung finden sich anspruchsvolle Beispiele der Fotografie. Ein Grundprinzip der Auswahl besteht dahin, die bundesweit 4.400 Griffelkunst-Mitglieder jeweils auch mit neuesten Tendenzen der Kunstentwicklung und anspruchsvollen Werken bekannt zu machen. 🎨 Vom 23. März bis zum 14. April 2024 zeigt die @sodenerkunstwerkstatt beeindruckende Papierkunstwerke von @miralaaf im KunstKabinett. Der vielfältige Umgang mit dem Material Papier steht im Mittelpunkt der neuen Ausstellung im KunstKabinett. Unter dem Titel „Bedruckt – Unbedruckt“ zeigt die Frankfurter Künstlerin Mira Laaf grafische 3D-Papier-, Schnipsel- und Legearbeiten, in denen sie verschiedene Papierarten verarbeitet. Sie verwendet dafür zum Teil geschredderte Drucksachen sowie bedruckte Papiere aus Zeitschriften und Farbpapiere, die sie neu organisiert und wie in der Malerei durch Farbe und Form in einem Bild aufbaut. „Durch meine beruflichen Erfahrungen als Grafikerin habe ich ein geschultes Auge für Proportionen sowie die Spannung von Flächen und Freiräume“, erklärt Mira Laaf. Bereits als Kind begeisterte sie sich für die Vielfalt der Farbpapiere, die sie im grafischen Atelier ihrer Eltern vorfand. Diplom-Designerin Mira Laaf, 1968 in Frankfurt geboren, hat ein Studium der Visuellen Kommunikation an der Hochschule in Offenbach am Main absolviert und ist seit 2000 selbständige Grafikdesignerin und Künstlerin. Seit 2023 ist sie Mitglied der Sodener Kunstwerkstatt und hat auch grafische Arbeiten für Ausstellungen der Stadt Bad Soden am Taunus umgesetzt. Die Ausstellung wird am 23. März 2024 um 15:00 Uhr mit einer Vernissage eröffnet. Bürgermeister Dr. Frank Blasch wird die Gäste begrüßen. Zu sehen ist die Ausstellung bis 14. From my Wunderkammer……Wunderkammer is literally translated from German as a ‘room of wonder’. In English it is usually referred to as a ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’. Many Wunderkammer originated in royal treasuries, where the crown jewels and items of regalia were housed with other items of value for safekeeping. However, the idea of a Wunderkammer was fully born in the 16th century as the royal courts of Europe became less peripatetic and as humanist philosophy spread. From my Wunderkammer……Wunderkammer is literally translated from German as a 'room of wonder'. In English it is usually referred to as a 'Cabinet of Curiosities'. Many Wunderkammer originated in royal treasuries, where the crown jewels and items of regalia were housed with other items of value for safekeeping. However, the idea of a Wunderkammer was fully born in the 16th century as the royal courts of Europe became less peripatetic and as humanist philosophy spread. Composition with three broken Nautilidae. In the course of assembling shell still lifes I have accidentally broken many treasured specimen shells. It is always extremely distressing but I can’t bear to part with them. I try to appreciate them in their imperfect state and so I thought I’d try another composition with these broken shells. Wabi-sabi is a Japanese philosophy I’ve attempted to incorporate in many of my images. Wabi-sabi is the view or thought of finding beauty in every aspect of imperfection in nature. It is about the aesthetic of things in existence, that are imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. It eliminates the Westernised concept of artificial beauty and idolising a state of perfection that is seemingly unachievable and unnatural. Most of you know that I enjoy composing still lifes with seashells and so it is today (pic #1). I find it very interesting to refer to historical works of art for inspiration. I’ve included some exquisite paintings of seashells, flowers and fruit by the impressive Dutch Golden Age still life master Balthasar van der Ast (1593–1657). Van der Ast specialised in still lifes of fruit and flowers but was perhaps best known for his remarkable shell still lifes. He introduced what was thought to be a new element in the form of shells that reflected the contemporary interest in collecting exotic objects. He is considered to be a pioneer in the genre of shell painting. His painting chronology is difficult to establish as he only signed his paintings between 1620 and 1628. Many remain undated. From my Wunderkammer……Wunderkammer is literally translated from German as a 'room of wonder'. In English it is usually referred to as a 'Cabinet of Curiosities'. Many Wunderkammer originated in royal treasuries, where the crown jewels and items of regalia were housed with other items of value for safekeeping. However, the idea of a Wunderkammer was fully born in the 16th century as the royal courts of Europe became less peripatetic and as humanist philosophy spread. It was no longer enough simply to show off one's wealth; every object should also enhance the virtues of the monarchs. In ‘Inscriptiones vel tituli theatre amplissimi’ (1565), Samuel Quiccheberg detailed the ideal formula for the Wunderkammer as including naturalia (items created by the earth and items drawn from nature), mirabilia (unusual natural phenomena), artificialia (items wrought by man), ethnographica (items from the wider world), scientifica (items that brought a great understanding of the universe) and artefacta (items relating to history). Cabinets of Curiosity ~16th Century Cabinets of Curiosities (German: Kunstkammer and Kunstkabinett), also known as cabinets of wonder and Wonder-Rooms (German: Wunderkammer), were collections of notable objects. Collections had preceded them, the classic cabinets of curiosities emerged in the sixteenth century. The term cabinet originally described a room rather than a piece of furniture. Modern terminology would categorize the objects included as belonging to natural history (sometimes faked), geology, ethnography, archaeology, religious or historical relics, works of art (including cabinet paintings), and antiquities.
