Trading a classic for a flop: the roles Val Kilmer and Keanu Reeves swapped Actors are constantly ships passing in the night, regularly circling the same roles and creating domino effects when the cards ultimately end up toppling in the other direction, although there’s no debate over who got the better end of the deal when Val Kilmer and Keanu Reeves traded places. @faroutmagazine They were both in-demand stars in the mid-1990s – and the latter remains one to this day – which inevitably had them on many of the same shortlists at around the same time. The Matrix is just one of several projects on which their names were bandied about in the same conversation, but Kilmer ended up lucking out and inadvertently saddling Reeves with a major box office bomb. When the opportunity arose to embody Chris Shiherlis in Michael Mann’s classic crime thriller Heat, Reeves was one of the first names under consideration. He was hotter than ever coming off the back of blockbuster hit Speed, but he declined the opportunity in favour of treading the boards in his native Canada to perform Shakespeare instead. That worked hugely in Kilmer’s favour, to say the least, with the movie going down as one of the best of his entire career and a huge missed opportunity for his counterpart. On the other hand, it’s hard to imagine the stoic, blank-faced, and boyish Reeves being the perfect fit for the character, so it would be fair to say everything worked out for the best. Prior to his banner 1995 that saw him appear in Heat and Batman Forever within months of each other, Kilmer was attached to play the title role in the adaptation of William Gibson’s cyberpunk short story Johnny Mnemonic. Model is a homage to Dolph Lundgren's character from the #johnnymnemonic movie. Body is from the original N1 Dogface. Head is from the Limited Edition Hoplite Achilles that came out for @corvusbelli's tenth anniversary. Sword is from the N3 Swiss Guard HMG, with added styrene pommel. Arms, hands, and beard are green stuff, with cyberimplants in the style of Joe 'Scarface' Turner made with styrene rod. I will upload some pics of the unpainted conversion in the next post. Thought I'd show some process stuff. I sketched this out sometime last year after watching Johnny Mnemonic for the first time (good movie👍) but didnt start inking it until a month or so ago. I draw pretty quickly but it takes me forever to ink anything. I dont plan anything out, just sorta wing it, so I end up doing layer upon layer of cross hatching until I get tired of the drawing or I overwork the thing. Kompanija Apple TV+ naručila je televizijsku seriju zasnovanu na romanu "Neuromanser" Vilijama Gibsona. Serija će imati deset epizoda, a tvorci su Grejem Roland i Dž. D. Dilard. Priča prati nekadašnjeg hakera pretvorenog u zavisnika povezanog sa softverom Henrija Kejsa dok pokušava da kroz svoj nelegalni posao u japanskom podzemlju, krećući se kroz obilje podataka, dođe do načina da preokrene tok supstance koja ga ometa da pređe u sajber-svet. "Izuzetno smo uzbuđeni što će ovaj čuveni roman doći na Apple TV+. Otkako smo postali prijatelji pre skoro 10 godina, tražili smo nešto oko čega bismo se udružili, pa je ovo neka vrsta ostvarenja sna", istakli su Roland i Dilard. "'Neuromanser' je inspirisao mnoga dela naučne fantastike i zato jedva čekamo da uvučemo televizijsku publiku u Gibsonov pravi sajberpank svet", dodali su. Debitantski roman Vilijama Gibsona, "Neuromanser" iz 1984. godine, jedno je od prvih i najcenjenijih dela sajberpanka. Roman je ovenčan brojnim priznanjima uključujući nagrade "Nebula", "Hugo" i "Filip K. Dik". Gibson je napisao još dva nastavka "Grof nula" (1986) i "Monalizin natpogon" (1988) kojima je učvrstio svoju reputaciju jednog od najvažnijih pisaca naučne fantastike s kraja 20. veka i "proroka" sajberpank podžanra. Do sada je bilo nekoliko pokušaja da se "Neuromanser" ekranizuje, ali oni nisu uspeli. Umesto toga, roman je poslužio kao inspiracija za brojne druge naučnofantastične filmove. Johnny Mnemonic (1995) 4.0 stars This film was a lot of fun, I loved all the Dystopic tech references. Keanu did great. This film was just good clean fun, I really enjoyed it. My favorite scene was anything with that wall of monitors, super dynamic and lovely. Keanu was great, I enjoyed his progression, from robot mannerisms to a a more free and easy character. I met He-Man, the Master of the Universe, the Legendary Fighter Drago, Dolph Lundgren ⚡️🥊 @dolphlundgren It was so great to speak to Dolph and hear him talk about his life journey from his childhood to his chemical engineering to leveling up in Hollywood and in becoming one of the biggest Action Superstars. I grew up watching lots of his action films from the very first Punisher film when there was no Marvel Film studio, Universal Soldier with Jean Claude Van Damme, Showdown in Little Tokyo with the late Brandon Lee, who was a rising action star himself before he passed away a few years later on The Crow. I asked Dolph how was it working with Brandon Lee, since they had such a great dynamic duo on film. Dolph said, “Brandon Lee was a cool, great actor and a huge star!” “It was really bad what happened to him.” Another few films we enjoyed talking about that Dolph loved shooting was, the high octane alien sci-fi classic, I Come in Peace and the cyperpunk film, Johnny Mnemonic with Keanu Reeves. He enjoyed coming up with the Jesus-like character and had fun fighting Keanu. Everybody’s life has some mythical quality. You struggle against obstacles, you fight to get to a higher level and there are great loves. With an action film it’s just more apparent.
