First UK group club cycling training camp over the bank holiday and absolutely loved it 🚲⛰️🎯📈😆. . Looking for a new place to explore new climbs and train I can definitely recommend Mid Wales! . Realization ✨🌱 turns out I loved exploring new UK climbs with cycling peeps, eating delicious food and had so much fun catching up with some of my cycling mates old and new..I laugh a lot anyway but haven’t laughed so much in ages.🤣 Was amazing to be around adventurous women riders. Learned tonnes about all kind of cycling world adventures, mechanical stuff and even stuff about geology too haha 😄 . Not gonna lie was abit nervous beforehand, with it being my first proper UK club group camp about whether would be fit enough, the climbs, intensity, length of rides etc but luckily Mallorca and year round training meant must have helped and completed all the training rides fine (phew). The hilliest day 1 pictured was 81 miles, 1800+ metres of elevation and even got told I was ‘half wheeler of weekend’ for pushing the pace up the climbs this day after did my photography and video bits at the start of the rides. 🙈 Some climbs were 14% and there’s not much flat in mid Wales I learned so legs were abit battered by the end of the whole trip.. in a good way though paha 😅🤣. . .Didn’t take many photos, took the photos and vids not in them. I don’t often post Strava pics but here’s day 1 and highly recommend this training route. “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you are right” No idea who said this, but it’s been my mantra a bit since getting back on the bike with the intention of being able to ride like I used to. Two years is a bloody long time to be injured. But patience, perseverance, some great friends and family who do nothing but believe in you and cake courtesy of @solide.cafe get you back in the end. Sunday 19th May: the Wightlink-Island Renewables Cat 2, 3 & 4 Road Race. . NAUT members Michael Hoare, Rollo Dixon & Casey Byrne (riding for Forge London CC) all lined-up to take on the race, held on a course around the south-west of the island & including a stretch of the Military Road, a run through the villages and a hotly anticipated finish line up above Freshwater Bay. . The neutral roll-out headed through Freshwater (from the West Wight Sports Centre), up over the finish line, over Afton & down past Compton. A fantastic spectacle, with 80 riders following the chain of NEG motorbikes and lead cars, followed by the medical team and 'broom wagon'. . The race started with a bang. The pace surging and relenting as riders attacked, with a breakaway attempt forming and swiftly being brought back. This ebb-and-flow was only accentuated further by the rolling nature of the course, with the effort jumping for each uphill section. . The race turned off the Military Road at Chale, then accelerated again up Emmets Hill. The bunch was flying! Unfortunately, shortly after the race turned towards Kingston, a crash brought the race to a halt & it had to be abandoned. Luckily, the NAUT riders managed to avoid the incident, but it was an anti-climax none-the-less. . It was a great shame to see the race abandoned on the first lap. We really appreciate all of the work put in to make the road race happen, and it was fantastic to see so many roadside supporters out in force. . Thank you very to the organisers, @wightlinkwightmountainrt (especially Julie & Jerry), to the BC Commisaires & NEG, all of the volunteers and marshalls, medics, riders and supporters. Wishing all the injured riders a speedy recovery. . More crazy weather today, but we managed to get an awesome ride in. 3/4 of the famous Sellaronda route, finishing with a hearty meal in Arraba to get us back to something resembling normal body temperatures. No trip to Taiwan is complete without a climbing day.
