Riproponiamo un altro bellissimo scatto di Tano d'Amico. Il fotografo riuscì a fissare per sempre l'immagine delle miniere amiatine negli ultimi anni della loro attività. Questo scatto raffigura la Torre dell'Orologio della Miniera di Abbadia San Salvatore, qualche anno dopo il suo abbandono. La struttura venne creata alla fine dell'800 e ospitava gli uffici tecnici dove lavoravano gli ingegneri minerari. Già a partire dal secondo dopoguerra la struttura cadde in un progressivo disuso e gli uffici furono spostati in un'altra struttura vicina al Pozzo Garibaldi. Event Space Old Engine Shed, Sinai Landschaftsarchitekten, Dillingen an der Saar, #Germany, 2017 . The site of the former turntable forms the core of a new urban field. The dimensions of the former turntable are outlined using different types of paving slabs and stones and corten steel sheets. This generous space is open to a large number of possible uses - for outside seating or catering from the restaurant, for open air concerts, markets and fairs, or just for meeting up or playing. Seating steps follow the former radius, and grass moulds, together with a lawn and trees, cushion off the seating area from the adjacent parking lot. Cefn Coed upcast shaft. Slide right -> for another view. The first photo was taken for my typology, so is maybe not the most interesting photograph in isolation but the hillside in the background does give a little bit of context. I took the other one as a backup but it doesn't really work as well as I was stood at the same level and as I physically couldn't stand any further away, I had to use a superwide lens and look up, hence the weird looking chimney behind. 5/2/24 - Chicago - Thursday morning I was fortunate to accompany a group to the shores of the Calumet River, under the Skyway Bridge, on the site of the proposed 100th Street Access Project. UIC Great Cities, in collaboration with local organizations and residents, is working to create a public space on the west bank of the river, just north of 100th Street, in an underused area of gas and electrical utility facilities. At present there are almost no safe spaces on the river for the public to enjoy its fascinating industrial activity. This visit was sanctioned by Peoples Gas who are cooperating in the initiative. We were able to get right down to the water line, just in time to catch the freighter Whitefish Bay as it backed its way out towards Lake Michigan, shepherded by a brace of hard working tugboats. The spot would be a wonderful vantage point to enjoy the boats and bridges and trains, and even some geese, which daily work on Chicago's busiest waterway. (We also got a close up look at the horrible amount of "fly dumping" along the train tracks just outside of the site's fence line.) Search "100th Street Calumet River Project" for more information on the proposal, and its intention to help better connect the Calumet River to the southeast side communities which border it, and the city in general.
