5/24/24 Hopkins Mountain Friday was perfection and it was such a beautiful day to introduce a couple of friends to this hike! I will never get sick of this mountain 😍. Definitely want to come back in Fall and Winter—gotta catch it in all the seasons after all 😂. This is 100% one of my favorite hikes and summit view. I also love the fact that if I were to zoom in straight across from here I’d basically be at Indian Head, another favorite 😍, and enjoying the close up/immersive view of the valley and lake from there. But being back at Hopkins I can enjoy the beauty of those mountains from a distance in a more complete picture type of way. I just love Keene Valley and I can’t wait to explore more of the peaks! 5/6/24 Haystack Mountain via Jackrabbit Trail Had a nice morning hiking up Haystack Mountain this past Monday! This trail is pretty easy, with a gradual incline up the Jackrabbit trail and then slightly more incline once you hit the trail for Haystack. There were some super muddy sections on the Jackrabbit trail since it had rained the previous day, but nothing you couldn’t skirt around and Haystack itself was in excellent shape. This is a great Spring hike in my opinion. A nice way to stretch your legs with a bit more mileage while staying at lower elevations. And the view is pretty nice too. (I enjoyed it way more in summer with the leaves on the trees though 😜.) 4/25/24 11-12 mile loop visiting some of the best places in the Adirondacks (in my very humble opinion lol) this past Thursday! We took the Lake Road to Gill Brook trail where we enjoyed a plethora of beautiful waterfalls of varying sizes on our way up to Indian Head (I absolutely LOVE this trail). Had the summit to ourselves and stopped for lunch to enjoy the beautiful clear views for a nice long break. I say this every time I go, but Spring might be my new favorite Indian Head experience! The lake water was such a gorgeous shade of blue 😍 plus those vibrant pops of green coming up here and there… amazing! Next we traveled to Rainbow Falls which is always a highlight! The rocks were slippery the closer we got but we managed to sneak around and snagged front row seats. Another nice break stop for our day. After that we made our way to Beaver Meadow Falls via the West River Trail. Wow, this trail is so cool!!! Another new favorite to add to the books! And while Rainbow Falls is absolutely stunning and magnificent I really enjoy Beaver Meadow Falls so much! The pool at the base and the picture perfect location is 👌🏻. From here we continued on in the woods with the West River Trail. We couldn’t get over how peaceful and varied the trail is! Such a delight! But once we reached the Canyon Bridge we definitely were ready to get out of the woods and back to the Lake Road 😂. This was one of those days where you just spend hours in the woods with sunshine the whole time and not a care in the world. It was so refreshing! And I’m so happy that I got to share this adventure with my hiking bestie! 4/17/24 Had a fun day out at the VIC today! I absolutely love coming here and bringing new-to-hiking friends. It’s a great way to get a taste of the Adirondacks with some beautifully groomed trails. I especially like coming here in the Spring when mountain trails can be a total mess. And while we definitely encountered some muddy spots it was nothing crazy. Sooo much drier than I anticipated! We did the Heron Marsh trail, Boreal Life trail, and were enjoying the day so much that we popped over to the Black Pond loop off Keese Mills Rd. It was here that we got to witness a bunch of turtles sunning themselves on logs! They were so cute! Tower Tuesday! Belfry Fire Tower Had a fun day exploring some easy, low elevation destinations last Friday. It was nice to do some stuff that my mom would enjoy, leaving her wanting to hike some more in the future! One of our stops was to Belfry Fire Tower. This is an easy, quick hike. The fire tower itself has 7 flights of stairs, but the view from the top is definitely worth it. Nice 360° views, different from what you usually get in the High Peaks areas. I haven’t been to this tower yet and this was my mom’s first ever so it was a success all around! We had the tower to ourselves and there was a picnic table at the base where we enjoyed a nice lunch with the warm sun beating down on us. Since this is such a short hike and if you’re traveling from a long distance, I’d recommend pairing it with some other stops as well. 3/1/24 Fun solo adventure to kick off March! I wasn’t sure what to expect as far as trail conditions went but it was great! A nice bit of powder over hard packed base, the perfect amount to make snowshoes the smart choice and a very enjoyable trail walk. And it was definitely a fair amount of trail walking 😂. I took the new trail up Lyon Mountain, about 3 1/2ish miles one way, slowly winding up the mountain. It’s a super pleasant hike with a TON of switchbacks and nice mild gradient. Didn’t get many views unfortunately but I did complete one of the hiking challenges I’ve been trying to finish so SUCCESS! I love visiting fire towers so that was a nice bonus as well. Best part? The trail is only about 40 minutes or so from my house! One of the closest to me 😂. 2/15/24 Return to Jay! AKA my mountain nemesis 😂. It was a beautiful day to be out with nice clear views, warm sunshine, and barely any wind! I was having a rough time on this hike, like any time I visit Jay Mountain apparently 🤣, but my hiking partners were amazingly patient and supportive the whole trip. We had a lot of fun! I didn’t quite finish the ridge, cutting out right before that last summit, but I got really close and I was glad the guys were able to finish! 2/6/24 Cascade Mountain First off, a HUGE congrats to @adkhappyhiker for her #2/46!!! I know we both find winter hiking to be a harder experience in general, so the fact that you wanted to tackle Cascade is the best! And you got me to level up my winter hiking game too! 😂 Yesterday was one of the most perfect days I’ve ever hiked on. Brisk start up temps that transitioned to that sweet spot for climbing, amazing blue skies and sunshine, sparkling snow and frost, near perfect trail conditions with barely any wind at the summit! This trail was an absolute delight and coming through that last stretch to the summit was a truly magical experience 😍. It’s a winter wonderland up there and I’m glad we pushed for a higher elevation hike to enjoy it! I love warm weather hiking and I adored this hike when I had done it before but there is something extra special about going in winter and being surrounded by snow ❄️. Cascade is the most beautiful in winter (in my opinion lol). Words can’t do this trip justice and the pictures, only a fraction, but they’re still stunning and I will cherish the memories for a long while to come! 2/2/24 After our trip to Roostercomb, we decided to head over to Roaring Brook Falls for a little add on hike and I’m SO glad we did! Another gorgeous half frozen waterfall for my 2023/2024 winter experience 😍. I can’t get enough of these! I think the base of the falls is superior in winter for sure. You can get so close! I just love how the ice is twisted in the way that the water is flowing. The top of the falls was awesome too, although I do prefer this part in its thawed out state 😂. But we also got some unobstructed views which I was so happy about! So even though it was a gloomy day, the trail experience was 10/10! Can’t say I’m not 110% over the top happy about sunshine for the next few days though! 2/2/24 It was gray and cloudy, no summit views and at times rather snowy but we had a marvelous day out! This was my third time hiking Roostercomb so I wasn’t overly disappointed in not getting a view… even if I WAS very much looking forward to seeing it in all its winter glory. The moody fog was beautiful and the summit itself was a winter wonderland. It made me appreciate how cool the trees looked with this particular backdrop, nothing to distract from their splendor. But the best feeling was just being out again on the trails. Even when I’m tired and don’t want to leave my nice warm house, it makes everything worth the effort! There’s nothing quite like nature to boost your spirits! We were very fortunate to summit #bigslide only seconds after the storm clouds cleared enough to be able to snag this photo of the Wolf Jaw Range. The powerful sub-zero wind gusts coming in from the North allowed only a brief stay out in the open. Then the next snowsquall arrived only a few minutes after we had began to make our way back down. 1/5/24 Hurricane Mountain First trail of 2024 yesterday 😍. It was COLD but we had such a fun time! Pretty sure I’m only ever going to take the Southern approach trail to Hurricane from now on (I’ve done the Northern approach from Crow’s Clearing previously). Really enjoyed this one! Beautiful walk in the woods, super gradual incline. Loved it! The summit was super windy but the fire tower was INSANE. Wow! Definitely didn’t stay up there for very long. It totally took your breath away. Sadly my phone died… again 🤦🏻♀️ and it refused to charge so I only got a very few shots. But it was moody gorgeous goodness 😍. Tower Tuesday! Owl’s Head Mountain Trail Sargent Ponds Wild Forest I wasn’t particularly enjoying the gloomy, damp weather yesterday (somehow this seemed colder than the frigid days!) but it was nice to be outside regardless and the company was great 😁. Loved catching another fire tower at the end of the year too! And while I wasn’t as big of a fan of the views from this particular area, it was nice to try somewhere new and it WAS still very pretty. Especially the really cool cloud coverage in the distance. That long stretch of flat trail seemed to never end on the way out though 🤣. 12/22/23 Loon Lake Mountain I really wanted to fit this hike in over the summer but it never quite worked out and I’ve gotta say that I’m glad it didn’t! I absolutely LOVED seeing this in winter 😍. Loon Lake Mountain totally surprised me with these views! Even if we couldn’t go up the fire tower and it was SUPER FRIGID. Probably the coldest I’ve ever ventured out on a trail because yes, I am a total baby when it comes to the cold 😂. My lungs were having a good day though so that’s super encouraging 😁. Perhaps they’ll start to acclimate better lol. Great experience and even better views! This is such a gorgeous area 😍. And extra points for this being one of the “closer” hikes to travel to 😂. Definitely the earliest I’ve ever gotten back from a 6ish mile hike lol. 12/15/23 Flume Knob I think this trail was one of the first I added to AllTrails when I started hiking a couple of years ago and I’m very happy to say that I can now cross it off my list! A nice change of pace, slightly shorter than a lot of the trails I’ve been doing lately plus different views. I always enjoy coming to Wilmington! It’s one of my favorite places. And the Flume Trail System is really great! I definitely want to come back here for snowshoeing on some of the other trails. This was a nice little day trip! Side note: I was completely obsessed with the amazing cloud coverage that day! Plus some lovely bit of sunshine 😎☀️ And we can’t forget about the gorgeous AuSable Flume Falls!!! Indian Head When I saw that it was forecasted to be overcast and most likely rainy the day we planned to go to Indian Head I was a bit disappointed… (my first trip was practically perfect with warm temps, sunshine, and blue skies 😍. It would be hard to top that!) but wow, this was the BEST type of overcast. It may be my FAVORITE view of the area thus far! Absolutely gorgeous. The snowy tips on the mountains, frozen lake, and some low clouds made it feel so magical! I wouldn’t trade this day for anything! This place will never get old 😍. And I’m determined to see it in every season! A once a year trip at the very least. 11/20/23 Return to Giant! My first trip two months ago was a bit disappointing because of the wildfire smoke 😕. I knew I needed to come back for those views though, and I DID want to come back sooner rather than later, but I didn’t actually expect to get to it this year. But then I decided to chase a bluebird day and attempt… Rocky Peak Ridge. JUST Rocky Peak Ridge 🤣. But you’ve gotta listen to your body and the conditions around you (that cold air was killing my lungs) so while plan A wasn’t going to work out, plan B became the new goal! Giant was calling me back and I was oh so satisfied! What a marvelous day yesterday! 😍 Minus the cold… and the ice… no adventure is ever truly perfect 🤣. But the views absolutely were. And now I feel like I have the best Giant experience between both days I’ve been. Can’t ask for more than that! 11/16/23 Big Crow & Nun-Da-Ga-O Ridge Loop Had such a fun day checking out this hidden gem! It’s a pretty long loop with beautiful views and varying terrain. It genuinely felt like you would enter a new world and different season with each leg of the journey. A lot of the time the trail is a very narrow foot path and would be hard to stay on track without some kind of map, which I’m glad I downloaded ahead of time. But there were some wonderful footprints to follow this time around which helped tremendously. Thank you kind person who recently ventured out on this trail 😜😂 lol. The best part of the day was the constant sunshine! IT. FELT. SO. GOOD. Especially after so many gloomy days. Hitting a bluebird day was extra special!
