We are pleased to offer a wide ranging sports curriculum to give all our girls an opportunity to discover a sport they can enjoy. It is well researched that girls in a girls school continue to play sports into their teenage years and beyond, and we work hard to create an environment where the girls can develop an enjoyment in sport as part of a healthy lifestyle. Girls in a girls’ school are able to embrace a positive attitude to sports without experiencing the main barriers to girls’ participation in sports. According to a report from the Women and Equalities Committee, girls drop out from PE for many reasons including ‘during puberty, anxieties associated with PE sports kit and periods’. Other reasons girls stop sport include feelings of self-awareness, body image concerns and feeling awkward in front of boys. At Stormont we offer girls the opportunity to play a wide range of sports including netball, hockey, football, cricket, gymnastics, athletics and many more. We give the girls opportunities to represent the school in a wide range of competitions, or in matches between schools.
