I used to HATE breakfast. And look where that got me. Clearly, what I did before embarking on my own journey to health didn't work. It was time to make changes. I was, and still am, 100% committed to success. For the past 8 years, I have started every day with a protein ball within 20-30 minutes of waking. Why? It's simple. It actually improved my weight loss and helps to keep me at a healthy weight now by revving up my metabolism. Need some proof? Dr. Carolyn Coker Ross, MD, MPH, author of The Binge Eating and Compulsive Overeating Workbook, says: "Do not skip meals, especially breakfast. Eating early and frequently throughout the day stimulates your body's "engine" to burn calories. In the beginning, as your body adjusts to eating regularly, you may experience a slight weight gain. This is because your body is used to holding onto the calories it gets when you feast in order to prepare for the fast it knows is coming. With time, eating regularly will boost your metabolism and your weight will decrease to a healthy level." So now, with this habit, I am actually hungry for BREAKFAST about 2 hours after my protein ball. This may be a bit rough for you to wrap your head around right now, especially since you are taking a drug to decrease your desire for food. But HUNGER is a good thing. It's VERY different from APPETITE, which I'll be posting about soon! So, how about a challenge?
