Some closer look at second generation tests. Two of the four samples. The gooey like look of glass coming through few of the openings has a really nice feel. I do wonder how far I could push this? With slightly bigger opening, maybe a little bit more glass stacked as well...? Though now I really need figure out how to support it. I rarely get the opportunity to visit the @nationalglasscentre these days, but stopped by on my way back from a site visit yesterday. It is a place very dear to my heart, having studied there for my MA in Architectural Glass in 2005 under the wonderful tutelage of @kevinpetrieart now Head of Faculty. It would be amazing to see it restored to its former glory as it has always been a hotbed of creative energy on the banks of the Wear with incredible facilities like @ngc_waterjet . Today's inspiration comes from the big boy glass kiln maintenance. My colleague was scraping away to clear all this beautiful "mess" out he didn't even see the beauty anymore. But just look at that. Hundreds, thousands of times of opening and closing the kiln door, scooping liquid glass from a ceramic pot onto a metal pipe, dropping it over the edges and splashing on the walls (I don't know if this is really what happens in there, but to me there seemed evidence of intense action, almost combat)... all this results in the most beautiful, sharp, glistening, colourful, scarred landscapes that you just want to cut out with a power grinder and hang on your walls. Some of this stuff is between the two layers of the big door that doesn't get dismantled and cleaned and repaired that often. So all this beauty is hidden away most of the time. But today, all was wide open, bare to the bone, with all those internal bleedings exposed and I just couldn't get my eyes off it! So here's a little glimpse for you, for those who'll maybe never get to see the insides of a 25kW glass kiln that for 11 months of the year keeps the glass in liquid honey form 24/7 at 1160°C.
