Did you know all of these? In type 1 diabetes, antibodies primarily target and attack the beta cells in the pancreas. These beta cells are responsible for producing insulin (point 1), and their destruction by antibodies leads to a decrease or absence of insulin production, resulting in high blood sugar levels. Usually the remaining functions still work. Our pancreas isn’t dead or useless, just partly broken. Type 3c diabetes, also known as pancreatogenic diabetes, is a form of diabetes that occurs as a result of damage to the pancreas. This damage can be caused by conditions such as pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, cystic fibrosis (CFRD), or hemochromatosis. In type 3c diabetes, both insulin and digestive enzyme production can be affected due to the damage to the pancreatic tissue, leading to difficulties in blood sugar regulation and digestion. If the pancreas has been completely removed, a person will develop a condition known as total pancreatectomy diabetes. In this case, there will be a complete absence of insulin production, as well as a lack of digestive enzymes essential for proper digestion. First year coaching a team and I've been privileged to have Gracie as a player. Today was our U7s trophy presentation and I'm so proud of each and every one of my players - at 6/7 years of age and putting their heart and soul into every match. Gracie won the parents player of the year award and she was so surprised! Just goes to show diabetes isn't stopping her do anything she wants to do and she's just one of the players! Day 6 - @claphamchasers @clublasanta week Big climb day up Tabayesco! 1, 3-6) Big day out on the bikes climbing Tabayesco. G-Jess & the Boys! Big 10km climb with close to 600m of vertical. Really good day out. Terrible weather to start but it improved as the day went on. We stopped for some tapas on the way back. 89.7km, 1312m elevation, 22.7km/h. 2) Breakfast. 7) Banana split from the pool bar once we got back from the big ride! I started this trip as a runner and I go back with people telling me I need to go on club rides back in London....really hope my calf improves soon and I can run again. Day 5 - @claphamchasers @clublasanta week Bit light on content today! 2) Breakfast 3) I've been promoted in the club cycling world! I've gone from G-cake and G-social to now going on rides with G-2 social! Unsurprisingly this was the fastest ride I've done this week. Wind slightly lower today which helped but overall weather still pretty poor. I even got some compliments about how some G-2 members thought I'd be a terrible cyclist but I actually wasn't that bad! Different round trip to Jonniebakes today. I had the items in the photo to keep up my horrendous diet since my running retirement! 46.39km, 625m elevation. 24.9km/h. 4) Delightful lunch with @eddie.rolls in the El Lago restaurant which is supposedly the top one in the club. This was the La Santa burger with sweet potato fries. 1) Club Swim Olympics. A variety of swimming events put on. I did not take part in this but supported. I could have taken part but it was freezing cold, raining and my swimming is terrible I wouldn't have been a benefit to any team! Looked good fun. 5-6) Me taking on the profiterole challenge in the buffet restaurant. I was made aware that English National XC champion and sub-14 5k guy @james_kingston22 had eaten 68 in 30mins when @tonbridgeac came out here training. The only thing I could possibly beat him at would be this challenge so I took it on and managed 69 in 28mins. The last 10-15 were very difficult but I had great support around me urging me on! That was my dinner for this evening! Day 2 - @claphamchasers @clublasanta week Another superb day, even though I'm almost at the stage of retiring from competitive running now I'm still having a great time. 1-4) The main event of the day, the club mini triathlon. I took part in the mixed relay with ex-GB swimmer @sarahforbessmith doing the 400m swim leg and very highly regarded cyclist @jason.zha0 on the bike! I did the 3km run leg and was given the baton in second place and that's where we finished. For a point I thought I was making progress on first after a 3.02 first km but I was never within striking distance and the run was a massive regression! We finished second but besides that amazing to watch everybody else across the different events, some superb performances. 5-6) Lunch. After a very small breakfast because of the tri I went to the buffet for lunch and once again the dessert section got the better of me. 7) Ultimate Abs class. Another of the resort classes. My abs have been literally eaten alive by the dessert counter these last few days so felt it necessary to attend. After this I tried 40mins easy along the west coast of the island but I aborted on 30mins. My calf is no good and it's got to the point again where it's too painful to run. 8) Dinner. I had a healthy dinner and only had one cake from the dessert table. For the first time this trip I didnt let the dessert table beat me. 9) The iconic resort Green Team show. Family entertainment at it's finest! The Green Team run all the activities around the resort and are essentially young Danes wanting some work in warmer climes! 10) Line dancing class at 11pm at night. I'm another injured, washed up runner so trying my hand at different things. National Clinical Programme Diabetes webinar launch 10th May 2024 with updated guidelines for adults with type 1 diabetes and the integrated model of care for type 2 diabetes. As a newbie & late comer to the large & varied type 2 working group as a carer/family member rep, it gives an insight into the large volume of work behind the scenes. Called upon last min to speak during the live from dual perspective - as a person with type 1 diabetes and as a carer to my late father who had type 2 diabetes and the role of advocacy and collaboration between multi-stakeholders. Part of my double grief journey is learning to say yes to things I’d have said no to in the past. Public speaking would have been one of them 🫣 I know my parents (RIP) would be super proud, as it was through their stories that I really found my voice and speaking up for others. This was my take home message to the diabetes community - don’t be afraid to use your voice. We all have a unique sound and message to tell 🗣️💙🩵 Didn’t get to take much photos. Jess was diagnosed with type 1 at age 14 and since then has overcome many challenges living with type 1 and playing sports as a semi-professional netballer in the Netball Super League. Type 1 Diabetes and Body Image! 9 days until my 11th year Diaversary! On 10th of May it will be my 11 year anniversary of living with Type 1 Diabetes! Every day until then I will be posting some content relating to Type 1 Diabetes. Living with Type 1 Diabetes comes with its own set of challenges, one of which often goes unspoken: the impact on our body image and our relationship with food. From constantly wearing diabetes technology to managing blood sugar levels, it's a 24/7 gig that can take a toll on how we see ourselves. Those devices, whether it's an insulin pump or a continuous glucose monitor, yes they are tools to manage our health, but they also allow us to live our best lives easier. Although it can be different, I say let’s rock our devices, because they are a part of what makes us unique. Now, let's talk about food. It's not just fuel; it's often seen as the enemy when you have T1D. The constant carb counting, insulin dosing, and fear of highs and lows can create a complicated relationship with what should be a source of joy and nourishment. But here's the truth: food is not the enemy, and neither are you. It's about finding balance, listening to your body, and giving yourself grace. So to my fellow diabetics navigating the complexities of T1D and body image: You are not alone. Your journey is valid, your struggles are real, but so is your strength. Let's lift each other up, celebrate our victories, and remind ourselves that we are more than just our diagnoses. 💙 #type1diabetes #bodyimage #gbdoc
