Friday evening was our official 2024 Annual General Meeting. And being our 60th Anniversary Year, it was a special one! Air conditioning has been on since 8am this morning. 32° by 10am forecast & I want the house comfortable all day. Up & out by 6am for a walk with Smudge before the heat set in. Watered the pots & the rose garden out back before having breakfast. Husbands gone off to Nabiac with a fellow to look at a job he wants him to do. I’ve battened down the hatches & won’t be moving for the duration. Got a better photo of the island bed in the front yard a couple of blocks away this morning. Shows clearly the symmetrical layout of the planting with the cycad the central feature. The agapanthus is making a show either end & is one of the newer hybrids with blue & white flowers. Could be the variety Fireworks which has wonderful bicolour blue & white florets. Dwarf blue agapanthus underlies these beauties at one end. The lemon daylilies were at my lunch venue yesterday to celebrate the Hallidays Point Garden Club Christmas Party. The food was absolutely first rate with platters of antipasto & hot nibbles plus an array of wonderful salads with chicken & ham. Fruit salad my choice for desert. This was held at the private home of a member at the Tallwoods Estate near Diamond Beach & Hallidays Point. A couple of roses in my garden & a video of a boat on the Manning River. 🪴 Today I had the pleasure of attending the garden clubs of Australia - Christmas friendship day hosted by Wayne and Fiona at their home showcasing their beautiful garden in the Bonny hills area. Garden clubs gathered from as far north as Coffs Harbour down to Gloucester and everywhere in between. Garden clubs meet regularly all over Australia. It’s a great way to meet new people and interact over a common interest. There is a lot of evidence, Some scientific, (most anecdotal) that gardeners can live up to 14 years longer than non gardeners! There is a garden club near you, if you’re looking to meet new people or broaden your gardening knowledge I would encourage you to find your local garden club and join up. Thanks to Mal from Bonny Hills Garden Centre and Karen from Wauchope garden club for putting this fantastic event together. The weather didn’t look good but the gardeners all turned up and the weather man actually turned off the tap to allow us a great morning out. Last garden club meeting for the year this morning for the Killabakh Garden Club out at Mondrook. I think I’ve admired the stunning view behind this house once before but once is hardly enough. Completely forgot last months meeting so it was nice to have remembered to set up a notification for this one in my Calendar. Only way I remember any events anymore! Christmas parties for both Clubs next month & I’ll be missing the final meeting for Hallidays Point Garden Club on Wednesday again as it’s the final day of Prac at Blooms The Chemist. I will have done 5 Wednesdays from 9am to 5pm to qualify me for my Pharmacy Certificate 111. It’s been demanding but I’ve enjoyed the variety of the work. Processing scripts, sales, restocking, ticketing, cleaning etc under supervision makes for very busy days. One more week of TAFE thereafter with TAFE attendance for classwork continuing on Thursdays throughout. Irises starting to bloom in our “Millthorpe” walk. This perennial garden is planted out with mauves, greens, whites and purples to mirror the colours on the Millthorpe logo. Having a colour theme guides planting. I’ve also mixed leaf texture, height and shape. This garden is 3 years old. The plants can tolerate both heat and frost and comes alive in spring but is best in summer with 2 deep waters a week.
