My hubby's fragrance choice, Kouros, starts with a bold and clean burst of citrusy and herbal notes from aldehydes, artemisia (a staple in 80s men's fragrances), bergamot, coriander, and clary sage. This combination makes a powerful statement. Don't be deceived by the fabric softener hint from the aldehydes; the bergamot enhances the soapy undertone, adding freshness. However, the absinthe-like and herbaceous character of artemisia and coriander dominates, creating a suave and robust envelope. Clary sage deepens the composition, complementing the herbal aspect. As the scent dries down, patchouli and orris root wrap the composition in an earthy and powdery veil. The clean, fabric-softener vibe fades, while carnation retains the herbal-spicy element. Patchouli, paired with civet, oakmoss, and musk, reveals the true nature of Kouros: carnal. There's a striking duality between the civet, which warms the composition and unleashes its animalic facet, and oakmoss, which adds a bittersweet and inky vibe. Musk adds further depth, unleashing the beast within. After several hours, the animalic character of Kouros fades, but patchouli and oakmoss linger. Undoubtedly, this fragrance leans heavily masculine; the vintage blend of herbal and animalic notes screams "virility." (I can't help but imagine Austin Powers saying, "Danger is my middle name," every time I smell it.) So, I definitely can't see myself wearing this scent—it's far too masculine for my taste. If you're considering buying this fragrance, I suggest sampling it first; Kouros is not a safe blind buy at all! With the current weather in Montréal, my hubby can enjoy wearing it without overwhelming the rooms he visits. But I'll forbid him from wearing this fragrance during summertime, for both his colleagues' sake and mine 😂. This peony is so beautiful that it doesn’t look real. Isn’t it stunning? I’ve been sniffing it today, trying to work out how to describe it. It reminds me a little of how magnolia smells: fleshy, watery, sweet but the peony is quite green too. It’s not at all how it’s often rendered in fragrance which always seems to me to be a fantastical imagining of what a peony should smell like if the scent matched its blowsy blooms, rather than what it actually does smell like if you get your nose up into it. ughhhh hate to admit that these were an absolute failllllll for me. This is the Part 3 of my reflections inspired by Francis Kurkdjian’s 55th anniversary and his recently released Miss Dior Parfum. Two monthes ago, walking past the Dior shoe display at @holtrenfrew, I glanced at it briefly and my eyes were frozen on this model. I was endlessly surprised to find something so attractive in the current Dior, which, after the dismissal of Galliano, completely lost its glamor. Every time I watch a new Dior show, even couture, it seems to me that Maria Grazia Chiuri creates for the Amish community. It was therefore surprising to see the true style of Christian Dior, to feel the vibes and spirit of the impeccable taste that he possessed and which he found in another generously gifted designer, Roger Vivier, who for ten years (from 1953) dressed up the feet of Dior's models with shoes that amazed the imagination with their elegance. The model I am talking about was Adiorable Pump from Summer 2024 collection. Almost everything is perfect here. Amazingly shaped grosgrain pump decorated with pearls and asymmetrical bows (the designers were inspited by Dior’s shoes from 1962 collection) is very much of Dior-Vivier style. If only they removed the CD logo from the pearls. This model is for the real Miss Dior, who is elegant, stylish and wears a beautiful, mysterious perfume, like was the same-name Dior’s treasure. After 3 weeks I found out that the model “was very popular and sold out very quickly.” I was told the same thing at the Dior boutique. So, a model that looks completely elegant, vintage and modern at the same time is very popular and sells very quickly. Maybe the same thing will happen with perfumes? Maybe it's just an illusion that people only want ugly sandals, tasteless clothes and boring primitive fragrances? What if they want style, chic, beauty and real Dior? No one is asking to exactly copy his models and scents from the past, but don't tell me that the unfortunate maids whom their masters dressed in clean clothes and let out on the catwalk, and sweet perfumed fruit and flower soups are Dior today. Is this really all he deserves? The shoes turned out amazing. May be it’s time to try it with fragrances as well.

gilded - adj. covered or tinged with a thin layer of gold or golden substance. Gilded by @libertinefragrance is a woody, gender-neutral perfume that evokes the sweep of time. With top notes of cardamom, cinnamon, and ginger, the opening is spicy yet subtle, with the woody accord underlying these notes almost immediately noticeable. Middle notes are orange blossom, immortelle, and brown sugar, which brings a sticky sweetness to the experience. Frankincense, opoponax, and pale woods form the base of this fragrance. On my skin, the perfume moves through the notes fairly quickly, and I am able to detect the incense and pale woods within a few minutes. When I wear this perfume, I experience many things. I am reminded of times gone by, of lives lived but now forgotten. I see Baroque flourishes, brushed with gold paint, in Italian cathedrals. I see the sparkling gemstones, golden chains, and overflowing champagne of the glitterati of current and past gilded societies. I am also very much reminded of dust. Wearing this perfume reminds me of the romance of scanning the shelves of a dusty, secondhand bookshop, and finding that one incredible gem. The first trilogy of the German brand @dsolperfumes is dedicated to light, featuring sparkling scents of sunny Majorca, if you’ve tried them, you know. Sombra marks the beginning of the second trilogy I suppose, dedicated to transitions from light to darkness. It’s very bold, simultaneously earthy, with shades reminiscent of a barnyard, something animalic, which might be off-putting if you’re not accustomed to oud’s characteristics. Fortunately, on my skin, Sombra mainly reveals metallic saffron tones and dark burgundy rose, with a distinct leather-animalic warmth of oud in the background, enhanced by nutty-earthy vetiver. This perfume possesses both attraction and repulsion simultaneously. I wear it as a guilty pleasure. If I were to test this fragrances blindly, I would say it’s something Middle Eastern. Joining my #fragfriends Keri @badgalfrag22 and Lisa @lisahardy2014 , yesterday I was smelling like a delicious bubble gummy tuberose with Fakhar by @lattafaperfume This is said to be a impression (or dupe) of L’Interdit by Givenchy and I can see the similarities, however, Fakhar is sweeter, more playful and fluffier whereas with L’Interdit, I get a green touch, more florals and it’s a bit fresher. Personally I like L’Interdit a bit better due to the florals being fresher and that touch of green. Also, L’Interdit isn’t as sweet or bubble gummy! It’s like with Fakhar they mixed tuberose and bubble gum and with L’Interdit they took the flowers along with the stem and leaves and mixed with a touch of bubble gum, just to flavor the tuberose up rather than having it as a strong note. Just one question: “Why?” Over the past twenty years, Dior has not released anything significant and even lost what it had before with endless reformulations and flankers. I am not considering perfumes with very limited distribution - a collection of five extracts and a boutique line. The brand's last resounding success came in 1999 with Calice Becker’s J'adore. In search of reasons, some point to François Demachy, who was the company's in-house perfumer from 2006 to 2021, while others blame LVMH. Demachy has a list of works that allow us to be sure that his fame is not accidental. The same goes for his successor, Francis Kurkdjian a perfumer with proven professional skills. However, Kurkdjian’s works for Dior surprised me but not in the way I would like. The last J'adore's white floral flanker was not bad, but it's not on the Dior level I imagine it should be, and Miss Dior parfum is kind of a sweet fruity-floral mess, even worse. As for LVMH, everyone here knows how many unflattering words have been said about it and, in particular, about Bernard Arnault personally regarding the aggressive way he created his empire of luxury goods. I don't like any empires or conglomerates because, firstly, they believe that money is the only efficiency; secondly, emperors often have quirks that are not justified by anything other than their own ego; thirdly, they think that they can do everything without being punished. I don't know anything about how negatively LVMH influences Dior perfumes, but I see Guerlain, which is part of the same empire, gushing with new scents and entire perfume lines, where most of the releases have an idea, are interesting and beautifully made. So, it is still possible even being a part of LVMH. Is it because of the personalities of Thierry Wasser and Delphine Jelk? Are they in some way better than Demachy and Kurkdjian? Or because Guerlain doesn't sell bags and undies, but Dior does? What's wrong with Dior? One way or another, today, Dior perfumes more and more becoming perfumery mass market by their spirit. Miss Dior Parfum release is just one in the line. I have a couple more things to say and I'll try to tell you about them tomorrow.

My #sotd on Monday was Musc Moschus, a clean, juicy, perfect for summer fragrance by @raniajparis I have to point out that this juice gets stronger and sweeter as it ages… i found a recent sample I had from years ago and it smells much deeper, more sugary sweet, still clean but with better projection, and the juicy notes are denser and really prominent! I can specially smell the black currant! So beautiful ❤️ I tried MM 3 years ago and fell in love with it, now I FINALLY took it off of my wish list and added it to my collection!! Soulle Amber by @florislondon is one of the fragrances they’ve brought back in their Ledger Series at Eau de Parfum strength. #fragfamwednesday Well it has been kinda like spring, some very oppressive heat and mega rains, I guess it is what it is. So aye, it's Wednesday and time for this weekly feature for them folks with under 1000 followers. It's just about drawing light their way. So first up is @cabdav19 who has a fine page with an impressive collection of fragrances and some great pictures. Next is @rosebrandy_jar with some very impressive photography and really great content and fab taste with some gorgeous fragrances. It's then @ramonasillage with some fine content filled with some good taste and really nice scents to check out. Finally is @scentress222 with another super page and really stunning perfumes and great pictures and content. A quick this week's YouTube. Two absolute legends in the fragrance YouTube world. First up @my_worldoffragrance who was back with a brilliant blind buy video. No spoilers but it good to have that reminder and reality that it doesn't always work out. And Sam is never scared to be absolutely honest. Finally a video I wouldn't normally watch all about the Top Ten "male" fragrances over YouTube. It was sadly predictable. However our @bowccl Claire manages to make it very interesting and engaging. All the research and time that she must have put on watching God awful "bro" videos I take my hat off. So aye thanks as ever for the support of this little thing and of me, who's also a little thing 🤣. At the moment I have a swollen eye lid that looks like I have been kicked in the eye by an elephant... The joys of age. Anyways have a fab rest of the week folks.

On Mother’s Day, my boys surprised me with a hand care set from @oribe, a luxury brand mostly famous for their lavish hair care products. 💝🧴 As soon as I opened it, I noticed that the scent of the hand care products matched the fragrance of a 10 ML travel size roll-on vial I’ve owned for a while. The fragrance, called Côte d’Azur, is an airy blend of citruses and light florals that transports me to the late summers in the beautiful French Riviera.
