Guerlain Habit Rouge EDT❤️❤️❤️ If someone said to me that I smell “like an old lady/man”, I’d take it as a compliment. I haven’t met many old ladies/men with an atrocious perfume taste. On the contrary, it’s the younger generation which most of the time makes me cringe. But is there any wonder? People pay so little attention to their sense of smell, that with the modern abundance of perfume releases every year newbies are getting overwhelmed or just don’t bother to spend their time on picking their fragrances carefully. This is where classics come handy. I believe it’s worth getting to know classic perfume compositions before diving into the deep sea of modern perfumery. Habit Rouge is one of those eternal classics. Even though it’s marketed for men, I found enough floral and sweeter amber nuances to counteract the dryness and make it a fragrance easily worn by women. When considering a purchase of perfume, I’m all for a more complex and multi-faceted version: I enjoy discovering new notes, and therefore usually prefer the pure parfum/extrait version over the EDT/EDP and EDP over the EDT. This is how I ensure I won’t get bored of my scent too fast. However with HR I found that EDT is more interesting and complex than EDP. EDT opens with the invigorating burst of lime, lemon and basil! Normally I am not a fan of citruses, but straight away I get a sneaky peak of the carnation/rose heart and a whiff of dark green (a barbershop type) oakmoss. It balances the tartness of the top notes beautifully!I believe here is where the secret is! The contrasting nuances of red and green; hot and cold; light and darkness; lipsticky flowers and barks/deep green foliage! Vanilla and labdanum duet is a wonderful “binding” compound in this structure - it helps the perfume to become a whole, one creature, bold and comfortable in their own skin. I am sure it would be perceived differently from men and women: I would not be surprised if from a lady it would read as a “green chypre” and a man would proudly wear it as a classy barbershop scent. 😍 #guerlainhabitrouge #thankyoujeanpaulguerlain #oldschoolperfume #perfumetreasures #habitrougeedt #knowyourperfumeclassics

SOTD:Habit Rouge EDT by Guerlain. Beautiful powdery lemon that dries down into rose, vanilla, with just a hint of leather on my cool skin. 💯 underrated in my opinion. Yes, by today’s standards some will feel it’s a bit dated, I think it’s timeless. It took me almost a year to decide on this bottle. I tested it many times and it always made me think of the smell of the corn field. When I bought it and fully wore it it made me feel unique on this planet. It is a special smell, like a mature man, with those citric notes and a creamy background that make it really spectacular. My top 3 vanilla fragrances. Honorable mentions: Diptyque Eau Duelle and Tauerville Vanilla Flash. 1) Guerlain Habit Rouge edt - in 1965 this was a shocker, vanilla in a masculine fragrance. It shook the world and now I'm shaking each time I put it on. One of the best ever. 2) Dior Fahrenheit Parfum - a mislabeled fragrance as it's got little to do with the great edt... but on its own it's a pretty good vanilla for any man👍 3) Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille - vanilla, caramel, licorice? I'm not supposed to like it but somehow I do👌 It has even a coffee vibe. A gourmand that even gourmand-haters can handle. Inspired by @nikhilsfrags my #sotd is #habitrouge by @guerlain . This is my third bottle, and Habit Rouge was in my collection long before you could call it a collection. It’s very easy to get caught up with the next release and the next buy, and easy to overlook the quality of the fragrances that are at the back of your cupboard. An invigorating, oily citrus opening combines perfectly with masculine florals of Rose and carnation in the mid, and then the spice and resins gently steer this towards an oriental, underpinned by sandalwood. This is all wrapped up in an understated leather, and all the way through is the Guerlain DNA of Tonka and herbs. There really is a lot going on here, and Habit Rouge evolves on you throughout the day. This is not one to judge after first spray; it is complex, masterful and sophisticated. Yet it costs a fraction of most niche fragrances. My Guerlain Habit Rouge collection. First introduced as an EDC in 1965, Habit Rouge has gone thorough many iterations since then.
