The Arts and social justice organisation ‘Playing The Race Card’ launched their latest exhibition, Black Joy! Up Close and Personal, at the Hastings Museum and Art Gallery last week. Over 40 talented Black artists from the South East of England will feature in this one-of-a-kind display, including two featured artists from The Creative Quarter. Award winning arts and heritage producer, Anita J McKenzie (photographer and artist) and Holly Oluwo (collage artist) were selected, their work reflects the resilience, beauty, and the spirit of Black Joy. Typically for the artist’s work, it strikes a delicate balance between sculpture and story, fiction and site-specific installation. We are delighted to announce Rebecca Mason will be joining Under the Moon Art Market on Saturday the 25th May, 11-5pm, being held at the Digital: Glassworks, Mill Bay, Folkestone, CT20 1JR @rebecca_mason_art Rebecca Mason is an artist who has worked with neon light since 2013. Her artwork reflects on life experiences, emotions, and the realities of human existence, resonating with audiences worldwide. She has exhibited widely in London and at international art fairs such as Scope Miami, The Other Art Fair, The Affordable Art Fair, Moniker Art Fair, and Glasgow Art Fair. Rebecca has also created two immersive installations for The Other Art Fair/Saatchi Art, was a regular exhibitor with Lights of Soho, and her work was displayed in a special feature in Fenwick’s windows on Bond Street, London. Following a move to Folkestone in 2016, Rebecca was able to set up her own glass bending studio, as well as run a gallery in the Creative Quarter until 2020. Although currently taking a break from exhibitions, Rebecca will be offering special Folkestone studio-sale prices at our May market, including mini prints, cushions, necklaces, studio samples and seconds limited edition prints. Announcing the new curator and dates for Folkestone Book Festival 2024! 📚 🗣️ We are delighted to announce that Sophie Haydock is our new Curator: Books, Ideas and Community. Folkestone resident Sophie brings a whole heap of knowledge and experience to Creative Folkestone with a passion for big ideas, brilliant books, and bringing people together. Among other things, Sophie will put together a packed programme of talks, events and engaging activities for Folkestone Book Festival 2024. This year’s festival will take place from Friday 15 until Sunday 24 November 2024. Save the date! Over the coming months, Sophie and the team will be working behind the scenes to curate a festival that will return this November. Stay tuned for more news about what the new look festival will entail. Read on for a bit more about Sophie. Sophie is an award-winning author and journalist and has worked at the Sunday Times Magazine, Tatler, and BBC Three, as well as freelanced for the Financial Times and Guardian. Passionate about short stories, Sophie worked for the Sunday Times Short Story Award and the Word Factory. The Flames is her debut novel and featured in the 2023 Folkestone Book Festival with Joanna Biggs in the talk “How Should a Woman Live?”. We never intended to try and maintain two entities that relate to the same business and physical location. Any Hi-Fi products that we have access to sell as part of the dealership, will be advertised on the NEW forthcoming V&V website. 🥳 The Vintage and Vinyl website (www.vintageandvinyl.co.uk) still exists! However, as it's V&V's 10th anniversary this year, we will be refreshing the website, so please bear with us while we pull all the necessary content together, to get this going. This will also include a selection of Hi-Fi products available to order. 🎧 🎤 To commemorate the 10 year anniversary of V&V, we plan to introduce a "B-Side" logo, to supplement the iconic Zebra "A-Side".
