Finally getting a little butterfly action. I go through this every year thinking the butterflies are going to be no shows. I admit, they are a bit late to our particular party, but better late than never, I guess. Bout time! This is the first Eastern Tiger Swallowtail I've seen in our garden this year. He certainly enjoyed his time sipping nectar from this garden Phlox. 👌 Btw, this is our first year of this native Phlox. We picked it up at the native plant sale back in April and it's been super popular with all the pollinators. Hummingbirds are loving it too. I'm hoping to get some more of this great native in the fall. Highly recommend. Saturday Night I stepped onto the catwalk to help fight food insecurity in Maine with fashion. The second Annual Flowers That Feed Fashion show was held in New Gloucester, Maine at The Coolidge Family Farm. The event was put on by Misty the Current reigning Mrs Worldwide and Whitley the Current Reigning Mrs USA for International Ms. The night started off with champagne and shopping as local artist show cased and sold their art. Followed by an amazing Fashion show. Where designers from not only Maine but across the country showcased thier clothing. I had the honor of walking for Style Your Curves in a beautiful pink dress that tied in the front and was beyond comfortable to wear. I also had the honor of walking for Art by Ben a local Maine artist. Who’s scarfs are like a chefs kiss 🤌🏼on any outfit. His leggings let me tell you are absolutely amazing as well! Walking in this event for the second year in a row was a blessing. As a child and young adult my family needed the help of food banks to make it though at times. I’ve known the feeling of not knowing where my next meal would be coming from. So to be able to help my friends Misty and Whitley with their goals and vision. While making a difference in the lives of others felt like a full circle moment. Congratulations ladies on an amazing second year! I know next year will be even better! Misty and I got together to go over final details for the upcoming #flowersthatfeed :Floral Fashions Feeding Families Art & Fashion Showcase benefiting the Good Shepherd Food Bank. This year's show is going to be so epic with incredible performances, VIP options, art vendors, and some surprises thrown in! This month we will be releasing and highlighting designers, performers, arists, models, and the sponsors behind making this benefit possible. It's truly inspiring having so many people come together to give a part of themselves to help prevent and fight food insecurity, something Misty and I have both personally faced. My 19-year-old self, who was facing homelessness and doing everything I could to survive, would be proud, amazed, and grateful of where I am today. The most difficult life challenges I have faced have led me to my greatest passions and purpose. These reminders help me hold strong amidst struggle. This week has been a tough one, having lost 2 friends/acquaintances within the music community, adding to a handful of other amazing people who have also passed this year. I have so much to say about that, and I am still processing through it all, but this meeting with Misty was a reminder to turn pain and sadness into purpose. To learn the lessons in the tragedy, from the hurt, from each stage of grief, to honor, value, let it speak, feel the feels, and to work with the community to collectively work towards solutions. This morning, Misty and I went to volunteer and the Second Harvest Food Bank feeding Southern Louisiana in New Orleans. @2ndharvestgnoa It is truly incredible the impact this food bank makes. Pre-covid they distributed approximately 31million meals annually, which then spiked to 69 million meals when covid hit, and has now settled to approximately 45million meals annually 😳On top of that they prep 10,000 meals for hurricane season every year, not knowing when or where disaster may hit. They provide for over 700 agencies that service 23 Louisiana parishes(or counties). They work directly with schools, not only providing hot and cold lunches and after-school snacks, but they also provide storage to over 250 schools with inadequate refrigeration and storage facilities. They believe in supporting their employees first, which is evident in their little turnover and long tenure in staff, and they were awarded "Best Employer" in 2022. All the staff and volunteers were so welcoming, and amazingly, the first volunteer we met lives in Maine and was visiting her mom in NOLA! Sometimes you just know you are in the right place at the right time. It was a gorgeous evening last Thursday to welcome over 50 guests to our main site farm. We were proud to share with our guests the path our flowers make from the farm to their bouquets. Our zinnias, celosia, statice and beyond are grown and donated alongside the fresh produce we provide to food pantries. Both of which end up on the dinner tables of Indy residents across the city. Our #FlowersThatFeed events help us feed the stomachs and spirits of those in need. @8thDayDistillery provided their delicious Gin & Tonic canned cocktail paired with @yamallama_deli’s tasty charcuterie cups, which completed the picnic on the farm vibes 🌼 Shoutout to @auditingculture for sharing their bloom creations from the evening!
