On New Year’s Eve, my work will be displayed in Times Square once again, as part of a digital exhibition, curated by @artisttalkmagazine. “Brain Vs. Heart: Round 2” [2023] 40” x 40” Oil on canvas. The battle of the brain versus the heart can be described as the conflict between rational thinking and emotions. The brain represents logic, reasoning, critical thinking, while the heart represents our emotions, desires, and intuition. When we make decisions, sometimes we have that battle that feels like a UFC fight. The psychology behind becoming a professional UFC fighter requires mental preparation, emotional control, and the ability to stay focused, which needs to be mastered in order become a champion. In “Brain Vs. Heart: Round 2,” the brain and the heart fight inside The Octagon, in what can be considered a championship fight. The brain is wearing the shorts that Stipe Miocic wore when he defeated Fabricio Werdum at UFC 195 and became heavyweight champ. The heart is wearing the shorts Jon Jones wore when he became the youngest champion in UFC history by defeating Shogun Rua for the light heavyweight title in UFC 128. “The Game Of Life” (2021) 48” x 36” Oil on canvas Faith without a test, is no faith at all. The obstacles and challenges we face as humans is a game to see if humanity can stay in the light, despite traumas, negativity, suffering, fears, hardships, etc. We were all created to embody both light and darkness, and as humans, we have the capacity to do the greatest good and love and also the capacity to become the greatest evil. This painting “The Game Of Life” is one of my favorite paintings, showing the battle between good and evil in the form of a chess match. This painting contains many elements from the strategic placement of the chess pieces, the choice of chess pieces left on the board, to the colors of background, and many other things that was intentionally placed within this painting. “Water The Flowers To My Soul” [2022] 36” x 48” Oil on canvas When I first thought of this concept, the first thing I wanted to do was to incorporate the pyramid that makes up Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs in the background of the painting. This painting is built around this psychological theory by Maslow that suggests certain basic needs must be met before people are motivated towards moving up the hierarchy to pursue more social, emotional, and self-actualizing needs. Physiological needs, such as water and air, are the basic needs for survival and the first thing that motivates our behavior. This oil painting relates the water as being most precious essence for our soul, vital to survival, and breathing life into us. An amazing night @elbarriosartspace celebrating Latin artists at Cada Comunidad Latino Arts Fest 2023: Visions of Empowerment. Highlights from last Friday’s event in Staten Island @richmondhoodco. It truly was an honor to be able to present @raekwon with a limited edition metal print of my painting “Wu-Tang Forever.” I signed his #6/36 copy for him on the front, while he signed the one for @richmondhoodco. Thank you to @mrtariqnyc @danlingo for making things happen… and to @cyph.jones for being there and capturing the memories. Still so crazy to think of the 30+ years of being a huge fan of Wu-Tang growing up in Staten Island, meeting Raekwon as a teenager in the Wu-Wear store, to now being able to connect with him as an artist and present him with a piece. I told Raekwon when I made this painting a few months back, I had a vision of giving all the members of Wu-Tang their own limited edition and numbered print to show my appreciation of what they represent. This painting is a tribute to my friend Tamer, who passed away tragically in late 2021. Last night, I had the opportunity to present the family with the original painting, along with some merchandise. This was a very difficult painting that took some extensive and top secret planning to get done. I wanted to make sure it captured the energy of Tamer. To be able to share special stories and memories of Tamer’s life with his kids last night made it extremely memorable for me. There were many emotional moments along the way when making this painting, from remembering the times we would talk about our crazy fandom and love of the @dallascowboys to remembering those “Tamer” stories, in which anyone who knew him had plenty. He will forever be missed and I know this painting will forever capture the love and solicitude he had for his family. As an artist, I use art as a form of communication for my thoughts and feelings through a flawed medium. This contemporary artwork is created by layer upon layer of oil paint to create a whirlpool effect that hints at a world beyond the swirling water of the foreground. My last completed painting of 2022 - “Digress 3” is the newest one in the ‘Digress’ series, which further symbolizes how life unexpectedly digresses in ways we didn’t plan or prepare for. Owls can be interpreted to represent transformative change, intuition, intellect, wisdom, and understanding. According to Freud, red owls in a dream represent negativity being pushed out of the subconscious. The opinions of others, the fast pace of life, the weak and vulnerable state of a person, are all represented when red owls enter a dream, as they seek togetherness in a life that is out of control. The color red describes one’s energy and emotional signature as a message from the subconscious to pay attention to seemingly small decisions that can have significant consequences. The red owls can also represent ambition and passion, suggesting a pursuit of a goal with a single-minded focus and determination while dealing with “balanced chaos” as life digresses. DIGRESS 3. Two months ago, I gave this painting to my mother for her birthday to surprise her. While there’s no gift I could ever give to her to show her how important she is to myself and my family, I decided to make her a painting of her favorite place in the world…The Snow White Wishing Well at Disney. To my mother, there is no place more special. It was always our first stop and last stop when at @disneyland. To her, this wishing well represents a certain peace that she feels by being there, throwing change in, and making a wish. She would often describe it to my brother and me as one of her favorite places in the world and a place where hopes and dreams come true. This painting took me several months to do, as I couldn’t post it on IG to keep it a secret, and had to hide it every time she came over. I don’t have the reaction video when she received and opened up painting (and she probably wouldn’t let me post it anyway), but being able to make a painting especially for her will always be meaningful to me. Also, if anyone noticed, the little boy that the mom is holding, is wearing a Thriller jacket 🤪…(I had to throw that little Easter egg in the painting). After watching the new @blackpanther movie twice in a week, I reflected on the “Ancestral Plane” commissioned painting I did in 2019. This oil painting portrays the powerful scene from the original Black Panther movie where King T’Challa has a spiritual vision, connects with his ancestors, and talks to his father about his future.
