EFES’TE BİZANS DÖNEMİNDE YAMAÇ EV 2’DE ÇÖMLEKÇİ, METAL, TAŞ KESME, DEMİRCİ ATÖLYESİ İLE UN DEĞİRMENİ VARDI 📌 Efes Antik Kenti’nin tarihine ışık tutan Yamaç Evler 2, Helenistik dönemde mezar, Roma döneminde seçkin insanların konfor içinde yaşadığı konutlardan oluşurken, bu yapılar Bizans döneminde ise atölyelerden ibaretti. Kent, bin yıllık yaşamı süresince sürekli değişiklikler geçirmiştir. Her ne kadar tam zamanı henüz tespit edilemese de M.S. 6 ya da 7. yüzyıllarda kısmen ayakta duran antik mevcutların içinde değişik atölyeler vardı. Yamaç Ev 2’de bir çömlekçi, bir renkli metal atölyesi, aralarında taş testeresi ile un değirmenlerinin yer aldığı su gücü kullanan atölyeler ile demirci atölyesinde kullanılan ocak bulunuyordu. 📌 Yamaç Ev 2’de Bizans Dönemi atölyelerinde su gücüyle çalışan taş testeresi de yer alıyordu. Su gücünün sadece un değirmenleri için kullanılmadığı da ortaya çıktı. Buraya su, 43 kilometrelik bir hat olan Değirmendere Su Yolu’ndan geliyordu. The Temple of Hadrian was built before 138 A.D. for Emperor Hadrian’s visit.” This part of a recent trip was so amazing to me because of the ancient ruins and the history of Ephesus. I remember learning all the books of the Bible many years ago, but never imagined that someday I would be able to visit the city of the Ephesians that the apostle Paul wrote to.

Bugün gezilen Efes, Büyük İskender’in generallerinden Lysimakhos tarafından M.Ö. 300 yıllarında kurulmuştur. Hellenistik ve Roma çağlarında en görkemli dönemlerini yaşayan Efes’teki Celcus Kütüphanesi, M.S. 110-135 yılları arasında Celcus’un oğlu Gaius Julius Aquila tarafından yaptırılmıştır. Ancak bu yapı yapılışından itibaren önü birçok değişikliğe uğramıştır. 📌 M.S. 2. yüzyıla tarihlenen Celcus Kütüphanesi’nin cephesinin sağında Agora’nın Güney Kapısı, solunda Helenistik döneme ait peristilli ev yani sütunlarla çevrili, bahçe gibi avlusu olan ev veya ön yüzünde sütunlu girişi olan ev vardı. Kütüphane yapılırken evin bir kısmını yıkmışlardı. Bizans döneminde ise basamakların önüne Part Anıtı konmuştu. Bu kapının her iki tarafı grafitilerle doludur. Ticari agoradan girdiğinizde sağ bölümde Hekate ve Menora, sol tarafta ise Artemis’in yanında iki uçlu balta grafitisi göreceksiniz. Orijinal adı Labris, Latince adı ise Bipennis olan balta resminin benzeri daha önce Denizli’deki Laodikya kazılarında antik kentin kurucu tanrısı Zeus’un heykelinin başının yakınında gün yüzüne yani “Tanrının Baltası” çıkarılmıştı. 📌 Mitolojide çift yüzlü balta, gücü ve kuvveti sembolize ediyor. Çift başlı balta, gökyüzü ile irtibat figürlerin (tanrılar, tanrıçalar ve kahramanlar) ellerinde taşıdıkları ya da kullandıkları kutsal bir nesne ve savaş aletidir. Bu kapıda duvara çizilmiş Artemis grafitisi göreceksiniz. Artemis ve Apollon’un anneleri Leto 9 gün doğum sancısı çeker. 8. günde 6 Mayıs tarihinde Artemis, 9. günde kardeşi Apollon doğar. Apollon’un Delos adasında doğumuna karşın Artemis “Ortygie” denilen bugün Efes’in Arvalya mevkii olduğu düşünülen, eskiden koruluk olan yerde doğmuştur. 📌 Strabon Geographika M.S. 17 yılında Efes yakınındaki Kenkhrios ırmağından söz eder. Bu ırmağın kenarında, denizden “bir miktar” yüksekte, Ortygia adlı muhteşem bir koruluk vardır. O korulukta tanrıça Leto ikiz çocukları Artemis ve Apollon’u doğurmuş, doğumdan sonra Kenkhrios ırmağında yıkanmıştır. Korunun ardındaki Solmissós dağında koruyucu ve kollayıcı Kuretes’ler, anneyi ve dölünü kıskanç tanrıça Hera’dan korumak için nöbet tutmuştur. It’s not really like what I thought, much more choke-a-block and touristy but here are quieter locations I appreciated. Also the speed limitation was so precise I initially thought I misread it.
