I spent a good portion of my week cleaning the Odeyak. The Odeyak is on permanent display in the exhibit hall at ACCI. We are closed for Goose Break for 2 weeks, so I am taking advantage of the closure to get the annual conservation housekeeping done. I had a very busy few days hosting two members of staff from the Canadian Conservation Institute who were here doing an assessment of the facility. They also brought some equipment from the conservation staff at the Ingenium Museums so I could test some mining samples for the presence of radioactive materials. The assessment went great and no radiation was detected in the mining samples! This past Thursday was #internationalmuseumday I spent too much time considering posting options and decided that at the core of all museums is the goal to preserve something for the future, which is a key part of my role as conservator at ACCI. So I am sharing a project that I hope will help this absolutely fabulous pink beret continue to be preserved. The biggest project of Goose Break was definitely the deep cleaning if ACCI's Library. Huge shout out to the maintenance team that removed all bottom shelves to vacuum and clean, as well as dusting and vacuuming the rest of the room. I was in charge of moving and keeping all the books organized. This will hopefully reduce the pest levels in the library as we head into spring and summer. I spent the day working with a local high schooler, showing them some of the different tasks we do at ACCI.
