Have they heck! 😫 Today was testing but let’s hope it’ll be kind to everyone over the next two days. Congratulations to James Bradley-Day (Kent) who is currently leading the way after a massive 117. That is phenomenal shooting 👏 But still all to play for those going out over the weekend. Jack Whitehouse and Eric Weston continue to lead the way for Staffordshire with 110. Joining the 100 club have been Keith Hodgkinson (103 and currently second in Super Vets) and Tim Howell (102) – great shooting, guys! We’ve seen some really good performances across all the classes and categories, including Junior Ladies shooter, Lucy Christie who put in a very good 89. Yesterday ran very smoothly with Doveridge putting on an excellent course and showing that they're a first-rate venue. Even the weather played it's part! Leading scorers for Staffordshire were Jack Whitehouse and Eric Weston, both with 110ex120, just four off current High Gun. Phil Bailey (107) and Robert Bailey (100) also broke the 100 mark. Jon Bowker and Paul Cockle also put in excellent scores of 98 in A class. Must also give a shout-out to Bailey Paul, one of the very best disabled shots out there, who not only put in a fine 83 but finished the day refereeing on one of the stands! Following on from the success of last season, I will once more be running selection shoots. This will be for all categories: Seniors, Veterans, Ladies and Juniors. As with last season, in order to provide you with as much choice as possible, we will be running the shoots over four separate grounds: Doveridge, Garlands, Kingsley Moor and Mickley Hall. In order to qualify to represent Staffordshire at this year’s Inter-County championship, you must: 💥 Take part in at least 3 selection shoots in the series. 💥 Shoot at least 2 different grounds but these can be any 2 of your choosing. 💥 Be available to shoot for the county at the Inter County championship at Doveridge on Sunday 22nd September. 💥 Pay the £2 County levy at each shoot. 💥 Be Clay Pigeon Shooting Association registered. He’s being coached by Mikey Gilligan (pictured) and Allen Warren and is in the British Shooting Talent Pathway Programme. 💥 18-19 March – English Sporting WM Area Championship 💥 Held at Doveridge Clay Sports & Leisure, as well as the second ESP selection shoot, the weekend also saw the first England Selection shoot, alongside the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association West Midlands Area Championship. Top performer for Staffordshire was Phil Bailey with 90, just 4 off High Gun, earning him WM Area Senior Bronze 🥉 on what was, understandably, a very testing course. This is the premier team trophy for the WM region, contested among the seven counties: Cheshire, Derbyshire, Gloucestershire, Hereford & Worcester, Shropshire, Staffordshire and Warwickshire. Staffordshire have a proud record, winning the @lyalvaleexpress 18 times out of the last 36 since 1987, although it’s out first win since 2016. Our thanks to all on the WM committee who run and organise all of the Inter-County events. They do a terrific job, especially in what is a very congested calendar. Staffordshire won Gold in All Round, Automatic Ball Trap, FITASC and Universal Trench, Silver in English Sporting and Bronze in English Skeet, Helice and Olympic Trap. These great set of results also helped us to take the Gun Up Trophy! Elsewhere, we improved in nearly every other category, up from 4th to 2nd in Gun Down and from 7th to 4th in both Ladies and Veterans. We remained 5th in Juniors although significantly narrowed the game on those above us, finishing just 3 points behind Gloucestershire, Shropshire and Warwickshire. Room for improvement but thanks to your help, we’re getting there! 💥 Staffordshire Ladies Day – 28th January 2023 💥 We held our inaugural Staffordshire Ladies Day at Doveridge Clay Sports & Leisure today and what a splendid day it was too! In chilly but dry conditions, an excellent turn out of shooters demonstrated their prowess with a shotgun across a range of disciplines; ABT, English Skeet, DTL Single Barrel and English Sporting.
