My tune choice today is "House of Fun" by English ska/pop group Madness, which was released as a one-off single on 14th May 1982. It is a coming of age song which tells the story of a boy on his 16th birthday attempting to buy condoms at a chemist. The UK age of consent is 16, and he makes a point of stating that he is "16 today and up for fun". However, the boy is misunderstood by the chemist, as he asks for the condoms using slang euphemisms, such as "box of balloons with a featherlight touch" and "party hats with the coloured tips". The confused chemist behind the counter eventually informs the boy that the establishment is not a joke shop, and directs him towards the "House of Fun". The song was originally recorded without the "Welcome to the House of Fun" chorus, under the title "Chemist Facade". The head of Stiff Records, Dave Robinson, insisted that the song should have a chorus, so band member Mike Barson immediately wrote the "Welcome to the House of Fun" refrain on his piano. At this point, the song had already been recorded, but the management decided not to re-record the whole song. Instead, the recording was edited, with the chorus instruments and vocals dubbed onto the recording. Due to the technical limitations of the time this proved to be difficult and resulted in the first part of the word "Welcome" being cut off. Due to this, the chorus seemed to begin "Elcome to the House of Fun", so lead singer Suggs was forced to overdub the word "Welcome". The song reached number one in the UK Singles Chart. It was re-released in 1992, reaching number 40. It is the band's only number one single in the UK and in 2015 the British public voted it as the nation's 8th favourite 1980s number one in a poll for ITV. . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #tunefortuesday #tunesday #80smusic #musiclover #musichistory #ska #ukmusic #madness #welcometothehouseoffun #suggs #dogslovemusictoo #corgi #corgisofinstagram #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

My music choice today is "Evil Twin", a new single from Lindsey Stirling's new album "Duality". The new album, out for release on June 14th, is about the conflicting parts of our lives. "Evil Twin" very much follows that theme. It reflects Stirling’s own journey of self-love and encouragement. In Lindsey's words: “Sometimes we feel at war with ourselves as we see the divide between who we are and who we wish we were. These conflicts feel like they could tear you apart, but by facing the darker parts within us, we can truly gain an understanding about ourselves and others". The song is the third release from the album, following “Eye of the Untold Her” and “Inner Gold. The song “Evil Twin” is also a counterpart to an unreleased song off the new album “The Scarlet Queen” which focuses on self-doubt. . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musicmonday #musiclover #newmusic #violinist #lindseystirling #dualityalbum #eviltwins #dogslovemusictoo #musicislife #corgi #corgisofinstagram #corgicommunity #corgismile #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

It's a return to rainy weather in my little corner of the world, so my song choice this Tuesday is "Here Comes the Rain Again" by British duo Eurythmics. The song was written by group members Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart and produced by Stewart. It was the opening track from their third studio album "Touch" and was released on 12th January 1984 as the album's third single in the UK and in the US as the first single. It became the Eurythmics' second top 10 US hit, peaking at number four on the Billboard Hot 100. In the UK, "Here Comes the Rain Again" hit number eight in the UK Singles Chart, becoming their fifth consecutive top 10 single in their home country. Stewart and Lennox wrote the song while staying at the Mayflower Hotel in New York City. It was an overcast day, and Stewart was playing "melancholy A minor-ish chords with the B note in it" on his Casio keyboard. Lennox came over, looked out the window at the gray skies and the New York skyline, and spontaneously sang, "Here comes the rain again". The duo worked out the rest of the song based on that mood. The string arrangements by Michael Kamen were performed by members of the British Philharmonic Orchestra. However, due to the limited space in the studio, the players had to improvise by recording their parts in other parts of the studio. The song was then mixed by blending the orchestral tracks on top of the original synthesized backing track. The running time for "Here Comes the Rain Again" is in actuality about five minutes long and was edited on the Touch album (fading out at approximately four-and-a-half minutes). It was edited even further for its single and video release. . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #tunefortuesday #tunesday #musiclover #musichistory #80smusic #eurythmics #herecomestherainagain #annielennox #davidstewart #dogslovemusictoo #rainydays #musicforrainydays #corgisofinstagram #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

My song choice this Monday is "King" by English indie rock band Florence and the Machine. Written and produced by Florence Welch and Jack Antonoff, this rock ballad explores both society's expectations for women and Welch's personal conflict in choosing between her career and starting a family. In an April 2022 interview with Vogue, Welch stated: "The whole crux of the song is that you're torn between the two. The thing I've always been sure of is my work, but I do start to feel this shifting of priorities, this sense of, like, maybe I want something different." "King" was released on 23rd February 2022 by Polydor Records as the lead single from the band's fifth studio album "Dance Fever". Work on the album was originally scheduled for early 2020 in New York City; however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, recording took place in London instead. It was released on 13th May 2022. Florence Welch described the album as "a fairytale in 14 songs" and cited Iggy Pop as the biggest musical influence on the album; which features a variety of styles, ranging from progressive pop to indie pop, disco, and industrial music. The single "King" was nominated for Best Alternative Music Performance at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards and won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically at The Ivors in London on Thursday 18 May 2023. . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musichistory #musiclover #musicmonday #indiemusic #indierock #florenceandthemachine #king #dancefever #dogslovemusictoo #rockerdog #corgi #corgisofinstagram #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

On May 10th, 1986, Falco made history as the first Austrian artist to score a US and UK No.1 single with “Rock Me Amadeus.” The feat also made him the only artist to score a number-one hit with a German language song in the US which it did on 29th March 1986 The song is about the classical composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). Mozart was a child prodigy who performed his first musical tour at the age of five. His last three years were his most successful and he supposedly had an extremely excessive lifestyle. The basic concept of Falco's song is the suggestion that Mozart was the rock'n'roll rebel of his day. Falco teamed up with Dutch music producers Rob and Ferdi Bolland to write the song about Mozart because they felt he was Austria's son. The Bolland brothers also wrote and recorded "In The Army Now," later a number 2 hit in the UK for Status Quo, and "Love House," a Top 40 hit in the UK and Germany for Samantha Fox. Falco died in a car crash at age 40 in February 1998. According to his estate, Falco (whose real name was Johann "Hans" Hölzel) has sold 20 million albums and 40 million singles, which makes him the best-selling Austrian singer of all time. Born in Vienna, Austria in 1957, he was an established artist in German-speaking territories long before "Rock Me Amadeus" was released, but it was his first huge international hit. As well as "Rock Me Amadeus", he had several international hits, including "Der Kommissar" a non-English language rap music song recorded in December 1981; "Vienna Calling"; "Jeanny"; "The Sound of Musik"; "Coming Home (Jeanny Part II, One Year Later)" and posthumously "Out of the Dark". . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musichistory #fridayrocks #musiclover #schoolofrock #rockmusic #falco #rockmeamadeus #bollandandbolland #dogslovemusictoo #rockerdog #corgi #corgisofinstagram #corgismile #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

Today's song choice is "What's Love Got to Do with It" by Tina Turner. Written by Graham Lyle and Terry Britten, the song was originally offered to Cliff Richard, but he declined. It was some months before Turner recorded the song, that the British pop group Bucks Fizz were offered it. Member Jay Aston, after hearing the demo, asked to sing lead, but was told by the producer that it was unsuitable for a female lead vocal. The group went on to record it in February 1984, with the lead vocal sung by male member Bobby G. Aston recalls the demo was very similar to the eventual Tina Turner version, but in a very different style. It was intended for possible inclusion on their next album "I Hear Talk" but was shelved when Turner released her version first. The Bucks Fizz version went unreleased until it was included on a re-issue of their "Are You Ready" album in 2000. The song was recorded by Turner for her fifth studio album, Private Dancer (1984). Capitol Records released it as a single in May 1984. "What's Love Got to Do with It" became her first and only Billboard Hot 100 number one single, selling over 2,000,000 copies worldwide. At the time, aged 44, Turner became the oldest solo female artist to top the Hot 100. The song was 2nd biggest single of 1984 in the US and the 17th-biggest in the UK, where it peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart. It topped the charts in Australia and Canada and peaked at number three in New Zealand. The song also reached the top 10 in many European countries, including the top 5 in Ireland, Sweden, and Austria. It reached number two in South Africa. The song received three awards at the 27th Annual Grammy Awards: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musicmonday #musichistory #musiclover #tinaturner #tinaturnerforever #whatslovegottodowithit #80smusic #dogslovemusictoo #rockerdog #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

On 3rd May 1968 the Jimi Hendrix Experience recorded "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)". Written by Jimi Hendrix the song appears as the final track on their third studio album, "Electric Ladyland". The track includes improvised guitar and vocals from Hendrix, backed by Noel Redding on bass and Mitch Mitchell on drums. The song is one of Hendrix's best known; it was a feature of his concert performances throughout his career, and several live renditions were recorded and released on later albums. After his death in 1970, Track Records released the song as a single in the UK using the title "Voodoo Chile". It became Hendrix's only number one single on the UK Singles Chart, reaching the top position during the week of November 15th 1970. Rolling Stone magazine included the song at number 101 on their original 2004 list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time". . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musichistory #musiclover #rockmusic #fridayrocks #schoolofrock #psychedelicrock #classicrock #60smusic #jimihendrix #jimihendrixexperience #voodoochild #voodoochile #rockerdog #dogslovemusictoo #corgisofinstagram #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

Today (30th April) 1957, Elvis Presley recorded the rock and roll track "Jailhouse Rock". It was recorded for the film of the same name and was written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. RCA Victor released the song on a 45 rpm single on September 24, 1957, as the first single from the film's soundtrack EP. The single, with its B-side "Treat Me Nice" (another song from the film's soundtrack) was a US number one hit for seven weeks in the fall of 1957, and a UK number one hit for three weeks early in 1959. Today (29th April) in 1967, Aretha Franklin's classic version of "Respect" was released. Franklin's version is so definitive that most people assume she was the first to record the song, but it was originally recorded by American soul singer Otis Redding. Redding's earlier version was released in 1965 as a single from his third album "Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul". At first a ballad, "Respect" was brought to Redding by Earl "Speedo" Sims, who intended to record it with his band, the Singing Demons. No one is really sure who wrote the original version of the song. Redding took Sims' version (with Sim's agreement), rewrote the lyrics and sped up the tempo. Redding promised to credit Sims, but this never happened. Sims never pressed Redding on the issue, possibly because he himself had not really written it in the first place. The music in Aretha Franklin's version which was recorded on Valentine's Day 1967, is significantly different. For instance her version flipped the gender of the lyrics, resulting in it becoming a feminist anthem for the second-wave feminism movement in the 1970s. When asked about her audacious stance amidst the feminist and Civil Rights Movement, Franklin told the Detroit Free Press, "I don't think it's bold at all. I think it's quite natural that we all want respect—and should get it." The song became a hit internationally, reaching number 10 in the UK and helping to transform Franklin from a domestic star into an international one. It earned Franklin two Grammy Awards in 1968 for "Best Rhythm & Blues Recording" and "Best Rhythm & Blues Solo Vocal Performance, Female" and an induction in the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1987. In 2002, the Library of Congress honored Franklin's version by adding it to the National Recording Registry. It was placed number five on the 2004 version of Rolling Stone magazine's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" and number one on the 2021 version of the list. . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musiclover #musicmonday #arethafranklin #otisredding #respect #randb #dogslovemusictoo #corgi #corgisofinstagram #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

Happy Friday!! This is my 666th post which couldn't be more perfect for today's song choice. On 26th April 1982 the band Iron Maiden released "The Number of the Beast", their 2nd single from their album of the same name. The song's writer, bassist and band-founder Steve Harris, was inspired by a nightmare he had after watching the film Damien: Omen II late at night; as well as the poem "Tam o' Shanter" by Robert Burns. The song opens with a spoken word passage, read by English actor Barry Clayton, which quotes Revelation 12:12 and Revelation 13:18. According to lead vocalist, Bruce Dickinson, the band originally asked Vincent Price to read the intro, but they decided to hire Clayton instead after Price refused to do it for anything less than £25,000. The track is known for its very long, high-pitched and guttural wail at the end of the intro, which AllMusic describes as "the most blood-curdling Dickinson scream on record". In the "Classic Albums" documentary based on "The Number of the Beast" album, Dickinson states that it came about through frustration with producer Martin Birch, who forced him to sing the introduction repeatedly for hours on end. The song caused controversy in the US where its religious subject matter caused outrage amongst religious groups. In spite of this, it remains one of the band's more popular songs, reaching No. 18 in the UK singles charts on its original release. . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musiclover #rockmusic #fridayrocks #schoolofrock #musichistory #ironmaiden #thenumberofthebeast #666thpost #rockerdog #dogslovemusictoo #corgi #corgisofinstagram #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

On April 21st 2003, Maverick and Warner Bros Records released "American Life", the ninth studio album by Madonna. The album, produced by the singer and Mirwais Ahmadzaï, is a concept album panning the American Dream and materialism. It is a folktronica and eurotechno album, influenced by acoustic music. Though the album received mixed reviews upon release, it reached number one in 14 countries, including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States. In 2005, Madonna acknowledged "American Life" as her lowest-selling album in her career up to that point, but referred to it as one of her catalog's favorite records. Four singles were released from "American Life". The title track was released digitally (March 24th 2003) as the lead single to a generally negative critical reception, with Blender naming it the ninth worst song of all time. In the United States, "American Life" charted at number 37 and became the first song ever to chart based on internet sales alone. It reached number one in Canada, Denmark, Italy, and Switzerland, and the top ten in Australia. The song peaked at number two in the UK. In April 2003, Madonna discussed her motivations behind "American Life". She stated: "[The song] was like a trip down memory lane, looking back at everything I've accomplished and all the things I once valued and all the things that were important to me. What is my perspective now? I've fought for so many things, I've tried so hard to be number one and to stay on top, to look good, to be the best. And I realized that a lot of things that last and the things that matter are none of those things." In America, more than any other place in the world, you have the freedom to be anything you want to be. Which is all well and good, but it only works if you have a value system – and we seem not to have one anymore. It's, 'Whatever it takes to get to the top, that's what you gotta do.'" . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musichistory #musiclover #musicmonday #folktronica #madonna #americanlife #dogslovemusictoo #corgi #corgisofinstagram #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

"I Predict a Riot" by English indie rock band Kaiser Chiefs, is my rock song choice this week. Taken from their debut album, "Employment" (2005), the song was originally released as their second single on 1st November 2004 and was the band's first release on the B-Unique label. It entered the UK Singles Chart at number 22. When re-released in 2005 as a double A-side with "Sink That Ship", it peaked at number nine on the UK chart. The song portrays a rowdy night out in the band's native Leeds. Drummer Nick Hodgson used to DJ at a club in Leeds called the Cockpit. He would often drive home past another nightclub called Majestyk's which often had people and police fighting each other, and sometimes drunk club goers would even bang on the windows of his car at 3 am. He took inspiration from this one night and wrote a riff on the piano when he got home. The title came from an event Hodgson DJ'ed at a different club called Pigs, where a band called Black Wire was playing. The crowd was so chaotic that he said to the club's boss, "I predict a riot". The Kaiser Chiefs originally formed in 1996 as "Runston Parva", before reforming as "Parva" in 2000. Under the name Parva they released one studio album, "22" in 2003. They renamed themselves Kaiser Chiefs later that same year. Since their formation, the band has consisted of lead vocalist Ricky Wilson, guitarist Andrew "Whitey" White, bassist Simon Rix, keyboardist Nick "Peanut" Baines and since 2013 drummer Vijay Mistry, who replaced founding drummer Nick Hodgson following his departure from the band in late 2012. . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musiclover #musichistory #rockmusic #britishrockmusic #kaiserchiefs #ipredictariot #schoolofrock #dogslovemusictoo #rockerdog #corgi #corgisofinstagram #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

My song choice this Monday is "Back to Black" by English singer/songwriter Amy Winehouse. Written by Winehouse and Mark Ronson, who also produced the track, it was released on 26th April 2007 by Island Records. It was the third single from her second and final studio album of the same name (2006). The track was recorded in three studios – Chung King Studios and Daptone Studios located in New York City and Metropolis Studios in London. The song explores elements of old school soul music. Its sound and beat have been described as similar to girl groups from the 1960s. The song was inspired by Winehouse's relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil, who had left her for an ex-girlfriend, leaving her going to "black," which the listener may take to be drinking and depression. Speaking to CNN in 2007 about the track, Winehouse said: "Back To Black is about being in a relationship that when it's finished you go back to what you know, except I wasn't working so I couldn't go and throw myself back into work. And where the guy obviously went back to his ex-girlfriend, I didn't really have anything else to go back to so I guess I went back to a black for a few months, you know... Doing silly things, as you do when you're 22 and you're young and in love." The song's music video was shot in black and white with Winehouse and her troupe clad in black attending her funeral. One scene shows a headstone which reads: "Here lies the heart of Amy Winehouse". This tragically portentous inscription was edited out of the video after Amy's death in 2011. Considered by critics to be one of Winehouse's signature songs, the single peaked at number eight on the UK Singles Chart following her death in 2022 and is Winehouse's third best-selling single in the UK. At its original release in 2007 the single peaked at number 25 in the UK. In Greece it was number 1 and it reached the top ten in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musicmonday #musiclover #90smusic #amywinehouse #amywinehouseforever #backtoblack #randb #soulmusic #forever27 #dogslovemusictoo #corgi #corgisofinstagram #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

On the 9th April 1984, American rock band R.E.M. released their second studio album, "Reckoning". My song choice today is the first single from this album. "So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry)" was released in May 1984. R.E.M. performed a rough version of the song on the NBC television show Late Night with David Letterman on October 6, 1983—before the song had a title—in what was the band's first U.S. network television appearance. "So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry)" became the second R.E.M. single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 85. The song is about a man trying to call a girl and apologise for some unnamed wrong. The two never connect, for various reasons – he’s waiting for her to call him first, which she never does; the phone lines are down; he’s unable to bring himself to actually apologise. The song was actually based on a failed relationship, lead singer/songwriter Michael Stipe had instigated in the early 80s – as he relates in the April 2008 issue of Spin: "It was about me breaking up a couple – and then dating both of them, a man and a woman, which is a terrible thing to do, but I was young and stupid… At the time I was writing about what I knew, and what I knew was myself. I found out I’m not that kind of writer. I think I’m better when I write about things that are not me." Like many other songs on the album "Reckoning", the song uses the image of water to convey change, erosion, and loss. Today we remember Kurt Cobain, the front man for Nirvana on the 30th anniversary of his death. The news of his suicide back in 1994 shocked the world. "Smells Like Teen Spirit", taken from their 1991 album Nevermind, is probably their most iconic song. It charted high around the world in 1991 and 1992, reaching number one in Belgium, France, New Zealand and Spain. Cobain began writing the song a few weeks before recording Nevermind. He said it was an attempt to write a song in the style of the Pixies, a band he admired. The title derives from a phrase written on Cobain's wall by his friend Kathleen Hanna, singer of the riot grrrl band Bikini Kill: "Kurt smells like Teen Spirit." Hanna meant that Cobain smelled like the deodorant Teen Spirit, which she and Tobi Vail, his then-girlfriend, had discovered during a trip to the grocery store. Cobain said that he was unaware of the deodorant until months after the single was released, and had interpreted it as a revolutionary slogan, as they had been discussing anarchism and punk rock. In 2001, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) ranked the song at number 80 on their Songs of the Century list. In 2002, NME ranked the song the number two on its list of "100 Greatest Singles of All Time", while Kerrang! ranked it at number one on its list of the "100 Greatest Singles of All Time". In 2021, Rolling Stone magazine ranked "Smells Like Teen Spirit" fifth on its list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". My #tunefortuesday is the brand new single by AWOLNATION, "Panoramic View". Aaron Bruno, the founder, lead singer and creative force behind the Los Angles based band recently shared the inspiration behind the track. In an interview he said: “I remember writing this one on a piano almost four years ago. It’s quite a sincere and profound song because I wrote it to my scared little kid that I didn’t even have yet. I have twin boys now but we weren’t pregnant yet when I wrote it. Basically, I’m saying I’ll protect you, everything’s gonna be okay. Back then, we all felt scared in some way, no matter who you were—whether you were fearful of being sick or of how governments were handling it, or how your friends were handling it, personal decisions… During that time, I was lyrically and emotionally conceptualizing the idea of writing songs to a child. And in some ways I was writing songs to comfort a younger version of myself. I guess the point is to remind us that we can always find an escape through music, even at the worst times.” Have a great Tuesday friends. . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musiclover #newmusic #tunesday #alternativeindie #alternativepop #awolnation #panoramicview #aaronbruno #dogslovemusictoo #rockerdog #corgi #corgisofinstagram #corgicommunity #tongueouttuesday #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

Happy Friday friends and fellow music lovers! This week my chosen rock song is an album filler song that became an all-time hard rock classic. "Smoke on the Water" by the English rock band "Deep Purple"was released on their 1972 studio album "Machine Head". Upon completing all their planned material the band realised they were seven minutes short of a full album. Taking their earlier jamming session recorded at a local theatre "The Pavilion", Ian Gillan and Roger Glover quickly penned the lyrics and the band had a throwaway song to pad out "Machine Head" with. The song's lyrics are based on true events, chronicling the 1971 fire at Montreux Casino in Montreux, Switzerland. The casino caught fire during a Frank Zappa concert. The "smoke on the water" that became the title of the song referred to the smoke from the fire spreading over Lake Geneva from the burning casino as the members of Deep Purple watched from their hotel balcony. Bassist Roger Glover said that, "It was probably the biggest fire I'd ever seen up to that point and probably ever seen in my life. It was a huge building. I remember there was very little panic getting out, because it didn't seem like much of a fire at first. But, when it caught, it went up like a fireworks display." Today this throwaway song is considered the band's signature song and the guitar riff is considered to be one of the most iconic. Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore later claimed that the main riff is an interpretation of inversion of Symphony No. 5 by Ludwig van Beethoven, and that "I owe him a lot of money". In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine placed "Smoke on the Water" at number 434 on its list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time". Total Guitar magazine ranked the song's riff at number 4 on its "Greatest Guitar Riffs Ever" list and in March 2005, Q magazine placed it at number 12 in its list of the 100 greatest guitar tracks. In 2017, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musichistory #musiclover #rockmusic #fridayrocks #schoolofrock #greatestguitarriffs #70smusic #deeppurple #smokeonthewater #dogslovemusictoo #rockerdog #corgisofinsta #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

My song choice this Tuesday is "Too Sweet" by Hozier. The Irish singer/songwriter released the song on 22nd March 2024 as the first track from his fifth EP "Unheard". The EP features four previously unreleased tracks taken from the recording sessions for his third studio album "Unreal Unearth" (2023). All four songs are great but "Too Sweet" is definitely my favourite. On 25 March 2003 Linkin Park released their second studio album "Meteora". The nu-metal album featured the singles "Numb", "Breaking The Habit", "Somewhere I Belong", "Faint", "From the Inside" and “Lying from You” which was released in March 2004 as a promotional single. The album was produced by the band alongside Don Gilmore. The title Meteora is taken from the Greek Orthodox monasteries originally bearing the name. "Meteora" has a similar sound to their previous album "Hybrid Theory" and took almost a year to be recorded. It is the first Linkin Park studio album to feature bassist Dave "Phoenix" Farrell after he rejoined the band in 2000 following his temporary touring with other bands. "Meteora" debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling over 810,000 copies in its first week. Today it is one of the best-selling albums of the 21st century. It was certified 8× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It was ranked number 36 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums of the 2000s. My song choice this Monday is "Numb. It was released as the third single from "Meteora" and is the closing track on the album. One of Linkin Park's most well-known and critically acclaimed songs, "Numb" topped the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart for 12 weeks in 2003 and 2004. The song also spent three weeks atop the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. In the UK the single peaked at number 14. In Australia it peaked at number 10 and in New Zealand, number 13. In France it spent 23 weeks on the chart, peaking at number 19 and it topped the singles chart in Greece. Happy Friday friends! Have a great rock tune for you this week. Featured on their sixth studio album "Physical Graffiti" (1975), Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir" became a concert staple, performed at almost every concert following it's release. "Kashmir" originally titled "Driving To Kashmir", was written by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant with contributions from John Bonham over a period of three years. The lyrics were written by Plant immediately after Led Zeppelin's 1973 US tour. None of the group members had visited Kashmir. Instead, Plant was inspired during a drive through a desolate desert area of southern Morocco. In 2021 Rolling Stone magazine placed "Kashmir" at number 148 on its 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list. . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musichistory #musiclover #schoolofrock #rockmusic #ledzeppelin #kashmir #physicalgraffitialbum #70smusic #jimmypage #robertplant #dogslovemusictoo #rockerdog #corgi #corgisofinstagram #corgicommunity #corgismile #friyay #fridayrocks #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

On 19th March 1990, Depeche Mode released "Violator", their seventh studio album. Preceded by the singles "Personal Jesus" and "Enjoy the Silence", the album propelled the band into international stardom. The album which also produced the singles "Policy of Truth" and "World in My Eyes", reached number two on the UK Albums Chart, and was the band's first album to chart inside the top 10 of the Billboard 200, peaking at number seven. "Personal Jesus" is my song choice today. It was released on the 29th August 1989, reaching number 13 on the UK Singles Chart and number 28 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The single was their first to enter the US top 40 since 1984's "People Are People" and was their first gold-certified single in the US. In Germany, "Personal Jesus" is one of the band's longest-charting songs, staying on the West German Singles Chart for 23 weeks. According to songwriter Martin Gore, the song was inspired by the book Elvis and Me by Priscilla Presley. Another point of interest is that it was the first time a guitar was used as a dominant instrument in a Depeche Mode song. In 2004, "Personal Jesus" was ranked No. 368 in Rolling Stone's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" and in September 2006 it was voted as one of the "100 Greatest Songs Ever" in Q magazine. . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musiclover #tunefortuesday #tunesday #80smusic #depechemode #personaljesus #violatoralbum #greatestsongs #dogslovemusictoo #corgi #corgisofinstagram #corgicommunity #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

The single is about repressed feelings, and how they bubble up to the surface and hit you 'like a sucker punch'. In 1967 the Velvet Underground released their debut album entitled "The Velvet Underground & Nico". The record was a commercial failure upon release and almost entirely ignored by critics at the time. Today, however the album is recognised as one of the most influential albums in music history My music choice today from this album, is "Heroin". Written by Lou Reed in 1964, it deals with heroin use and its effects. It is probably one of the band's most celebrated compositions. In 2004, it was ranked at number 448 on Rolling Stone's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" and was re-ranked at number 455 in 2010. . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musichistory #tunefortuesday #tunesday #musiclover #avantgarderock #thevelvetunderground #thevelvetundergroundandnico #loureed #60smusic #dogslovemusictoo #rockerdog #corgi #corgisofinstagram #corgicommunity #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

To celebrate International Women's Day my song choice for this School of Rock Friday is "Edge of Seventeen" by American singer/songwriter Stevie Nicks. Released on February 4th, 1982 as the third single from her debut solo studio album Bella Donna (1981); it is one of Nick's most enduring and recognisable songs. The song's title, according to Nicks, came from a conversation she had with Tom Petty's first wife, Jane, about the couple's first meeting. Jane said they met "at the age of seventeen", but Jane's strong Southern accent made it sound like "edge of seventeen" to Nicks. She liked the sound of the phrase so much that she told Jane she would write a song for it and give her credit for the inspiration The lyrics were written by Nicks to express the grief resulting from the death of her uncle Jonathan and the murder of John Lennon during the same week of December 1980. Nicks' producer and lover Jimmy Iovine was a close friend of Lennon. The opening lyrics were inspired by a menu Nicks was reading at a Phoenix restaurant in 1980, which said, "The white wing dove sings a song that sounds like she’s singing ooh, ooh, ooh. She makes her home here in the great Saguaro cactus that provides shelter and protection for her…". "Edge of Seventeen" peaked at number 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks in April 1982. The live version on the B-side reached number 26 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart. The original album version of the song had previously made the top five of Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart in 1981, peaking at number 4. "Edge of Seventeen" also peaked at number 11 on the RPM Top 100 Singles chart in Canada. In 2021, it was ranked number 217 on Rolling Stone's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time". Written by Manson and Tyler Bates, the song was later released as an airplay-only promotional single in the United States on March 6th, 2018. It peaked at number 35 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Chart, making "Heaven Upside Down" his first album since 1998's "Mechanical Animals" to contain more than one charting song on Mainstream Rock. Its preceding single "Kill4Me", peaked at number 5 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Chart. My first music recommendation this week is "Inevitable Incredible" by Kelly Jones. Just days ago Jones the lead vocalist/guitarist of the rock band Stereophonics, officially announced the upcoming release of his solo album, "Inevitable Incredible," scheduled to drop on May 3. This brand-new studio album sees Kelly Jones writing primarily on the piano for the first time. It was recorded on a remote island in Norway in just 6 days. Featuring eight cinematic songs with live vocals, piano and orchestral strings the album explores emotion and vulnerability. According to a press release, the songs were born from “material he never set out to create, but knew he needed to see through to completion, and complete quickly to capture the raw essence of what he’d created”. To announce the new LP, Jones shared the moving title track – a stripped-back yet cinematic song that captures the essence of the upcoming album. Give it a listen. On the 1 March 1973, the English rock band Pink Floyd released their eighth studio album. Developed during live performances, "The Dark Side of the Moon" explores themes such as conflict, greed, time, death, and mental illness. A concept album that would propel the band to super stardom, it is among the most critically acclaimed and often features in professional listings of the greatest albums of all time. The album was promoted with two singles: "Money" and "Us and Them". "Money" was written by Roger Waters. The lyrics avoid more typical Pink Floyd themes, instead criticising crass materialism. The single has been described as progressive rock, blues rock and hard rock. Much of the song has a distinctive 7/4 time signature along with a tape loop of ringing cash registers and jingling coins. The song opened side two of the original album and was released as a single on 7th May 1973. It became the band's first hit in the US reaching number 10 in Cash Box magazine and number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also topped the charts in France and was a top ten hit in Austria. In 2008, Guitar World magazine listed David Gilmour's solo on "Money" as number 62 among readers' votes for "The Greatest 100 Guitar Solos." The song was also ranked number 69 on the Rolling Stones magazine's list of "The 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time". . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musichistory #musiclover #fridayrocks #schoolofrock #rockmusic #hardrock #bluesrock #pinkfloyd #thedarksideofthemoon #moneysingle #moneypinkfloyd #70smusic #britishrock #rockerdog #dogslovemusictoo #corgisofinstagram #corgicommunity #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

My #tunefortuesday this week is "Ironic" by Canadian singer Alanis Morissette. It was released on 27th February 1996 as the third single from her third studio album "Jagged Little Pill". The song was written by Morissette and Glen Ballard, who also produced it. Presenting various situations that are described as ironic, the song's lyrics have lead to much debate on the accepted meaning of irony. The track was a commercial success, topping the Canadian RPM 100 Hit Tracks chart and also reaching the top five in Australia, New Zealand, and Norway. In the United States on the 13th April 1996, the song reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100. In the United Kingdom on 20th April 1996, "Ironic" debuted and peaked at number 11. The song won the Juno Award for Single of the Year, and received two Grammy Award nominations in 1997, for Record of the Year and Best Short Form Music Video. "Three Little Birds" is perhaps Bob Marley's most well known hit, though its title is often thought to be "Don't Worry About a Thing" or "Every Little Thing is Gonna Be Alright", because of the prominent and repeated use of these phrases in the chorus. Released as a single in 1980, it is the fourth track on side two of Bob Marley and the Wailers 1977 album "Exodus". Bright, optimistic and cheery, you can't help but feel uplifted after listening to this reggae song. The inspiration behind the song is much disputed. It tells the story of Marley encountering three little birds on his windowsill but could it be a reference to the "I Threes": a female Jamaican singing group. Judy Mowatt, Marcia Griffiths, and Bob’s own wife Rita Marley, were originally Bob’s backup band, but each became accomplished reggae solo artists and social activists. Some have suggested that the three little birds represent the presence of the Holy Trinity - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It has also been suggested that Marley was using birds as a metaphor for the way Jamaicans grew cannabis. "Three Little Birds" reached the Top 20 in the UK, peaking at number 17. Happy Friday friends. Are you ready for another rockin weekend? 😎🤪 My song choice this Friday is "Time of the Season" by the British rock band the Zombies. The band originally formed in St Alban's in 1961 briefly under the name the "Mustangs". Led by keyboardist/vocalist Rod Argent and vocalist Colin Blunstone, the group had their first British and American hit in 1964 with "She's Not There". In the US, two further singles were also successful: "Tell Her No" in 1965 and "Time of the Season" in 1968. "Time of the Season" featured on the band's 1968 swansong album "Odessey and Oracle". Written by keyboard player Rod Argent, it was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in September 1967. Today it is recognised as one of the band's most popular songs and an iconic hit of 1960s psychedelia. However, it's success was originally slow to materialise. It did not become a hit until over a year after its original release, rising to number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Cashbox chart in 1969. In Canada it reached number one but did not chart in the UK despite being re-released twice. Following the belated success of the "Time of the Season" in the States, the original band members declined to regroup for concerts. So in order to capitalise on the song's success two fake Zombie line-ups were created and toured simultaneously in 1969. One group was from Michigan and the other was from Texas. The Texan line-ups included bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard, who would go on to be members of ZZ Top. Creating fake bands like this was not unusual at the time. Delta Promotions, the agency behind this particular scheme also created fake versions of "The Animals" and "The Archie's". Kicking off your Monday morning with an absolute belter from David Bowie. Released in the UK on 16th February 1974 "Rebel Rebel" is now 50 years old. It was released by RCA Records as the lead single from the album "Diamond Dogs". Written and produced by Bowie, the song is based around a distinctive guitar riff reminiscent of the Rolling Stones. Two versions of the song were recorded: the well-known UK single release and the shorter US single release, which featured added background vocals, extra percussion and a new arrangement. The song was a commercial success, peaking at number five on the UK Singles Chart and number 64 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Originally planned in late 1973 as part of an aborted Ziggy Stardust musical, "Rebel Rebel" was Bowie's last single in his signature glam rock style. It was also his first hit since 1969 not to feature lead guitarist Mick Ronson; Bowie played guitar himself on this and almost all the other tracks on the Diamond Dogs album. Following Bowie's death in 2016, Rolling Stone listed "Rebel Rebel" as one of his 30 essential songs. It certainly ranks as one of my favourite Bowie songs. It's Friday! Ready for another School of Rock lesson? I have something a bit different for you this week. Listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's shortest recorded song, "You Suffer" is just 1.316 seconds long. The track is by the British grindcore band "Napalm Death" from their debut studio album "Scum" released in 1987. The song was written by Nicholas Bullen, Justin Broadrick, and Mick Harris. In 1989, "You Suffer" appeared on one side of a 7" single given away free with copies of a compilation album entitled "Grindcrusher". The song on the other side, "Mega-Armageddon Death Part 3" by the Electro Hippies, also lasts approximately one second, making the disc the shortest single ever released. Each side featured one groove at the outer edge of the disc containing the music, with the rest of the surface containing etched writing and cartoons. The lyrics of the song are officially listed as: "You suffer.... But why?" Personally all I can hear is "Raaaaah!" 🤣 In March 2023, Rolling Stone ranked the song at number 72 on their "100 Greatest Heavy Metal Songs of All Time" list. Why?!? Not really my idea of music but it did make me laugh 😂 If you want to hear the song you can find it on my stories. Let me know if you can hear the lyrics better than I could. "Valentine" is an anthem about the agony of lost love. The song by Italian rock band Måneskin was released on the 10th November 2023 as the second single from Rush! (Are U Coming?), the reissue of the band's third studio album Rush! The four Måneskin band members wrote "Valentine" alongside Theo Hutchcraft, the lead singer of the English electronic duo Hurts and British songwriter and producer Joseph Wander. The song features a slow rock melody and a more ballad style than their other songs. Lead vocalist Damiano David, singing in English, croons of a relationship that has ended but has left behind a lingering desire to reconnect, and the terrifying prospect of never being able to. Fans speculated that "Valentine" is David's post-mortem on his split with his partner of five years, Italian model and influencer Giorgia Soleri. . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musiclover #italianrockband #måneskin #valentine #valentinesday #damianodavidmåneskin #dogslovemusictoo #corgi #corgisofinstagram #dogsofinstagram #love #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

Did you know David Bowie wrote a song called "Valentine's Day"? Released on 19th August 2013 from his 25th studio album "The Next Day", this was to be Bowie's final 7-inch single issued from a new album released in his lifetime. The backing track for the song was recorded on 24th July 2012 at the Magic Shop in New York City, while Bowie's vocals were recorded on the 18th September 2012 at Human Worldwide Studios in New York City. Despite what its title suggests, this song is not about love and romance. It's widely believed that the song actually refers to a University shooting in Northern Illinois which took place on Valentine's Day in 2008. Tony Visconti, the song's producer, once described it as "related to people who go postal, about people who acquire a gun and do awful things with it." . . . . . . #musicmonday #musicrecommendation #musiclover #davidbowie #davidbowieforever #bowiefan #valentinesday #thenextdayalbum #musichistory #dogslovemusictoo #rockerdog #corgi #corgisofinstagram #dogsofinstagram #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

Yay it's Friday! Time for another School of Rock post. 🤘🎸 As it's nearly Valentine's day this week's rock song had to be an epic rock ballad. "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by American hard rock band Aerosmith was the theme song for the 1998 science fiction disaster film Armageddon. It is one of four songs performed by the band for the film, the other three being "What Kind of Love Are You On", "Come Together", and "Sweet Emotion". The power ballad was written by Diane Warren who originally envisioned it would be performed by someone like Celine Dion. Warren was also behind huge songs such as "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" by Starship, "If I Could Turn Back Time" by Cher, "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion, and "How Do I Live" by Leann Rimes. Warren found inspiration for the song from watching an interview where actor James Brolin said that when his wife Barbra Streisand was away, he missed her even when he was sleeping. U2 were in line to record the song for the film Armageddon, but once Liv Tyler was cast, her father Steven Tyler's band Aerosmith were chosen instead. "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" was first released in Japan on July 29, 1998. In the United States, it was originally supposed to be a radio-only single from Armageddon: The Album, but due to popular demand, Columbia Records issued the song commercially in August 1998. The single debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hit 100 chart, the band's first and only number one in their home country. The song also reached the top spot in several other countries including Australia, Ireland and Norway. In the UK it reached number four, having sold over one million copies. In 1998 the song was nominated for an Oscar as Best Original Song but lost to "When You Believe" from "The Prince Of Egypt". "Don't Let Me Down" by American duo the Chainsmokers was released on 5th February 2016. It features vocals from American singer Daya who was just 17 at the time. The song was originally intended for Rihanna but her team rejected it. Daya was chosen as the vocalist from her 2015 debut single "Hide Away". The key of the song was originally a step lower, but the duo changed it in order to better accommodate Daya's range. "Don't Let Me Down" became both the Chainsmokers' and Daya's first top-five single on the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number three. It also became the Chainsmokers' second consecutive top 10 entry after "Roses", which peaked at number six. It reached the top 10 in several countries, including Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. The song also won a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording. Rolling Stone magazine named "Don't Let Me Down" one of the 30 best songs of the first half of 2016. . . . . . . #musicmonday #musicrecommendation #musiclover #edm #electronicdancemusic #thechainsmokers #daya #dontletmedown #dancemusic #dogslovemusictoo #corgi #corgisofinstagram #corgicommunity #dogsofinstagram #dogoftheday #tuneoftheday #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

It's Friday and time for our first School of Rock lesson 🤘🎸🤘 One of my favourite rock songs "Immigrant Song" by Led Zeppelin was included in the soundtrack for "School of Rock" - but Led Zeppelin had originally denied the director, Richard Linklater permission to use it. Jack Black was able to convince them by videotaping himself singing in front of a huge crowd, begging Led Zeppelin to let them use the song in the movie. The song was written by Robert Plant during Led Zeppelin's tour of Iceland, Bath and Germany in the summer of 1970. The "land of ice and snow" refers to Iceland. Robert Plant explained: "We weren't being pompous. We did come from the land of the ice and snow. We were guests of the Icelandic Government on a cultural mission. We were invited to play a concert in Reykjavik and the day before we arrived all the civil servants went on strike and the gig was going to be canceled. The university prepared a concert hall for us and it was phenomenal. The response from the kids was remarkable and we had a great time. 'Immigrant Song' was about that trip and it was the opening track on the album that was intended to be incredibly different." Six days after Led Zeppelin's appearance in Reykjavik, the band performed the song for the first time in concert during the Bath Festival. One of the lyrics became part of Led Zeppelin lore. The line, "The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands" got many of their fans referring to Zeppelin's sound as the "hammer of the gods." "Immigrant Song" is one of Led Zeppelin's few releases on the 45 rpm single format. It was issued in the US on 5 November 1970 by Atlantic Records. First pressings of the US single have a quote from Aleister Crowley inscribed in dead wax by the run-out groove: "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law." My #tunefortuesday is "Bury a Friend" by American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish. Released on 30th January 2019, it is the third single from her debut studio album, "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?" The song was written in Chicago by Eilish alongside her brother Finneas O'Connell, who was also the producer. In the studio Eilish showed her brother what she wanted the song to sound like by drawing a black monster. Within the dark and violent lyrics, Eilish sings from the perspective of a monster under someone's bed. The song has been described as synth-pop, electronica, electropop and industrial. Suzy Exposito of Rolling Stone called it "goth-R&B" reminiscent of Marilyn Manson's "Antichrist Superstar" (1996). It is a moderately fast song at 120 beats per minute and is written in the key of G minor. In the US the song debuted at number 74 on the Hot 100 chart. By the end of its first full week it was at number 14 with 29.1 million streams and 18,000 downloads sold. In the UK the single reached number 6, her first top ten hit in the country. The song also peaked within the top ten in countries such as Canada, Australia and New Zealand. In Sweden and Latvia it reached the number one spot. The song has been used in many film, video game and TV productions. The latest is True Detective: Night Country where the song is used as the theme tune. My song selection this Monday was once described as "one of the most beautiful songs ever written". Released in January 1996, George Michael's "Jesus to a Child" was written as a tribute to his late lover Anselmo Feleppa. It was the first single from his third studio album, Older. The song peaked at number one in Australia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Norway and Spain. In the United Kingdom, it was Michael's sixth UK number one and his third as a solo performer. The single also reached the top three on several other European charts and peaked at number seven on the US Billboard Hot 100. After Michael's death in 2016, Dame Esther Rantzen, founder of the charity ChildLine, revealed that Michael had secretly donated all of the single's royalties to the charity. She said "George helped us to reach out to hundreds of thousands of children through his generosity. I met him a couple of times, he approached us, rather than us going cap in hand to him, but it was an intensely personal gift. He didn’t want it to be known or to be part of his image." Sticking my tongue out at this wet, windy weather. 🌧️🌬️ Still, it's ideal weather for today's tune. On 23 January 1976 David Bowie released his tenth studio album "Station to Station". Widely regarded as one of his most significant works, the album was the vehicle for Bowie's persona the Thin White Duke. "Station to Station" was a transitional album for Bowie, developing the funk and soul of "Young Americans" while presenting a new direction influenced by electronic music and the German music genre of krautrock. Preceded by the single "Golden Years", "Station to Station" was a commercial success, reaching the top five on the UK and US charts. My #tunefortuesday this week is the final track on the "Station to Station" album. "Wild Is the Wind" was written by Dimitri Tiomkin and Ned Washington for the 1957 film of the same name. Johnny Mathis recorded the original song and released it as a single in November 1957. Bowie's cover of "Wild Is the Wind" came about as a tribute to Nina Simone after meeting her in LA in 1975. Simone had also recorded a cover of the song in 1966. Bowie performed the song as his opening number at the Glastonbury Festival June 25th 2000. He also performed the song with Mike Garson on piano in November 2006 for the Black Ball charity concert in New York. This concert was Bowie's final stage performance. . . . . . . #tunesday #musicrecommendation #musiclover #musichistory #davidbowie #70smusic #ninasimone #stationtostation #wildisthewind #bowiealbums #dogslovemusictoo #rockerdog #tongueouttuesday #corgi #corgisofinstagram #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

On this day (January 22nd 1959) Buddy Holly made his final recordings in his New York apartment. Using just an acoustic guitar and a tape recorder, Holly recorded the songs "Peggy Sue Got Married," "Crying, Waiting, Hoping," "That's What They Say," "What To Do, " Learning The Game" and "That Makes It Tough." The next day Buddy Holly and his band embarked on The Winter Dance Party Tour. Less than a fortnight later Holly would be killed in a plane crash, alongside Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper. Buddy Holly was only 22 years old. His final recordings were overdubbed and released posthumously by Coral Records. "Peggy Sue Got Married" was released as a 45-rpm single with "Crying, Waiting,Hoping" in July 1959. Written by Buddy Holly, the song refers to his 1957 hit song "Peggy Sue," making it one of the first sequels of the rock era. . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musicmonday #musichistory #musiclover #50smusic #buddyholly #buddyhollyandthecrickets #peggysuegotmarried #rockmusic #dogslovemusictoo #rockerdog #corgi #corgismile #corgisofinstagram #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

Today is sometimes referred to as Blue Monday. We're half way through January, the Christmas festivities are over and it's cold outside. Yep it can be a bit depressing. But let us put some cheery music on instead and turn our frowns upside down. My music selection today is "Feeling Good" by English alternative rock band Muse. Recorded for the band's second album "Origin of Symmetry" (2001), it was released alongside the art punk song "Hyper Music" as a double A-side single on 19 November 2001. "Feeling Good" was originally written by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley for the 1964 musical "The Roar of the Greasepaint – The Smell of the Crowd". It was later covered by jazz and soul singer Nina Simone. Muse's version reached number 24 in the UK Singles Chart. In 2008 it was ranked as the fifth best cover in a poll by "Total Guitar". In September 2010, with over 15,000 votes, NME ranked it as the greatest cover song of all time, beating The Beatles cover of "Twist and Shout" and "Hurt" by Johnny Cash. A BBC poll in 2014 voted it the ninth best cover ever. In 2003 Muse successfully sued Nescafé for using their version of "Feeling Good" in a television advert without permission. The band donated the £500,000 compensation to Oxfam. . . . . . . #musicmonday #musicrecommendation #musiclover #bluemonday #beatthosejanuaryblues #musictocheermeup #feelgoodmusic #pawsitivity #positivity #covermusic #muse #britishmusic #britishrockmusic #feelinggood #dogslovemusictoo #rockerdog #songstosingalongto #corgi #corgismile #corgisofinstagram #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

"Hallo Spaceboy" by David Bowie is an industrial rock and electronica number. From his 1995 album Outside, the song is strongly influenced by bands such as Nine Inch Nails and the Pixies. Prior to its release as the third and final single from the album "Outside", Bowie commissioned Neil Tennant from the Pet Shop Boys to remix it. The British duo added a disco edge and lyrics referencing the Major Tom character from Bowie's earlier songs "Space Oddity" and "Ashes to Ashes". The single reached number 12 in the UK. As part of his 50th birthday celebrations, Bowie performed the song live alongside the Foo Fighters at Madison Square Gardens, New York on 9th January 1997. . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musiclover #tunefortuesday #tunesday #bowieforever #davidbowie #hallospaceboy #outsidealbum #britishmusic #britishrockmusic #musichistory #90smusic #dogslovemusictoo #corgi #corgisofinstagram #dogsofinstagram #rockerdog #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

Tomorrow is Marilyn Manson's 55th birthday. So to celebrate I thought I would share another one of my favourite Manson songs. "Cupid Carries a Gun" was released as the third single from his ninth studio album, "The Pale Emperor" in January 2015. Co-written by Manson and composer Tyler Bates, the lyrics to "Cupid Carries a Gun" were the first written by Manson for "The Pale Emperor" album but it was the final track to be recorded. Tyler Bates was scheduled to begin scoring music for the US television series "Salem" and after watching the opening title sequence to the show, Bates immediately thought of "Cupid Carries a Gun". The track was still in its draft stage when Bates approached Manson with the idea of using the song on the television show. After playing the title sequence to Manson, the pair then began work on the track, developing it from its "draft" stage to the final album version over the course of a single night. The following day, Bates played the song for one of the show's producers, Brannon Braga, who said that it was the "perfect tone and attitude" for Salem. A 51-second portion of the track was first heard as the theme to Salem, which premiered on US television on April 27, 2014, with the song marking Manson's debut as a score composer. . . . . . . #musicrecommendation #musiclover #marilynmanson #happybirthdaymarilynmanson #istandwithmarilynmanson #thepaleemperor #cupidcarriesagun #salemtvshow #rockmusic #americanrockmusic #dogslovemusictoo #rockerdog #corgi #corgismile #corgicommunity #dogsofinstagram #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

The other bonus track was "Everything's Fine". Following high demand from fans for the song to be officially released on streaming services, the band debuted the song live on 15th November at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland. The song would continue to be included on the tour setlist. On 19th December the bonus edition of "Back to the Water Below" was released on all streaming services and platforms. The band presented the release as a Christmas gift, wishing their fans a "Merry Riffmas". Give this pawsome tune a listen. Happy New Year Everyone 🎉🥂🎉 What better song to start the year with than "Happy New Year" by the Swedish group ABBA? With lead vocals by Agnetha Fältskog, the song was originally released as a very limited release single in December 1980. Included on their album "Super Trouper", the song's working title was "Daddy Don't Get Drunk on Christmas Day". In 1999, the English version of the song was re-released for the new millennium, and charted at number 27 in Sweden, number 15 in the Netherlands and number 75 in Germany. In 2008, it was released again in several countries, and charted at number 4 in Sweden, number 11 in Norway and number 25 in Denmark. It re-entered the Swedish and Norwegian charts in 2009 at number 5 in both charts and number 8 in the Netherlands in 2011. It's Christmas Day and my last #musicmonday of the year. "Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy" by David Bowie and Bing Crosby was recorded on 11th September 1977 at ATV Elstree Studios near London as part of Crosby's television special "Bing Crosby's Merrie Olde Christmas". The musical supervisors on the show, Ian Fraser and Larry Grossman, originally intended the duo to record a straightforward rendition of "The Little Drummer Boy". Bowie however had misgivings about singing the piece as he did not feel it was right for his voice and singing style. The counterpoint tune "Peace On Earth" was written by Fraser, Grossman and the show's scriptwriter Buz Kohan specially for Bowie. Working at a piano they found in the studio's basement, it took them just over an hour to complete. Following its broadcast in Christmas 1977 the recording of the duet was unavailable for several years. It wasn't until November 1982 when RCA Records released it as a single. It reached number three on the UK Singles Chart. My tune for Tuesday is "Christmas Wrapping" by American new wave band the Waitresses. First released on ZE Records' 1981 compilation album "A Christmas Record", it later appeared on the band's 1982 EP "I Could Rule the World If I Could Only Get the Parts". It was written and produced by Chris Butler, with vocals by Patty Donahue. This underrated song is told from the perspective of a busy single woman trying not to participate in the exhausting Christmas period, while also trying to finally agree to a date with a man she met earlier in the year. Chris Butler wrote the lyrics in a taxi on the way to the recording studio. He explained that the idea came from "just very much that for years I hated Christmas ... Everybody I knew in New York was running around like a bunch of friends. It wasn't about joy. It was something to cope with." "Christmas Wrapping" was released as a single in the UK in 1981 on Island Records. It did not initially make the charts, but was reissued in 1982 and reached No. 45 on the UK Singles Chart that December. It remains the Waitresses' highest-charting single in the UK. . . . . . . #tunefortuesday #Tunesday #musicrecommendation #christmasmusic #musicforchristmas #newwavemusic #newwave80s #thewaitresses #christmaswrapping #80smusic #dogslovemusictoo #corgi #corgisofinstagram #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi

Upon its original 1973 release, the song peaked at No. 24 on the UK Singles Chart, and it reached a new peak of No. 8 on the same chart in 2019. In the United States, the single reached No. 56 on the Cash Box Top 100 Singles chart and No. 1 on the Billboard Christmas Singles chart. A seasonal favourite on British television is the 1982 animated film "The Snowman". The film is based on the 1978 children's book by Raymond Briggs. The story is about a boy's magical adventure with a Snowman who has come to life. They fly to the North Pole to attend a snowmen party and meet Father Christmas. The song "Walking in the Air" is the theme for this journey. Written by Howard Blake, the song was performed in the movie by Peter Auty, a St Paul's Cathedral choirboy. In 1985 a different version of the song was used in a TV advert for Toys "R" Us. This time the vocals were provided by 14 year old Welsh chorister, Aled Jones. Dubbed the "last Beatles song", "Now and Then" was released on 2 November 2023 as a double A-side single, paired with a remix of the band's first single "Love Me Do". Written and recorded as a solo home demo by John Lennon around 1977, "Now and Then" is a psychedelic soft rock ballad. Lennon left the song unfinished and after his death (1980) the song was briefly considered in 1995 as a Beatles reunion single following "Free As a Bird" and "Real Love" both of which were also based on Lennon's demos. Ultimately the song was shelved for nearly three decades. The final version was completed by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, using overdubs and guitar tracks by George Harrison (who died in 2001) recorded during the abandoned 1995 sessions. McCartney provided additional lyrics to the song and Lennon's voice was extracted from the original demo using a machine-learning-assisted audio restoration technology commissioned by Peter Jackson for his 2021 documentary The Beatles: Get Back. The single topped the charts in the UK, Austria and Germany and reached the top ten in the US, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland and the Netherlands . . . . . . #tunefortuesday #tunesday #musicrecommendation #musiclover #britishmusic #britishband #beatles #nowandthen #thelastbeatlessong #johnlennon #paulmccartney #ringostarr #georgeharrison #dogslovemusictoo #rockerdog #basilthejukeboxcorgi #jukeboxcorgi
