This rekindling of passion has inspired me to reframe the feelings I have towards a system that has failed myself and many others time and time again - into a project/vision that is going to abolish that system and create a safer and more fulfilling future for our next generations. I have had to push myself past my limits in multiple ways to be a part of this collective experience - rage, guilt, shame, fear, self doubt and other limiting beliefs (which has been a healing journey within itself ❤️🩹). All of which has been balanced out with exceptional enrichment of knowledge through deep discussion, incredible personal testimonies, belly busting laughter, heart wrenching tears, expressions of ideas/creativity, nourishment physically through sensational food, meaningful connections and everlasting memories. The company's technology is explicitly marketed for its lethality, with the "Smash Hopperc being described to provide operators with "increased lethality by presenting the best accuracy level in its weight class". Smart Shooter's marketing of its products as "battle tested" on Palestinians during the genocide is common practice amongst the occupation's arms companies. To my dear educators, the self-proclaimed champions of diversity, equity, and inclusion, let’s talk about the paradox that is America. Cecelia Lewis, James Whitfield, Matt Hawn – just a few names in a long list of educators who dared to foster environments of true learning and justice, only to be shown the door. Is this the land of opportunity or the land of selective blindness? And what about our Black students? How are they supposed to reconcile the national anthem’s lofty promises with the harsh truths they face? The MANY black children robbed of their futures by the very ones sworn to protect them. How do we explain this injustice? And let’s not forget the classroom, where even the act of peaceful protest is met with punishment. Attorneys and judicial officials desperately need to have training in being trauma informed and domestic violence and they long term affects it has on a child's psyche. To insinuate that a child will speak out about abuse against a care giver is to not understand dysfunctional family systems, and the fear of repercussions for speaking out. In addition to that a child's mind can hold two truths at once, that they love their parent and that that parent is also abusive . Children who grow up being abused and or witnessing domestic violence, their nervous system is in a state of survival mode and that is all they know . They go into fight flight freeze or fawn that continue with them into adulthood if untreated. Judges and attorneys who do not have this training in understanding narcissistic abuse and trauma are apart of this system that further puts children and safe mothers seeking protection from their abusers further at risk for harm. survivors come to the system trusting in hopes that by speaking their truth they will be protected and liberated from their abusers. So to invalidate their experiences and deny them and their children protection is to continue to enable abusers and their chronic brutality and further perpetuate violence. Additionally it is shameful to the system and all attorneys who take advantage of survivors and financially profit of their vulnerability and desperation to protect their children. To take and take with no resolution, thorough investigation and action is dishonest, disheartening and unacceptable. There has been notable pushback against Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice (DEIJ) initiatives. Where is the resistance coming from? 👉 A misunderstanding of the goals of DEIJ. Some perceive these initiatives as attempts to undermine their hard-earned achievements. Or they may view them through a lens of reverse discrimination, fearing that efforts to increase diversity could disadvantage dominant groups. 👉 A simple resistance to change. DEIJ initiatives often challenge existing power structures and traditional norms, which can evoke discomfort among those wishing to maintain the status quo. Individuals who fear losing perceived advantages, or who believe that their interests are threatened, resist DEIJ efforts as a means of preserving the familiar and the established state of affairs. 👉 Feelings of personal culpability or guilt, resulting in defensiveness. This defensiveness can be rooted in an uneasiness with the idea that one might unknowingly benefit from, or contribute to, a system that perpetuates inequities. We have an important reminder though: ⚠ Addressing systemic issues is not about assigning blame to individuals but rather about collectively working toward creating fairer, more inclusive systems. ⚠ How can we change the framing of DEIJ discussions from misunderstanding, resistance, and defensiveness to open dialogue for opportunities of positive change?
