June is over, July is here, and I'm going on vacation for a while. Why? Well, let's look at how June went and that will explain everything... 1. Write 15k words. Dirty Deals? I hope so. Super secret new project that may turn out to be nothing? Those words started hitting the page this morning... 🚫 2. Walk 285k steps. This works out to 9.5k average. The weather has been great, and walking has been happening. 🚫 3. Dirty Deals is almost half written, it's about time to start working with my cover designer to find the perfect look for this book! 🚫 4. I've been reading a lot lately. Six books is a modest goal. 🏆 5. Decompress. I've been feeling less than creative lately, and I'm hoping that taking some down time will bring back the words. 🚫 I hit one of my five goals - I read 7 books this month. Steps? about 9k per day, but not 9500. Words? Almost 9k total, but well shy of my goal. Well, I survived turning fifty... 😂 May was the final month of teaching for me this term, so between finals and other projects, wrapping up work made for a busy month. So some good things happened, but I definitely didn't hit all my goals. 1. Write 30k words. Woof. I managed slightly over 12k. I've been struggling with figuring out where my current WIP is going, but by the end of the month, I started a new, super secret fun project that has some words flowing and it's also jump starting my ideas for the other book. Whatever works! 2. Walk 280k steps. I made it! 283k steps. I've upped my goal for June so I'll have to work a little harder this month. 3. Promote newsletter. I've signed up for two newsletter promos using my reader magnet; so far, so good. Fingers crossed that it will continue to build. 4. Reading goal was four books. I finished seven, most of which were very enjoyable. 5. Celebrate my 50th. We didn't have big celebrations, but we went out to the movies, and then went to a casino and played poker one Saturday afternoon, which was a lot of fun. Except for my writing goals, it was a really good month. The fact that tomorrow is June 1 freaks me out more than a little. Where is 2022 going?? Classes are officially done, June is my month for course prep for next term, then July and August are vacation (although I do teach two night courses for most of the summer). Time for some accountability. I didn't get as much accomplished in April as I'd hoped, the move and my day job took up most of my available energy! That said, I still had a very productive month. 1. Write 15k words. Hah. Nope. 1280 total. I did spent a lot of time mentally revising Dirty Deals, and I have several pages of notes scribbled down for when I get back to it this month. 2. Walk 250k steps. 🥊 Killed this one. 281,000 steps. 3. 😂 Yeah, I'm still working on final edits for my short story. It WILL be out by mid-May. 4. My list of books I want to read grows faster than I can read them, but I'm aiming for another four books this month. Barely. I did read four books, and DNF'd three others after the first few chapters (two poorly written true crime books, and a romance that didn't capture my attention fast enough). 5. MOVE. If we can be mostly unpacked and settled by the end of April. I will consider it a major success. DONE!! We are unpacked, organized, and even had friends over last night. Even if I didn't hit all my goals, stuff got done, which makes me happy.
