Happy International Migratory Bird Day! Today celebrates the incredible birds throughout the globe that fly hundreds or even thousands of miles every spring to reach their nesting grounds and then make the same trip back to their wintering grounds every fall. Here at Bellevue, hundreds of migrating birds have been arriving over the past month, some of which spent the winter as far away as South America. Some are just passing through on their northward journey, stopping by to eat some of Bellevue's tasty insects before moving on, but others will make their nests right here in the park! The Baltimore Oriole, pictured here, is a bird that nests at Bellevue. This bird flew north from as far as Columbia just to build its nest by Bellevue's pond! Come visit the park and keep an eye out for these gorgeous birds and the incredible hanging basket nests they weave! The first Arbor Day celebration was in Nebraska where more than 1 million trees were planted.
