Back to my pareidolia illustrations this one inspired by some blood stains, (i used to bleed lots from my nose when i was a child and occasionally still do) when I saw the blood I immediately saw this bunny, a self-portrait of myself during the pandemic where I did a lot of binging.. not only from streaming lots of true crime documentaries that reflect on everything that is wrong with humankind that took me on a dark path, but also binge eating which was driven by an insane anxiety… I went to bed at 3 or 4 am each day… I was digesting our terror by watching more terror. “Just one more episode and I’ll stop,” I told myself but couldn’t stop. With reminders in the news last week that it was four years ago that we first went into lockdown, it made me think of some of the photos I took at home. It was the first time in a long time that I’d picked up my camera and photographed us. Our twins were born in one of the lockdowns. This photo was a finalist in the Portrait of Britain awards. I may never be selected for that prize again but I guess this resonated. They didn’t meet many friends or family members for months other than through video calls. This photo from November 2020 is my reminder not to give up. Like most days, I'm sitting in my office, staring at my calendar, in sweatpants---remember that was a thing. But this day was different because I was convincing myself that I NEEDED other people to help me make my vision for @mckissickhealth a reality. I didn't think I could do it alone. I spent the next two years partnering with some people, while other partnerships were less successful. I used a lot of energy and resources on opportunities that became dead ends. But everything I learned has served me well. The people who need to be with you will stay, and those you don't need can be replaced.
