The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) in northeastern Minnesota is at the southern edge of the boreal forest biome that encircles the entire planet. The oldest trees in the BWCAW are over 1000 years old. While trail clearing with BWAC, you will likely encounter the following tree species commonly found in the southern boreal forest: jack, red, and white pines; quaking aspen; paper birch; black spruce; balsam fir; and white cedar. A child and her grandparents attend a very special party—out in the wilderness at night, where the can enjoy the quiet hum of nocturnal life and a stunning view of the night sky. 📘📙📕📗 This would be a wonderful book to read before a camping trip or vacation to a dark sky sanctuary. Each spring and fall our experienced, committed crew leaders organize all-volunteer wilderness trail maintenance trips in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. This work is done through a partnership with the @u.s.forestservice - Superior National Forest. It’s time for volunteers like YOU to talk to a crew leader about what trip you’re interested in!
