Swipe to see a cat named Kat ~~~~~ I visited the Bok Tower Gardens yesterday. The weather was close to perfect and I had such a lovely time walking around the gardens. The tower plays music from an instrument called a carillon which, to my understanding, is a group of at least 23 tuned bells that are struck via clappers that are connected to a wooden keyboard similar to a piano. The music totally had Minecraft vibes which was quite interesting and enjoyable to listen to. The gift shop had a bunch of neat items and if you visit these gardens, you should absolutely make a stop at the shop on your way out. ~~~~~ These photos include some beautiful plants I saw while at the gardens (including one that not only looks fuzzy but was indeed soft to the touch), the singing tower itself (including a video of said singing, with the edition of bird songs), a funny picture of a koi fish that lives in the mote around the tower, a butterfly, and lastly a cat named Kat that I believe to be the landlord of an antique store stopped at on the way home. Bok Tower Garden is totally worth the drive! It’s a beautiful historic garden with easy walking paths and amazing plants to see. They even have a plant section in the gift shop, so I picked out a few! I’ll post them later. There have been a fair number of screech owl sightings here recently. Have you ever seen one? Compared to other common owls in the area, like the barred owl or great horned owl, screech owls are very small (about the size of a robin). Despite their name, screech-owls do not screech. Instead, the voice of this species features whinnies and soft trills.

David K. Stabler, the landscape superintendent for Mountain Lake and Mountain Lake Sanctuary (the previous name of Bok Tower Gardens), kept a scrapbook of his time working here between 1923 and 1926. This was years before the Gardens were even open to the public! This photo shows the beautiful view from the top of Iron Mountain, looking west over Mountain Lake.
