I’m very happy to announce that my recent painting ‘I am’ was selected for the Salon des Beaux Arts in Paris. I already explained in an earlier post why I chose this title for the work: this was for me the essence of the model’s charisma while she was posing. It is now as if the painting itself, charged with that strong, positive energy and the mission to make the world more beautiful, will leave for Paris. This gives a very good feeling. League Instructor Natsuki Takauji's (@natsukiuji) sculpture "The Heart of the Tree” is a personification of nature, drawing from Japanese culture and Shintoism and Buddhism. "In Shintoism and Buddhism, there is this image of a tree being wrapped in fabric, and I wanted to capture that with this work," says Takauji. "The tree represent us, humans, with a head and heart pumping into glass fruits with IV drips. I wanted to create a narrative of humans causing harm to ourselves and nature trying to recuperate that damage." This exhibition celebrates League instructor Harvey Dinnerstein (1928–2022) by surveying his practice in the figurative tradition. Create large-scale public sculptures for @NYCParks with the League’s exclusive public sculpture program. Artists working in all mediums are invited to apply. "Works in Public" is a fully-funded program that invites artists to conceive, create, and install site-specific sculptures in partnership with League instructors, advisors, and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. Works in Public participants receive a stipend and a scholarship for a full-time class at the League for the duration of the program. Since its inception, dozens of artists have had their sculptures installed in year-long public exhibitions at Riverside Park South and Riverside Park at 145th Street.
