A few Amtrak train observations at Berkeley during the morning of March 16th, 2024. We happened to get these trains before going to San Leandro Historical Railway Society for an Open House they were having. It was only five Amtrak trains we got unfortunately, not even the Coast Starlight or any goods trains came along either. Trains here consist of Capitol Corridors 724 and 729, San Joaquin trains 712 and 711 and the Eastbound California Zephyr Number 6. We did have some nonsense as well, and I was getting impatient with waiting on 729 and the Zephyr, but it would’ve been fine to get 727 and the Coast Starlight as well. We didn’t see a single goods train this day although some of these services were late. 732 ended up arriving here at 3:50 PM running 52 minutes late due to some problems with the track, and 736 arrived by 5:23 PM because the police were dealing with an incident at the Oakland A’s Coliseum. Yesterday, I went back out to Berkeley to attend a Cal Bears football game on Veterans Day and got some trains on the Martinez Sub at Berkeley in the morning and Emeryville afterwards for the evening rush hour. The first shot of the Eastbound California Zephyr was seen at Chelsey Avenue in Richmond as we forgot our parking pass when we left home, and the other few trains I filmed were at Berkeley with Amtrak San Joaquins 711 and 712, Capitol Corridor 729 and 3 UP engines running lite, as we realized the spot in Richmond was not safe. Note to self, do not get rail activity in Richmond again since it is not a safe city. Something that did impress me though was that Amtrak Capitol Corridor 729 also had some California Golden Bears fans onboard, although 712 didn’t have the ditchlights flashing. Go Bears! A rare breed of Amtrak California train cars indeed, and for good reason. Here we have a 2002 Alstom Bi-Level car Number 6964. It may look the same as all the other cars on the San Joaquins line, but this car is actually a newer Surfliner car, similar to those built for the Pacific Surfliner route in Southern California. Twelve cars were built for the Capitol Corridor and San Joaquins lines, while the rest of the Surfliner cars operate on the Pacific Surfliner only. A few more trains I happened to see this morning whilst I was heading out from Emeryville after my mother needed to do something in Oakland. After finishing with one more train there with a friend, we went over to Berkeley to get a few more trains with two San Joaquins coming by along with two GEVOs on BNSF going long hood forward. Trains here consist of Amtrak Capitol Corridor trains 528, 529 and 531 along with Amtrak San Joaquin 711 and 712. It was rather uncalled for to see the ES44 duo going long hood forward on the powermove, although we did see a bunch of papers with nature photos scattered all over the platform. On the other hand, I was concerned a bit because I kinda almost thought a young child who was there with a toy steam locomotive and their parents was about to be too close to the yellow line when 711 and 712 came by. There was also some issues with the track which resulted in 528 coming here 35 minutes late, and I think 711 and 531 were both late due to congestion. The infamous Cypress Ave..the only street I've lived on twice Back in 2004-2007 and then again in 2016-2018. Both times were cockroach infested hell.. living with my mom(rip) and the animals(Gabby, Pepper, Sissy cats and Qinto dog RIP all) and then my roomie in a cramped apartment.. Its a street where the #unionpacificline and the #amtrakcapitolcorridor run parellels and was gritty til Hayward started gentrifying. Got a few Amtrak trains when it was wet outside today around the noon hour in Martinez whilst my mom had something to do in Walnut Creek. Trains here consist of Capitol Corridors 737 and 728 and San Joaquin 714. When I got here, I noticed that the improvement for this station has been starting off good, although it was somewhat an obstruction for me to get any shots. Annoyingly, as I was trying to film my camera even corrupted a few times for no reason, god I hate when cameras do that! I was almost thinking 737 (photos 1 and 2) was going to avoid calling here from what I saw for the improvement but luckily the train came to a complete stop and was able to depart. However, I did end up yelling at some troublemaker to wait next time when the crossing was in activation as 714 was approaching, and I was like “WAIT FOR THE TRAIN NEXT TIME YOU IDIOT!!”. Decided to stop at the west side of the causeway, where a trail from West Sac on the freeway side continues along the Yolo Bypass. My good friend Sean and I had poor luck finding trains at Elverta due to the recent storm, but we staked out here, the wind gusting modestly, hoping to catch a train. When this train was leaving, we did have some dumb dumb head following me around for no reason saying all this stupid nonsense and whatnot, and after the train left, I even told that woman if she didn’t stop, I would call the sheriff if she refused to get out of my boundaries, so I can say that person was for sure an idiot foamer. Photos here consist of an Eastbound Union Pacific cargo train sneaking up on us being very long with a mid DPU AC44 and baretables, two GP’s running lite, Amtrak San Joaquin 714 with a nice engineer and Capitol Corridors 528, 541 and 532. And yes, 528 was SEVERELY DELAYED today arriving into Martinez up to TWO hours behind schedule due to a fault with the signalling system. Interestingly the driver on 532 definitely honked quite good whilst departing as the horn on 6964 was SO LOUD! Now for the next part of Amtrak trains we got before 160 showed up. After getting some lunch at the Public Market, we came back where we would be there for about a few more hours waiting for the locomotive we were out for. Photos here consist of Capitol Corridor services 538, 540, 542 and 545 along with San Joaquin service 718. The train driver on 545 even did a Shave and a Haircut too which was great! Amtrak Capitol Corridor 732 approaches Track 2 at Emeryville from March 5th, 2022 operating 13 minutes behind time getting cloudy in the afternoon, along with how it ended up getting more disastrous this day. Cabcar 8307 was seen leading this train and SC-44 2124 is trailing at the back. Thought it was cold in the heavy rain? It almost looked like snow! Amtrak Capitol Corridor service 732 with Cabcar 6964 leading seen boarding at Martinez on Christmas Day of 2021 by 3:01 PM which also gave quite a loud but also long horn blast from 6964’s loud, confident and tough sounding K5LA horn as this train was about to come to a complete stop. I'm Ready! Amtrak Capitol Corridor 531 approaches Richmond, California on a nice morning of December 30th, 2019. On this day, there was special events going on at the Levi Stadium where a special Capitol Corridor train 933 would be taking passengers to the Great America station for those events at the stadium, and 531 seen here would terminate at OKJ, in which passengers would get off this train and switch over to the special Capitol Corridor 933 to board to Great America for the events at Levi Stadium.
