I’m beginning a Bible study in Hebrews tonight with a dear friend. Part of this week’s assignment was to read through Hebrews several times - trying to weave together the themes and threads of this beautiful book. . There’s is a lot of mystery in Hebrews and so much depth. But there is a lot of simplicity and clarity in it as well. Here are a few of the themes and deep truths I saw again and again. . Consider how God the Father has endeavored to communicate and draw us to Himself. Consider Jesus, The Beloved Son, Word of the Father, and perfect sacrifice; giving us the opportunity at salvation if we will listen and obey. Consider the Holy Spirit and do not do Him spite, as He is the One who reveals Jesus to us. . Worship Jesus, our great High Priest, who now still speaks as the voice and Word of the Father to us. Be on your guard against an evil and unbelieving heart, lest you harden it and crucify the Son of God afresh and put Him to an open shame. . I asking which of the commandments were greatest, Jesus turned the conversation back to the lawyer, “What is written in the law? What do you read there?” Luke 10:26 NRSV-CI. The man answered with “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”” Luke 10:27 NRSV-CI But then he asked, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus told the parable of the Good Samaritan and said for the young man to “go and do likewise.” You probably could’ve heard a pin-drop in the dust. Sometimes it’s harder for us to do the obvious rather than the obscure. We will go the long way around instead of looking at what really needs to be done. But God doesn’t ask for much. He only wants our hearts, given freely in love. Can we do that? Can we give God our love, our mind as well as our spirit? - The Psalm 96 piece maybe might almost for real be finished! This bad boy is 77 inches wide & 64 inches tall. Working on it has felt a lot like painting, but with carefully culled and cut paper pieces. Cultural bits are bursting from every inch. If you take a close enough peak, you may be able to spot pieces of work by Michelangelo, Van Gogh, Da Vinci, Pollock, Bearden, Rivera, Picasso, Matisse, Kandinsky & many many more. Areas from all over the globe are represented; from Istanbul to Iran, Brazil to Britain & all the in to not-so-in-betweens. This was originally intended to be a much needed backboard to my bed, but has instead found its rightful place in my garage/makeshift studio. - I have this friend that works at a used book store. Oftentimes, they get pallets of books in that have been rejected by thrift stores. They then sort through them to see what they can sell. They get A LOT of old Bibles in these giant bins, MANY of which are unable to be sold. They’ve tried giving them away to different churches, but the churches have stopped taking them too. They require work. A little TLC. And so if they can’t be sold or given to organizations that can pass them along, they end up in the trash. MOST of them end up in the trash. So I asked my friend if he wouldn’t mind sending a few my way. He’s been faithfully bringing me these rescued Holy books ever since. I’ve been so happy to have them for various projects; projects that I hope will help fulfill a dream of making God known through the arts. This is where a couple of them have ended up. I’m calling this my New Testament table (although it includes Psalms and Proverbs too). It reminds me of the verses in Deuteronomy 6 & 11 that speak to keeping scripture at the forefront of every part of one’s existence. For example, Deutoronomy 11:18-21 says: “Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.” The table is definitely not finished yet, but I’m super happy with the progress so far. And most of all, I hope above all hopes that it will draw many a human who use it closer to the Lord through His word for years and years to come.

And no one dared to ask him any more questions. #TheGospelOfTheLord #Meditation Today people try to achieve prosperity and happiness, but at the expense of others, by force of arms, or by relying on gadgets, money, or palliatives. But we must recognize that we cannot be saved without God. Salvation is based on the love of God and is expressed in love of neighbor. The rule of life for Christians is: Love God with all your being, and your neighbor as yourself; see God in your neighbor and also see a little of yourself in your neighbor. We have to convert to God out of love. Have you ever thought about how much you love God? The law tells us that we must love God with all our hearts, with all our minds, with all our strength, but how? What does this mean? The problem of love is always the point of reference. The Christian has Christ as his only point of reference, that is, when we love we have to do it in the same way that he did: even giving his life for the loved one. The commandment expressed by the law and by Christ would imply giving one's life for God, however, let's not go that far, let's ask ourselves today: would we be able to stop doing something that is sinful for the love of God?..👇👇👇

The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.” #TheGospelOfTheLord #Meditation This could explain the classic commentary of the two woods of the Lord's Cross: the upright beam stuck in the soil is the verticality, looking at heaven towards God. The crossbar represents the horizontality, the relations with our fellowmen. In this image there is also a first and a second. The horizontal beam would be at ground level if we did not have the vertical beam. So the more we desire to raise the level of our service to others horizontally, the taller our love for God must go. At the Last Supper Jesus said: “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, by the love you have for one another.” He is speaking not precisely of any kind of love, but of the love with which he himself loved his disciples, that is, a love that reaches the end, that does not set conditions, that sacrifices everything if necessary for others. . This is the love qualified as "with all the heart, with all the soul" and as strong or stronger than the love for oneself, of which today's Gospel speaks. This is a tremendous task for the Christian; task that will never end. "Hilkiah the priest found the Book of the Law of the Lord that had been given through Moses." (2 Chronicles 34:14) Long ago Moses gave the Isrealite people the Book of the Law teaching them the instructions God gave for living holy lives. Moses reminded the people many times of their obligation to live apart from the world, in the way the Lord instructed them. He reminded them also of the path of destruction to come if they turned from God. Generations passed, moving further and further from the Lord, until both Judah and Israel had been exiled; no more than the poorest of people were left in Jerusalem, the promised land. The Bible is not just a story of people's past; but, one meant for teaching and wisdom. If we were smart, we would return to the Word of God, recognizing that people over us in leadership are just people. It is the Lord who is faithful, therefore turn back to Him.
