This was a difficult shoot for me because I was using a Underwater film camera for the first time. It was a Nikon Nikonos V with a Nikkor 35mm 1:2.5 and was synced to underwater strobes. It was heavy and not easy to use. Also we had santa ana winds and it totally dusted the pool too. Having already made some noise working with Dilated Peoples and Rasco, Defari dropped his debut album Focused Daily in early February of 1999. Intriguingly, whereas others in and around the Likwit Crew were putting out music on smaller independent labels like Stones Throw and ABB, Focused Daily was released on the once-mighty Tommy Boy, giving the release some extra clout. What hits hardest on „Focused Daily“ is how confident Defari is on the mic. He possesses a solid and consistent flow that never once wavers or veers from its intent. I've been in this Alkaholiks @thaalkaholiks , Coast II Coast. @tash_of_tha_alkaholiks @jro_alkaholiks @swiftzilla . It would take too long to go on about Tha Alkaholiks in general, and just about this album alone. I got into them when I was in 9th grade, as a little 16 year old, and got this and Likwidation, spring of 2001, and remember replaying Resident Evil 3- Nemesis and playing Dino Crisis, and skateboarding a lot. 9th grade, I got albums from De La Soul, The Pharcyde, Roots, Mos Def, Cypress Hill, Everlast, finally got Wu Tang Forever (which was a huge deal since it was a double disk album that had costed more), Busta Rhymes, Beanie Man-Art and Life, Loud Rocks (was sort of trying to impress my friends who were into music like metal, and various other sub genras of rock (Loud rocks, was remixes of Loud artists, Wu, Mobb Deep, Liks, Xzibit, Dead Prez, Pun, ect), but with bands ranging from Incubus to System of a Down), and that summer got, Pharoahe Monch Internal Affairs, Edo G-The Truth Hurts, Aceyalone, discovered Dilated Peoples, to name a few. I always keep a bunch of CD's on my passenger side, and a lot of them that are in cases are burned copies of albums I have, and every so often, bring some of my actual CD's (I don't have burned copies of every album I have on CD.) If you're familiar with Enter The Dragon, then you might appreciate, Let It All Out. Like I said I could go on and on. There's so many more albums that never get old. Like once I like something, I pretty much never get tired of it. I guess I'm like that Offspring song, I'm not a Trendy Asshole (I'm not trendy, but I might be the second part lol). It was 1996 and my cousin told me he had a friend who’s family had a satellite dish. The first thing that went through my mind was BET - Rap City. I gave him a VHS tape and his friend recorded a couple episodes for me. I remember getting the tape 2 days before heading down to the USA for a trip and saw the video for Paparazzi. It was different, with a symphony playing on the beach and X rapping about fake rappers, it sounded so fresh and I needed to hear it again and again. On the trip I found the single and was extremely excited for the album. It was released in October of 1996 and I had just started business school. This guy that I drove with wanted to go to the mall and it was Tuesday so I was down. That day I picked up At The Speed Of Light and a Mastermind mixtape. What makes it more memorable was while I was buying the music someone stole his car and all our books from school. This guy was so upset and I was too but I had my music and that kept me calmer. The album turned out to be one of my favourites that year and still one I revisit often. Songs like Eyes May Shine, The Foundation and Plastic Surgery are exceptional and laid the foundation from a long career in the game. He also has one of those great voices.
