Our Tuesday night group ended our series on Warrior Women of God this week. We celebrated with good food, flowers for each of the ladies, and sharing about the women in our lives who have walked alongside us and encouraged us--a Warrior Woman of God who believed in us. We also left room for women in the Bible that we can relate to or we aspire to be like, of course. Since the late 1900s groups of pedophiles have been organizing what have been called “grooming gangs” which are exactly what they sound like, systematic human trafficking. In Britain these gangs are typically ran by British-Pakistani men who befriend their victims (victims refers to an individual currently being trafficked, once they are out of their trafficking situation for any amount of time they are referred to as survivors) One of the more well known gangs was in a town in South Yorkshire called Rotherham it was called “the biggest child protection scandal in UK history” at the time Evidence of these gangs was reported in the 90s when care home managers investigated reports that children in their care had been being picked up by taxi drivers In 2010 5 British-Pakistani men were convicted of their crimes however in 2012 a reporter from “The Times” Andrew Norfolk reported that the police in the town had known about the issue for over a decade This article along with similar cases in other towns prompted a national investigation It was found that the reason these crimes were ignored by the police was because they feared being labeled racist Human trafficking is a crime that does not discriminate at any part. The victims and perpetrators come from all walks of life. Rich, poor, male, female, European, African, Asian, American it doesn’t matter We can not allow any group to have a pass just because we are afraid of how we will be seen In response to the Times investigation, the UK’s Secretary of State for the Home Department Priti Patel said she would make it “mandatory for police forces to record the ethnicity of those arrested and held in custody as a result of their suspected involvement in grooming gangs”. #humantrafficking #saveourchidren #groominggangs #stopthedemand

This week our team was able to attend the Level Her Up Conference hosted by the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce. The conference was incredibly empowering on many different levels. We got to hear the perspective of different women as they shared information on physical health, mental health, diversity in the workplace, and financial goals. The schedule even had room to talk through work life balance and staying present with our families.
