Today Hagen fixed our kitchen faucet. He cut his finger in the process. Austra noticed her daddy inspecting his finger and asked what was wrong. When she realized that he had a cut she said, "hold on, I'll go get medicine, I get band-aid, be right back." . Sure enough she returned with Neosporin, a Q-tip and a Paw Patrol band-aid. She started her care with a kiss and then carefully applied the "medicine" to the Q-tip and dabbed it on Hagen's cut with giggles. "It just tickles," she said. Once the wrapper was off the band-aid she had to exclaim what character Hagen got. "It's a Rubble!" . Who taught her to care for others when they are hurt? To be careful, quiet, but also cheerful? Her father. This amazing, compassionate, sharp, kind, defender of the meek man that I have the privilege to call my partner in life, father to my children is also the best dad I could ever imagine. Today I was met with gifts at every turn it seems. A feeling this morning led me to Oly Coffee Roasters downtown and when I got there Delta Dental was buying everyone's coffee AND a delish treat to eat! I'm trying hard to get up a little earlier in the morning-have a little calm and quiet before the tornado that is my kids rise and shine! And while they DO shine and fill my days with so much joy (and sometimes frustration) I am starting to like having 15-20 min to drink my coffee and read in peace! The 6th and final installment of @pinkbike's EB&D/Local Flavors came from one of North America's prettiest nooks in Camden, Maine. It's a region with no shortage of scenic and supremely photogenic spots, and I did my best to get as many as I could. Shots of the harbor from the land and from the sea, early morning fog banks rolling over the coastal mountains, peaking fall foliage, and some stunning trail textures. But for me, one of my favorite shots came 20 miles outside of town and away from the coast. This sentinel tree, alone in a wide open blueberry field captured my imagination throughout my time here, and I would end up grabbing this shot with about an hour of daylight left, late one afternoon. Part of me desperately wanted some creampuff clouds behind the tree to bounce some warm, golden hour light towards the camera, but there's something about how clean this image is that really amplifies the solitude. Oh yeah, you should plan a trip here. I think I have superlatives in my head for every trip I take for this series, and Camden without a doubt has the highest ceiling/potential in terms of terrain out of all of my trips in 2016. Davis, WV was the 3rd stop on this year's tour of @pinkbike East Bound & Down stories. The next in line for my look back at @pinkbike's 2016 collection of East Bound and Downs comes from Reading, PA. Actually, this shot is from a fun and technical network of trails at nearby French Creek State Park. Not as much work for this last light silhouette compared to yesterday's, as we wrapped up our ride and shoot and I had these guys hang out on a bridge for 3 or 4 minutes while I shot this from every possible angle. Sometimes, being a good photographer means slowing down and waiting on what one of my favorite photographers, Henri Cartier-Bresson, called the decisive moment. It's simply a fraction of time that encapsulates the full meaning of the event. This moment between Ashley and Jim does that for me.
