It was founded in 2013 by then ten-year-old Hannah Grubbs, a girl who has been bald her entire life from Alopecia Areata. Hannah lost her hair from Alopecia before she was one year old, and she has real-life, first-hand experience with what it’s like to live without hair. Her mission is to encourage other kids to be comfortable and confident being bald, and to remind them that it is what’s on the inside that really matters. 🌟 Reflecting on an incredible weekend at the @rotaryd5370 Conference, I'm filled with gratitude and inspiration. As the president of @urbanspiritsyeg , it was an honor to participate in such a transformative event alongside fellow Rotarians and community leaders. From the moment Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, took the stage to deliver her opening remarks, I knew we were in for something special. And it just kept going better from there. Throughout the conference, the theme of "Create Hope in the World" resonated deeply with me. 🌿 Today was a day of community spirit and growth! 🌱 Thanks to the Honolulu Sunset Rotary Club and Nurses Creating Aloha, our U.S.VETS Wai'anae residents are one step closer to enjoying a therapeutic garden. With around 25 volunteers lending a hand and approximately 13 residents, including children, getting involved, it was a day filled with teamwork and joy. A jam-packed meeting with dozens of guests! Ashley introduced us to folks with the @honduras.cp and exchanged flags with the Rotary Club of LaPaz. Jeremy Scholtes honored four @hoodcollege_rotaract graduating seniors. Jasmine Sneed shared in our preprogram about the kid zone at the @frederickrescuemission, which our Rotary helped create with a recent grant. The Food Distribution Center provides free groceries in a grocery store-like environment. Volunteers help guests shop for their food items. While parents shop, the children can enjoy a safe and fun play area where volunteers love on them. The grant funded the flooring, tables and chairs, toys and books. We also welcomed Lori Sprecher and Pilar Olivo from Family Connects Frederick County to share @frederickhealth’s newest program to help serve families after the birth of a baby. The “4th trimester” is a critical time for all members of a growing family and this model improves infant health, supports maternal health before the six-week visit when pregnancy related complications occur and reduced health disparities. Our members spent the previous weekend helping our Havertown Rotary friends with their community garden at Ardmore Junction. Mia Broward continues to collect shoes for children in Venezualea and clothes for our friends at Savage Sisters in Kensington.
