Here are a few of our favorite FREE (or cheap) locations to visit: 📍 Battery Spencer (📸 1 & 2) - Parking is limited & this is one of the busiest Golden Gate Bridge viewpoints (for obvious reasons), so we suggest going early on the weekends or during the week 📍 Kirby Beach (📸 3 & 4) - Only accessible by walking or biking down (& back up). We had the entire beach to ourselves & the Golden Gate Bridge is much closer than the picture makes it look 💎 📍 Point Bonita Lighthouse (📸 5) - DON'T MISS THIS! Only open Friday - Monday 12:30 to 3:30 for FREE. If you want to experience sunset, you will have to get tickets for $16. Get tickets at https://www.recreation.gov/ticket/10088963/ticket/10088964 📍 Pier 39 (📸 6) - Famously known for its shops, restaurants, & these hilarious sea lions. This is a great place to people watch & for entertainment. This is also a great place to get information for tours too. We suggest checking Viator for potential discounted prices! 📍 Coit Tower & the insanely steep streets of SF (📸 7) - Coit Tower is a tall lookout tower that sits a few blocks back from Pier 39 & it really is somewhat of a hidden gem! The views from the parking lot are pretty amazing, but if you want to get even better views, take the elevator or stairs to the top for $10 & be prepared for some beautiful Bay Views! Oh, and yes... the hills are crazy steep, especially if you are riding a bike, don't underestimate them 😜 📍 Legion Of Honor Art Museum & the Sutro Baths (📸 8 & 9) - Since we had our bikes and no lock, we couldn't experience the museum sadly, but they have this mini glass structure that looks like the Louvre in Paris. The grounds are stunning, and there are multiple walking paths along the ocean cliff side & an absolutely beautiful golf course. Ze zijn te vinden aan de westkant van de pier, langs de jachthaven, waar ze de drijvende dokken bezetten die speciaal zijn geïnstalleerd om hen te huisvesten. Het is moeilijk te missen, aangezien het geluid van hun gebrul vaak de omgeving vult, en nieuwsgierige toeschouwers aantrekt om een glimp op te vangen van deze majestueuze wezens. ✨ 𝗗𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝘁𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗮𝗻 De iconische zeeleeuwen die de jachthaven van Pier 39 in San Francisco sieren, zijn een onverwacht cadeau voor zowel lokale bewoners als toeristen. Het begon allemaal in de vroege jaren 1990. Enkele zeeleeuwen begonnen de drijvende dokken van de jachthaven te bezetten. Dit werd eerst gezien als een tijdelijke nieuwsgierigheid. Maar tegen het einde van de 1989 waren er al meer dan 300 zeeleeuwen te vinden op de steigers van Pier 39. De verhuizing werd vermoedelijk geïnitieerd door een aardbeving, waarbij de zeeleeuwen een veilig toevluchtsoord zochten in de beschutte wateren van de jachthaven.

Día 2 Costa Oeste🇺🇸: segundo día en San Francisco. Hoy el día amanece con diluvio, frio y viento pero tenemos la excursión a Alcatraz. Un imprescindible si visitas la cuidad, es la segunda vez que la visitamos y sigue poniéndote los pelos de punta. Volvemos al hotel, empapados, pedimos comida asiática y cuando para de llover nos vamos hasta el Pier 39 a ver a los leones marinos. Estos días hay récord en la ciudad! Estamos media hora contemplándolos. Un paseo por las tiendas y restaurantes del Pier donde hay un ambiente brutal y nos vamos hasta Powell/Mason a tomar el cable car. Otra de las cosas que no te puedes perder en San Francisco. El frio por haber estado mojados toda la mañana, puede con nosotros y nos vamos de vuelta al hotel. Chilly but charming day out with my son exploring the sights! Serendipitously ran into our good friend Ernst too. Started with the iconic Lombard Street, then strolled to Pier 39. Caught Funny Frank’s entertaining act on the ‘Ingredients of Happiness’ – hilarious and insightful!- Dinner at Bubba Gump was a blast (From the movie Forrest Gump). Ein Meer aus Seelöwen! Über 1000 Seelöwen versammeln sich derzeit am Pier 39 in San Francisco. Das sind so viele wie seit mindestens 15 Jahren nicht mehr. Tourist:innen sind begeistert, dass die Tiere sich zahlreich am Kai versammeln. Nach Angaben des Pier-Personals wurden die Seelöwen von einem reichhaltigen Angebot an Sardinen in der Bucht angezogen. Der Anstieg der Seelöwen ist im Allgemeinen ein gutes Zeichen für die starke Population der Tiere und die Gesundheit des Lebensraums, so Adam Ratner, Direktor für Naturschutzengagement am Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, Kalifornien. Kalifornische Seelöwen dienen als "Wächter des Meeres", so Ratner. "Ihre Population spiegelt gewissermaßen die Gesundheit des Ozeans wider. Eine große Anzahl von kalifornischen Seelöwen zu sehen, ist also eine großartige Sache". Seit ihrer Ankunft am Pier vor etwa 35 Jahren sind die Seelöwen zu einer Hauptattraktion in der Stadt geworden. Der erste Seelöwe, den das Personal aufgrund eines um den Hals gebundenen Fischernetzes "Flea Collar" (Flohhalsband) nannte, kam 1989 an. Und bald darauf folgten mehrere hundert weitere. In manchen Jahren haben sich bis zu 1700 Seelöwen gleichzeitig am Pier eingefunden, während es zu anderen Zeiten nur einige hundert waren. They're taking advantage of a massive school of anchovy in the San Francisco Bay, plus plenty of herring, to get in the mood for continuing their journey south to mate. San Francisco’s Pier 39, in Fisherman’s Wharf, is being taken over by roughly 11 hundred sea lions. The sea lions are being attracted by an unusually high number of anchovies that are currently in the bay area. There haven’t been this many sea lions in that area in 15 years. The sea lions started showing up on the pier in 1989 and have been a tourist attraction ever since. Besides the pungent smell they are letting off, local businesses are glad the sea lions are attracting more customers.
