“It is when you are faced with difficult situations that you come up with the most creative solutions.” One Future Collective had the exciting opportunity to meet global civic society leaders in April 2024, when we attended the Strengthening the @civicusalliance meeting and the Steering Committee meeting for Vuka! Coalition for Social Action. One Future Collective serves on Vuka’s Steering Committee. Through this opportunity to meet the steering committee in person, we were able to participate in discussions centred on fostering collaboration among civic organisations and networks to advance our common goals. It was a week full of camaraderie, learning, joy, and collaboration towards our vision of a socially just world. We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to continue contributing to our goal of a vibrant and thriving civil society! Dialogue and action on rights of individuals as well as the protection of civic spaces are especially important in light of the crackdown on human rights and the widespread use of violence against populations that we see is happening globally. We can’t get over the #findingverses event we hosted @attagalatta based on #HowtoSharetheWorld, which was super warm and brimming with creative energy. We started off strong by discussing what it means to share a world, which was met with some extremely honest reponses, straight from the heart. We then drew inspiration from #HowtoSharetheWorld to craft our own poems. Using existing poems from the anthology, we ‘found’ poetry by blacking out some words from the poem and adding some of our own because we can all be wordsmiths! Looking back at some of the workshops we conducted recently as part of the #OneFutureFestival 🚌 ✊We had the amazing opportunity to host a workshop with @projectpotential on the profound impact of storytelling on social justice work. We explored the importance of storytelling as a means of cultivating a safe and supportive environment for self-expression. We also delved into how storytelling is relevant to advocate for social justice and constitutional rights within our communities. ✊As part of the annual Kehkasha event for adolescent girls @thegenderlab, we were also invited to host a workshop on the power of female friendships and sisterhood. Over the last month, we had the incredible opportunity to interact and network with individuals and organisations that are leading pathbreaking work in the impact sector. 🤝We participated in a closed-door multi-stakeholder dialogue on Essential Data, hosted by Goalkeep, as part of Dasra Philanthropy Week (@dasraindia). The event provided us with the tools and strategies needed to ask critical questions, obtain objective answers, and excel in today's data-driven world. We were also nudged to question our own data collection and preservation practices. An enlightening conversation in the truest sense. 🤝We also attended the @bold_community event and had the opportunity to meet fantastic individuals from various fields including business, research, policy, and creative fields, to discuss the work we do. We are ecstatic to share snapshots from the pitstops the #OneFutureFestival has been making 🚂 Empathy is the driver of social change since it can support building bridges. We hosted workshops on empathy building and assertiveness, hosted by NAFS, at Zakir Husain Delhi College, DU. We discussed various ways to build empathy while maintaining and establishing boundaries and how to supplement this with assertive communication. Fostering kindness and understanding every step of the way⭐🫰 Building bridges and continuing our social justice work also requires taking stock of the ecosystem within which we operate. Addressing the dangerous tide of hate speech therefore becomes essential. We facilitated a workshop on understanding the causes and consequences of hate speech, at Youth Alliance. Here, we discussed the iceberg model of hate speech, the importance of addressing our internal biases and stereotypes and the need for dialogue to repair harm and promote intergroup healing as the way forward. The volume argues that we must fight to keep our sense of connection alive, for through it we birth worlds that can coexist, be symbiotic, and collaborate. @illesha makes art with hope for a more loving world. This work often looks like photographs, poems, films, books, drawings and gatherings. Her practice is her tool to walk the distance of one heart to another. She researches emotions and landscapes, using art as a connector between what is inside the heart and what is around the body. In a constant search for home, her art practice has become a way of home-making.
