Niagara Glen! . This is a park (on the Canada side) with hiking, bouldering, picnic spots, and a nature center in the Niagara Gorge. The hiking trails bring you down near the Niagara Whirlpool and up close and personal with the Niagara River. . Throughout our hike, there were plenty of rock formations like this one that we could go under, around, or climb over. We came across several groups bouldering as well (you need to get a special permit for this). . It was an amazing hike and honestly, probably my highlight of our Niagara Falls trip. Outdoor climbing season is definitely here! Can’t wait to spend many beautiful days at #niagaraglen for some outdoor bouldering. I still remember going outdoor bouldering for the very first time last May. My friends and I were carrying our crash pads, backpacks, chalk bags, and snack bars down the stairs to find some cool rocks to climb. I held on the guidebook and looked for V1 and V2 problems as ‘warm-ups’, only to find out that outdoor grades are way harder than the ones at the gym. That’s why I want to share a few tips with climbers who are planning climb outdoor for the first time: - bring water and snacks with you! You need to replenish your body with liquid and fuel to send your projects! - bring bugs sprays, sunscreen, and a first aid kit. You never know when accidents happen - learn how to place your crash pads and spot your fellow climbers properly. You can find plenty of youtube videos about that. Make sure you watch a few of them before you head out. - find a SAFE downclimb route before you top out! You can also have your friends spot you as you down climb. - leave no trace!! Respect the rocks and respect the beautiful nature - don’t be INTIMIDATED by climbing grades and let them stop from trying something you think is fun and cool! We are officially international hikers 🥾😄. We crossed the Canadian boarder and hiked the Niagara Glen trail. The scary stairs down and up were so worth the views. We got to see the boulders where the Falls were located prior to their recession, and the raging river that is now downstream of the Falls current location. March 2023 #HikingAdventures Pt.1: Every Hike Everywhere All At Once 🤯 Last March was a tour de force of trails which had me visiting #waterfalls , #rapids , massive forests and even some urban trail systems. And I took all of my photography equipment to nearly every spot! #1-4: #HiltonFalls Conservation Area in #Milton is a great spot to take a digital SLR or Mirrorless camera, because you can take incredible #waterfall photos like these! It's also an extremely family friendly trail destination and offers the #BruceTrail for folks like me who want a more adventurous time. Check the video for some examples (like a glacial pothole, or getting on top of the falls) 5: As a regular visitor to the city of #NiagaraFalls and #NiagaraOnTheLake ON, you will regularly find me in the #NiagaraGlen Nature Reserve. This video compilation not only showcases the #WhirlpoolTrail in all its glory (hello waterfall rock!) but you can see the insanely turquoise colour of the Niagara river downstream from the Falls. 6: These are the winter views (well, last year) at #EarlRoweProvincialPark in #Alliston ON. This is an amazing summer destination for families (with wave pools, park lands and picnic areas) but in the winter? It doesn't get much more peaceful and serene than this. 7: Here I am sitting on a bench in the #GlenMajorForest in #Uxbridge ON just before #sunset . Another day off, so I decided to cross the border and do some hiking on the Canadian side of the river! I've been wanting to hike the Canadian Gorge Trails for a while to see how they compared to NY's, and I think I actually prefer the American side, if only because the Canadian trail stops at the whirlpool, while the American trail actually continue along the river upstream of the whirlpool where my favorite rapids to view are! N I A G A R A G L E N we spent the Family Day long weekend in Niagara Falls, jam-packing our days with so many adventures that we finally made it to Niagara Glen Trail close to sunset last night. we hiked about half of the Main Loop, getting down to the gorge from Cliffside Trail. I absolutely love an escarpment trail, so this one really scratched that itch for me. there were so many cool rock formations and crevices to walk through! •The Force of Nature• Usually this time of year at the Niagara Glen, snow covers the ground and the hiking trails become quite a challenge. Worse yet, ice can make them treacherous and off limits. Not so this year. Without snow and ice, these trails become an inviting way to burn off a few calories and to alleviate symptoms of the winter doldrums. Additionally, without foliage on the trees, the already spectacular view becomes even less obstructed. It is of the majestic Niagara River, a powerful force that has been carving its way through rock ever since the retreat of the last glacier. This commenced about 12,000 years ago. Since then, erosion has exposed sedimentary layers that whisper stories of over 400 million years of geology; from ancient sea fossils; to curiously placed boulders; to strikingly high cliffs.
