Helplessness isn’t the end of our stories. Not even demon possession could stop the love of Jesus. I’ve always been fascinated by the story of the demon possessed man of the Gerasenes. He couldn’t do anything for himself and the details the Bible gives for his story are so interesting. But regardless of how desperate the situation was that he found himself in, Jesus made sure to find him. He does the same for us. He’s just that good.

Interestingly there was not one singular moment or event that confirmed my decision to enter the seminary. Rather than one dramatic moment I believe it was more of a slow and steady revelation over time whereby the Lord used the ordinary events of my daily life to reveal Himself to me. I will mention briefly that when I was a young boy Pope John Paul II made an Apostolic visit to the Archdiocese of Newark, as many will recall. Brothers and sisters, there is no other way to be saved. We all fall short of the Glory of God. So Jesus came to this earth to be our Lord and Savior. Jesus + works = No Salvation because if you believe you have to do good to be saved you belittle the gift from God. If you believe you have to merit your salvation you’re consequently denying that Jesus paid for it all. Doing good is the fruit of our salvation, proof that we hold Jesus in our hearts by the way we live and not what saves us. I listened to the catechesis of the Neocatechumenal Way, at St. Catherine of Sienna Parish in Franklin Square, NY, while I was ministering at a nearby parish, and my life began to take a direction toward a fullness that I had never dared to seek from any of the sources of fulfillment offered in the world. God was taking action to save me from fear, resentment, sin, and giving me everything, gratuitously. In the course of discovering the beauty that is Christianity, the path to the priesthood opened up through several conversations with priests and my catechists. Brothers and sisters, no one could ever merit entry into Heaven. That’s right, despite what many religions teach, works is not going to get you in. We do however have a duty as Christian’s to firstly love God, and then our neighbor as ourselves. But this duty is not our way in, merely the fruit of our faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus. Despite the lies and traditions taught by men, Jesus is the only way, the truth and the life, no one gets to the father but through Jesus. There is no magic scapular, there is no influence by praying to Saints or even the Blessed Virgin Mary. That’s not to say that the Virgin Mary or the Saints are not important in the history of Christianity. But that’s where it stops. It is only by God’s amazing grace with our Faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus that we have any way in to Heaven. Do not be deceived it is written that Jesus paid our debts in full, that he bore our punishment, the punishment that we justly deserved, all the way up to the cross. I was inspired to become a priest because of the great joy and strength that comes from knowing Jesus in the family of faith, especially in my parish family. My home parish, Saint Thomas More in Fairfield, was a home for me; through altar serving, youth ministry, teaching CCD, helping lead vacation Bible school, and music ministry, I felt I belonged. As I grew in my relationship with Jesus through prayer, knew his tender love and mercy, and fell in love with the Church...the Body of Christ, I came to hear Jesus’ call. His call was a still, small voice that resounded in my heart and invited me to be his priest and a man who lives for others. Brothers and sisters, despite the circumstances, I would rather be in a storm with God on my side than anywhere else without Him. Those who rest in the shadow of The Almighty have nothing to fear. Do not fear those who can after destroying the body can do no more. Rather fear The One who can destroy both the body and soul in eternal punishment. But the fear I refer to is of His wrath for not putting your trust in Jesus. Get close to The Father and He will get close to you. Place your trust in The Father, for it is because of His amazing grace with our Faith in The Lord Jesus that we have the hope of salvation. It is not by works so no one can boast. We cannot even repent lest the father grant us repentance of our sins (2 Timothy 2:25). Otherwise people can boast, saying I repented so why can’t you. The evidence of our salvation will be actions. The Roar of Revival🔥 Happy Pentecost Sunday!!! The Lord has something to say through this piece. When the thought came to my mind of what revival would look like I saw fire. However, before that fire can start something needs to happen. 🗝~Charles Finney on How to Begin A Revival said “The first step is a deep repentance, a breaking down into the heart, getting down into the dust before god, with a deep humility and forsaking of sin.” The key to Revival lies in repentance. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says “and MY(that’s Christians) people, who are called by My Name, humble themselves, and pray and seek (crave, require as a necessity) My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear [them] from heaven, and forgive their sin and heal their land.” This first step we can not ignore. 🔥~As I was painting the fiery mane all I heard in my mind was “go forth”. Believers are not just supposed to keep this fire to ourselves. We are to multiply by spreading our flames to a dry world hungry for more! You never need to advertise fire! It’s alluring, warm and powerful! Same with a Christian on fire for the Lord! My prayer for this piece is that when you look at it you want it to be your anthem! 🦁~The lion’s roar represents the heart cry of Revival and going forth! Roars are territorial. It’s a proclamation as God’s children we are taking ground! Be prepared, Heaven will meet Earth soon in one of the greatest revivals ever known! I want to see such a revival that the devil prays for the rapture! Come Holy Spirit, burn with us as we roar Your kingdom come! I believe God is going to do something significant in 2024! People are so hungry for more! From college kids getting saved and baptized in the back of truck beds to celebrities, witches, and 🌽 stars giving their lives to Christ! I don't know what we’ll see in the coming months but what I do know is even through the darkness Holy spirit is moving like wildfire nationwide to bring conviction and true repentance that leads to revival! Please pray for Matteo Matarazzo as he prepares for the priesthood! What inspired you to become a priest? I left the Faith and the Church for a period of time. One evening I went to listen to the catechesis of the Neocatechumenal Way (NCW). There I was told that God loved me and that He was not ashamed of me. It was the first time in a while that I felt really loved, forgiven, and accepted. Being in the NCW and having experienced the love of God in my life made me see my calling to become a priest. . Despite these challenging times, why do you still want to be a priest? . If I am going forward in my vocation it is not despite these times, but because of them. People today are starving spiritually. There is an urgent need to evangelize. I want to be able to bring God's love to these people in a very personal way. . What was the moment/event that confirmed your decision to enter the seminary? . One of the moments was when my life was spared after I had a car accident. Another moment was to see the patience and love of God through my formators that despite my initial rebellion, kept believing in my vocation and helped me in many ways to accept it. What message would you like to share with the members of your future assigned parish? I am very excited to be with you! I look forward to meeting you and together walking toward God. The celebration of Pentecost Sunday reminds us of the reality that we all have the unifying Spirit that was poured out upon the first-century church in Acts 2:1-4. Beloved, I know you are tired. I’ve been tired too. I know you are weary. I have been there too. I know you want the pain to just end. I’ve been there too. And there is another side. There is a glory that no pain can snuff out. Because I know the pain you have been feeling. I’ve felt it pierce my hands. I’ve felt it grip my heart. I’ve felt it shoved into my face. I’ve felt it bleed into my sweat. It is the pain of all shame. All accusation. All suffering. And this pain that you have been feeling, cannot compare to the joy that is coming. For pain comes in waves but my glory is coming like a storm that commands that waves. If pain is a wave crashing over and over again, My glory is the radiance of the sun and your testimony is the refraction of the moon changing the tides of what true glory means. Glory doesn’t mean it’s happy all the time, It means it will remain in spite of the sadness. Beloved, I know you no longer want your life, so I ask you to take mine instead. My burden is easy. I know my yoke reminds you of the noose that has held you captive. But mine is made out of light. Not sorrows. You need not spill anymore of your blood. There is enough of mine to go around. And around. And around. My blood does not grow weary of doing good. My hands do not grow callous to your scars. My joy isn’t moved by your trauma. It waits through it. My peace isn’t shaken by your panic. It holds you tighter within it. My love does not grow cold to your heart of stone. But it begins to warm until we hold a heart of flesh. And a heart of flesh will hurt far more than a heart of stone. But a heart of flesh can feel. It can feel pain. And it can feel me after the pain. A heart of flesh can be bruised. And it can also be bandaged. Beloved, a heart of flesh I give you because I moved the stone once and for all. The rocks will cry out of reverence. But you will cry out in affection. And with every ounce of affection, You have a million more miles of my attention.
