Yesterday at a small event called "Everyone Can Do Something." This quote comes from Max Lucado who said, "No one can do everything, but everyone can do something." Several people came together to help package and donate over 300 copies of "The Flock" comic/activity book, along with school supplies, toys, and stuffed animals to foster families. I am so thankful to God, Axia Ministries (www.axiaministries.org), Grace Baptist Church for providing lunch for everyone, and the MANY generous volunteers, donors who have been supporting this project. Now, these books and resources will reach children, parents, birth parents, families, social workers and many others, spreading the Gospel and planting seeds we pray will grow. All for God's glory! It was that time again for our monthly foster care missionary zoom meeting. There were 20+ people on today from all over the country, all with the same heart and passion to serve at-risk, vulnerable families and foster families. All of us have our unique God-given specialties for the areas that we live in and serve in … from serving biological families, being involved in the legal aspects of child welfare, facilitators of trauma informed care, equipping churches for wrap around care, working with aged out youth…. Today, we spent a big chunk of our time praying for one another’s needs. and there were many! We are in a spiritual battle on a daily basis. We are fighting for kids. We are fighting for families. Not only do most of us serve in this space, but many of us took children into our homes with trauma histories. So not only do we see the effects of abuse and neglect in our communities but sometimes we’re facing the symptoms of that hurt and pain under our own roofs. We are a unique tribe. We can relate with each other… we’re willing to step into the ‘messy’! I’m so grateful for these courageous men and women who live out the gospel … while raising their families … and raising their own financial support. Please pray for foster care missionaries! Your gifts through our Gifts That Matter campaign continue to make a difference! Harriet Ajalo, a struggling widow caring for her seven children, will soon be getting a desperately needed home. Her family lives in Akwamor, Uganda, on land acquired by her late husband. After his death, her in-laws abandoned her and took the two cows she owned that would have been a tremendous resource for her family. Harriet faces numerous challenges made worse by the living conditions in her small, papyrus roofed house. To make ends meet, she works in others’ gardens along with her children. Beyond addressing her housing needs, we firmly believe that assisting Harriet will not only elevate her standard of living but also enhance the safety and well-being of her family. Providing her with a secure and well-built dwelling will alleviate the financial burden of periodic roof repairs. A quick little update since life keeps getting away from me! Yesterday our baby turned 10…I’m not even sure I really know how to feel about the baby being TEN. Reed is such a sweetheart and still snuggles with me and I’ll take all the snuggles I can get! I did a little blogging about our truck purchase, it was gonna just be a Facebook post, but I got too detailed and it was too long! 😂 If you haven’t subscribed to our blog it is a great way to keep up with the happenings of Mercy Ministries and promise to not overload your inbox! William Mackergo Taylor was an American Congregationalist minister. Here he writes on the parable of Lazars and the Rich Man from Luke 16:19-31. He ties it to the parable of the Wicked Servant from Matthew 25. Mackergo says the beggar being neglected was a feature of the rich man’s unfaithfulness. The rich man did no more for the outlying world than for Lazarus, and so was like the Wicked Servant who kept the talent to himself. They started pouring cement before the sun came up…5:30am. 1/4 of the basketball court is done, they will pour the rest over the next 3 days. Karson hired 23 guys from our village, we pulled 4 of our boys out of school (they have already worked cement with Jacob and Karson), plus Jacob Eaton, Karson, and Brendan. They were done pouring just before noon, but spent hours “finishing” the new cement as it set up. Just to give you an idea of how much work is involved in this cement work, we cannot get a cement truck in our area and we do not have premixed bags of cement. All of the hired guys moved materials, mixed cement, and delivered to the desired area-ish😂. Oh and the total dimensions of the basketball court are 115ft x 60ft so this is quite the undertaking! We are incredibly blessed to have donors who wanted to fund this massive project and to have Jacob and Tanya Eaton who are willing to give up time and money to come and help with not only this, but MANY other things as well. Basketball court construction prep! At the end of December we had 2 large donations come in specifically for a basketball court to be built at our high school campus. We weren’t sure how long it would be before we could actually break ground on, but God provided and it is in process. The ground has been leveled, the rebar has been tied and laid out, and the forming has been started. Monday morning, bright and early the cement mixers will be running full force! We have 600 bags of cement, 84 tons of sand, and 110 tons of gravel ready to be loaded into the mixers and poured onto the ground.
