Consigli in pillole dalla mia collezione: Hellraiser 5: Inferno. Di Scott Derrickson. USA, 2000. Il primo capitolo di Hellraiser, scritto e diretto da Clive Barler stesso, autore del racconto dal quale era stato tratto, è intoccabile ancora oggi. Uno degli horror fondamentali. Il secondo e il terzo capitolo sono anch'essi molto buoni e da recuperare assolutamente. Purtroppo il quarto capitolo ha rovinato i piani che produttivi, qualitativi e di apprezzamento che stava avendo la saga, un vero passo falso. Saga che è composta da undici film più un reebot e oggi vi consiglio il quinto capitolo della saga, che rimane ancora un ottimo film a basso budget, che ha dalla sua delle ottime interpretazioni, una sceneggiatura che funziona e la regia di Scott Derrickson. Il film inizia come un solito thriller/noir, con un poliziotto marcio come protagonista, ma pian piano arriverà tutto ciò che ci si può aspettare da questa saga e il risultato è più che appagante. Dopo Cabal, diretto da Barker, tornano a recitare insieme Doug Bradley, nel suo ruolo iconico di Pinhead e Craig Sheffer, nel ruolo del protagonista (interpretato in maniera eccelsa). Una discesa lenta e inesorabile verso l'inferno. L'inevitabile e senza fuga punizione dei colpevoli. Come detto, la sceneggiatura funziona, è ben intrecciata, ha un ottimo sviluppo e il protagonista è ben scritto e ancora meglio interpretato e tutto questo è valorizzato dalla mano di Derrickson, qui al suo esordio, che sta avendo una carriera fortunata. Ha diretto pochi film, ma tutti di buon successo. Ha diretto l'orribile remake di Ultimatum alla terra, ma ha anche diretto gli ottimi L'esorcismo di Emily Rose e il primo Sinister (anche il secondo che è dimenticabile). Liberaci dal male, un horror piacevole e il primo Doctor Strange, per la Marvel (per chi apprezza il genere è un film da serata) e il suo ultimo film è attualmente il buon thriller Black Phone, anche questo medio, ma con delle cose che funzionano moltissimo. Un regista che apprezzo abbastanza, che mi diverte, e questo quinto capitolo di Hellraiser è quasi una produzione televisiva, ma è tra i suoi film che preferisco e che consiglio assolutamente di recuperare.

Hellraiser: Inferno Seeing as this is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, I will be dedicating about 30 seconds to this review. Let me sum it up in one sentence: it was missing a comprehensible plot, good characters, any kind of scare factor, and the whole thing was downright awful. The only enjoyable part of this movie was some of the makeup/character designs. That’s literally it. Besides that, it totally sucks, and that’s all the effort I will put into the review. Never watch this movie, unless you want to experience extreme boredom, with some quick jolts of mental pain.

My recent additions. I'm surprised that the new Pet Sematary was released on DVD this early since it was a direct-to-streaming release. Even though I already had the remake, I decided to get the collection because it's just both individual releases package together in a slipcover and it was only a three dollar difference compared to just getting the new one on it's own. I was waiting to see if a U.S. release would have been announced for the Hellraiser remake, but it seems like it's staying as a streaming exclusive for now in most places so I went ahead and bought the official U.K. release. I was pleasantly surprise to find it came with a slipcover since that wasn't advertised. This does mean I'm going to have to invest in a region-free player, but that was already something I was considering about getting.

Watched another hellraiser film last night, and this one comes from Scott Derrickson, with this being his first film he ever directed. It follows Los Angeles Cop Joseph, who finds himself plunged into hell, forcing him to work with the demon known as Pinhead to gain possession of his puzzle box and escape from an eternity of suffering. I will say this film definitely stands out from all the other films, having a detective/ psychological horror vibe to it. Some parts reminded me a lot of Jacob's Ladder, which was cool to see. The only issue was that it really didn't feel like a hellraiser film, with pinhead being in the film less than any other entry in the franchise. Still had the same visual look and so so acting that the other films had, but it was a lot entertaining to watch than the last few films. At least it did something different, and it does it pretty well as a horror film. #hellraiserinferno

Hellraiser: Inferno (2000) So this is really where the Hellraiser franchise started to go downhill. It's not a bad film in itself but it's not a good Hellraiser movie. The plot basically follows a corrupt detective named Joseph Thorne who discovers the Lemarchand's box at a crime scene and upon opening it his life starts to unravel. Now it does have some cool scenes within like his hallucinations of a couple of mutilated women and a creature with no eyes or legs which resembles The Chatterer. These creatures are revealed as Cenobites in the end and we get a shot of Pinhead towards the beginning but he's not seen again until the end. Joseph begins to look for a killer called The Engineer who begins to kill anyone Joseph comes into contact with. It's revealed The Engineer is playing a game with Joseph as he searches. There's some pretty cool kills in this one and the acting is ok. The Dick Tracy narrative is a bit annoying. The reveal at the end is cool though and we get a bit more Pinhead. There's a good twist too and the movie ends on a pretty trippy one but quite clever. “Hellraiser: Inferno” is by far my favorite sequel. Many would see this as a strange choice but this figure is the main reason. The Cenobites in this film are AMAZING. Maybe that’s shallow. But I don’t care, the mangled appearance of the Cenobites in the original film is a crucial part of what makes the narrative come together when you seen exactly what Frank trying to escape. The Wire Twins and torso are on par with the originals in my mind. The extreme nature of Torso is matched only by the perverse sensuality of the twins. After Saturday night’s screening of the original, I’ve been revisiting the many Hellraiser sequels. I forgot how many cool people were in these films - Adam Scott & Kim Myers (A Nightmare on Elm Street 2) both show up in Hellraiser: Bloodline. The confusingly metaphysical Hellraiser: Inferno, meanwhile, features James Remar & Nicholas Turturro in supporting roles. My favorite moment there, though, was when Winifred Freedman popped up as a confused & frightened front desk nurse. One of my favorite character actresses, Freedman might be best known to celluloid connoisseurs from her memorable appearance in The Last American Virgin. I, for one, simply adore her deadpan Annette, the bassist in Joanie’s band from the short-lived sitcom Joanie Loves Chachi. 22. Hellraiser: Inferno Ok I legit forgot this was a hellraiser movie by the time I was 3/4 in mainly because it had NOTHING to do with it. They seem to have filmed a couple random Pinhead scenes and stapled them to a detective movie script. Even the little demonic flashes before that are pretty cheap and inconsequential as some nonsensical crap happens to kill some time midway through. In the end it just feels like two different movies and I just checked out of both. HORRORTHON 2023 87. Hellraiser: Inferno (2000) So this movie has been getting a reevaluation by the horror community lately. A major reason for that is that it is directed by Scott Derrickson who went on to make some great horror films like Sinister and Black Phone as well as also directing the first Doctor Strange movie. I remember seeing this in high school and not liking it at all. And while I definitely enjoyed it more this time around, I still wasn’t the biggest fan. Mostly because it just didn’t feel like a Hellraiser film for me. It feels like a different detective story with Pinhead just inserted in. It still wasn’t bad or anything. I enjoyed it. And the cenobite designs were interesting for this one. Day 7- Today I'm watching the 5th installment in a franchise I am trying to get through, Hellraiser Inferno. I chose this movie today for a couple of reason, 1, I am currently trying to finish watching all the installments in big horror franchise, and Hellraiser is one of them. 2 I wanted to try and get through Hellraiser because at this moment I only really like 2 of the Hellraiser movies, which isn't great. And 3 this movie has a very surprising director for me, that being Scott Derrickson, director of Sinister, Doctor Strange and The Black Phone. HELLRAISER TRILOGY Actually this DVD boxset from the UK should contain the Hellraiser trilogy including a bonus disc. But I put the parts 4-8 inside. 🙈 Saves space and also makes a good impression.
