My cup was feeling drained this month at work so I doubled down on another Friday hooky ride. Today was a Dalles Singlespeed day. I’ve been wanting to do the Reverse direction Japanese Hollow short course on SS for a while. 43 mi/ 4500 ft of vert. Wind and weather were perfect with dry and compact roads. 42-20 was perfect, but the climb up Dutch Flats was a grind with grades between 8-11%. It’s only 1.5 miles so I knew the suffering would be over quickly. I saw a solo buck trotting across Pleasant Ridge, and a couple doe’s on Dutch Flats. And 👋🏽@thomaspishaduffly who I passed at the halfway point. Finished ahead of my goal time and snapped up a bunch of PRs. Sometimes singlespeed is faster. Before I left Australia I said I was hoping the most memorable thing that happened at @unboundgravel was that I raced 200 miles. Before I even made it to Emporia this had gone out the window, after getting rushed to the airport by @cassius.anderson to make a delayed 10am flight, things properly went off the rails when I hit Phoenix. Linking up with @amityvil and @casaronaanthony we waited through two cancelled flights and an eventual rebook before finally arriving at 4am on Friday. — Mi è sempre piaciuto l’irraggiungibile. Avevo 17 anni, quando mi sono appassionata alla bici. A 6 anni mi portavano alle corse di mio fratello, ma quei corridori che giravano intorno ad un circuito non mi divertivano, e mi passavo il tempo mangiando gelati. C’è voluto smettere di andare a scuola, a 16 anni, in terza liceo, e trovare il mio primo lavoro, in un piccolo calzaturificio, per conoscere la persona che è riuscita a farmi appassionare a questo sport. A 19 anni provavo tra le Èlite, perché una donna a quell’età può correre solo lí, con le migliori. Anche se è lontana anni luce dal poter competere con loro. Eppure sognavo l’irraggiungibile, ogni volta che non finivo una gara, ogni volta che rimettevo il numero, ogni volta che mi sembrava la settimana buona, ogni volta che il momento più difficile si presentava quando i miei genitori mi chiedevano com’era andata. “Ah niente…” rispondevo. Ogni volta che il lunedì ero già in sella a pensare alla domenica dopo. Eppure un giorno, davanti a “Vieni a vivere in Toscana, a crescere in tranquillità” ho mollato. Mille paure mi hanno assalita. Non sono più riuscita a credere in quel sogno, ad inseguire l’irraggiungibile, nel momento in cui qualcuno mi ha aperto uno spiraglio per poterlo raggiungere. Ho vissuto per tanti anni nel rimpianto. До Бальги оставалось всего шесть км, но мы уже хотели домой. Повернули на ближайшую станцию.
Там, на острове Ломзе, где стадион, а за ним дома на болоте, в конце велодорожки нужно быть внимательным, не налететь на болотную кочку, которая вспухла посреди брусчатки. А сразу за ней есть сверток направо вглубь острова. Дорога идет среди куч песка, строительного мусора, ям, да луж. В конце открывается этот вид на Прегель. Здесь почти тишина - только чириканье птиц, дальний шум эстакады, плеск воды, да писк комаров.
Рапсовыми полями.
Он заметил меня издалека. Побежал навстречу с грозным лаем. Я на всякий случай спешился и прикрылся байком. Но пёс с ходу раскусил мой трюк и оббежал байк, приближаясь ко мне. Вид у него был воинственный. Ничего не поделать, придется откупаться. Пятясь спиной до забора, слежу за ним, а он продолжает крутить вокруг и лаять. Стоило мне привалить байк, черный тут же прилип носом к «штанам» на багажнике. И не зря, там лежала пара кусков курицы, завернутые в фольгу, супруга собрала тормозок в дорогу. Отломил кусок курицы, пёс тут же его проглотил. Я ожидал, что для знакомства и начала дружбы этого более чем достаточно, но не тут то было - снова скалится. Понятно, придется отдать и вторую половину. Кинул далеко в траву, и пока чёрный его искал, я дал по педалям. Оборачиваюсь, чтобы убедиться, что меня не преследуют, и вот же моё разочарование, пёс бежит следом. Вот наглец! Оставшийся кусок - мой! Знаю, от собаки на велосипеде не убежать, особенно, когда дорога идет в гору, но не останавливаюсь. Расстояние сокращается. Чувствую, придется расстаться с перекусом. Хорошо, что есть ещё овощи и сыр, не пропаду. Оглядываюсь снова, а пёс-то ленится, потихоньку отстает, а вскоре и вовсе преследование прекратил. Развернулся и побежал на свой пост нового туриста ждать. Нас здесь много бывает, прокормят.
Невозможно равнодушно проехать мимо рапсового поля. Эти цвета, эти краски! Контраст холодного и теплого, голубого и жёлтого. Долго любовался.
