I am pleased to announce that President Samia Suluhu Hassan has granted a whopping 16.2 billion shillings for the compensation of citizens affected by road construction projects across the country. This remarkable decision was revealed by the Minister of Infrastructure, Innocent Bashungwa, during his visit to Simiyu region. Mr. Bashungwa shared this news after inspecting the progress of the Maswa Bypass road, which spans 11.3 kilometers and is already 99% complete. He stated, "President Samia has allocated over 16 billion shillings to settle compensation debts, which must be paid by June 30, 2023. Her sincere commitment is to enhance our national road network." Additionally, Mr. Bashungwa highlighted that the purpose of constructing the Maswa Bypass road is to alleviate traffic congestion in the center of Maswa town. He revealed that the government has already allocated funds for the feasibility study and detailed design of the Bariadi-Salama-Mhayo-Magu (76 km), Bariadi-Itilima-Mwandoya-Moroco (104 km), and Nyashimo-Ngasamo-Ndutwa (48 km) roads, in order to determine the construction costs for these asphalt roads. Providing an update on the project, Engineer John Mkumbo, the Regional Manager of Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) in Simiyu, stated that the contract for the construction of the Maswa Bypass road was signed on June 1, 2021, with CHICO Company as the main contractor, at a cost of 13.4 billion shillings. Furthermore, Engineer Mkumbo added that the contractor is progressing well, completing minor tasks such as road signage installation, road marking, and the construction of auxiliary road infrastructure. 💪 With this significant investment in road infrastructure, we can expect improved connectivity, reduced traffic congestion, and enhanced economic development for our communities.
