Wyoming sure was beautiful and brutal. Long days and short nights, and definitely got my workout. General consensus between everyone else out there hunting was the same “bird aren’t gobbling”. One resident said he had been there four days and heard two gobbles was calling it quits. It’s pretty hard to find a Tom in a national forest if he don’t gobble. I had three encounters with separate toms while there that were all short lived. Seen what seemed to be a ton of hens. But no toms with them. The second day what seemed to be a perfect setup was crushed by the adjoining landowner to state ground hitting his Jake brake on in his semi and then confronting me about “he’d had problems with people trespassing” haha. The list goes on. In the end I returned home empty handed. Stronger will than what I had last year in South Dakota. 10+ mile walks, over 1000’ feet of elevation gains, and sun up til sun down were made everyday. I feel I put forth the effort and many times I told myself “at some point the stars will align”. Ready for next year to claim the white tipped Merriam I’ve been after now for two years. We’ve chasing the birds for quite a few mornings before work. Lots of close calls, had gobblers within shooting range, but things didn’t pan out. Friday morning started out calling in two different owls and hearing no gobbles. Changed location and thought we had the gobbler lightening up from the previous night, but all 3 Jake’s were chiming in soon to follow and on top of us in 10 mins. 25 years since my last turkey - I finally got it done again! #gobblegobble I set up on another ridge to start my morning. Dead silent. I heard this guy gobbling where I was sitting yesterday, typical! So after about 20 minutes of listening to him gobble, I packed up and quickly made my way down off the ridge I was on and up the next ridge. Anyone who has Hunted in the hills near Muscoda knows this was no easy walk. I was dripping sweat by the time I got over there. As soon as I got to the edge of the field I heard him gobble again and I knew it was Gametime. He was within 100yards and on the other side of the field in the woods near where I shot my bow buck last year. I set up my decoy and gave him a quick hen call and BAM - he responded back and started heading my way. Another quick hen cluck and another gobble. Every gobble kept getting louder until eventually he popped his head out of the woods about 75 yards away and started working his way along the field edge towards my decoy. When he got to 20 yards BANG 🦃🙏
PA spring turkey tag punched! 👊🦃 I had the awesome opportunity to get out and punch my first ever PA long beard tag on this old stud of a Tom. Last year, shot my first bird ever in WV and this season I was able to punch my WV and PA tags. This has been a wild season for sure. Multiple birds tagged, plenty of encounters, and a bunch of good stories to tell now. My season is now over and I am more than happy with how it progressed. Definitely blessed. One pot Vatha Kozhumbu rice. Those from tamil nadu relish traditional Kozhumbu curry. Easy & simplified to make this one pot dish.... Recipe : Ingredients: Rice 1 cup soaked for 30 minutes Tomato 1 cup cut Tamarind pulp 1 cup Vathhal 6 to 8 # Shallots 15 # Asafoetida 1/4 tsp Jaggery 1tsp Powder/Masala: 2tsp channa dal 1 tsp urat dal 1tsp Coriander seeds 1tsp mustard seeds 2 long red chillies 6 to 8 garlic 10 curry leaves 1 tsp fenugreek seeds 1 tsp Pepper Roast them dry and powder to fine consistency. Method : Use pressure cooker. Once heated, add sesame oil & add seasoning of channa dal+ urat dal + Cumin +mustard +red chillies + curry leaves +vatthal +shallots and roast well. Add tomatoes +salt +turmeric powder , cook for a few minutes. Add tamarind pulp+3 1/ 2 cups water + above masala + rice + chilli powder if needed +jaggery + Asafoetida powder +salt . Mix well. F R E E E N T R Y 🦃🚜🦃 As a great big thank you to everyone who has supported us for our upcoming TURKEYS ON TOUR festival, understanding that we had an unexpected venue change that has caused us quite a lot of extra costs and additional work, we are offering everyone who has bought tickets for this years festival, FREE ENTRY FOR NEXT YEARS 2025 FESTIVAL! Our acts may not end up being exactly the same and the date will be announced in June 2024, but one thing we can guarantee is that the acts we work with are fantastic and always put on a fantastic performance with an atmosphere like no other, and we only aim for it to be even bigger and even better, for that we have no worries at all. We want to say a HUGE thank you to those who have really pulled out the stops and helped us save some of our initial set up costs, meaning that amongst other items, we now also have a stage of our own, an outside bar of our own, proper electrics (!!) and an awesome cage BBQ set up of our own, meaning we’ve been able to drop ticket prices from their initial release price. Therefore to anyone who had already purchased them at full price, you are welcome to pop into the Farm Shop to get a matched offer of 2 for 1, AS LONG as you have your tickets which have a number on the back, and a receipt for proof of purchase. What do you need to do for free entry next year…. 🎫 FOR HARD TICKETS BOUGHT IN STORE: Write your name, email address and telephone number on the back and hand them in on entry to this years festival. 🎟️ FOR EVENTBRITE TICKETS: You MUST print them off, do the same, and hand them in on entry to this years festival.
