Prior to the screening, at 6pm there will be live music from Alice Di Micele & Force of Nature brought you by Del Norte Association for Arts & Cultural Awareness (DNACA). There will also be photo opportunities with Lucasfilm-certified Costumers around 7:30pm! The screening will start at 8:45pm (ish...when it gets dark enough to play the movie!) I’ve taught it to the Fortuna Junior High 7th graders. I did one day where each class came in and I taught to each one of those classes. So, to give you an idea, yes, it is something that is easy to understand, it’s new, it’s based off of scientific information that we know and have had, a lot of it we’ve had quite a while, and it’s put into a context so that it’s relatable to the individual. Wishing you and your piscine pals a happy World Fish Migration Day!🐟💙Migratory fish have a pretty nice time of it here in redwood country’s Smith River—California’s only undammed major river and the cleanest waterway in the U.S. outside of Alaska. I wonder if the former fact has any bearing on the latter?🤔The Smith has remained truly wild, its clear, cold currents allowing resident species such as rainbow and cutthroat trout and charismatic migrators like anadromous steelhead and Chinook salmon to flourish as they swim freely between its Klamath Mountains headwaters and its mouth just north of Crescent City. 🐟 Mill Creek (in the video), a crucial tributary and stronghold for the silvery coho salmon, has recently undergone restoration, further ensuring that the Smith River system remains a watery paradise and unimpeded travel route for all aquatic species. My own love for this river began in early childhood when my dad Ben worked summers as a State Parks Naturalist at Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park. When I was a kid wading along its banks and swimming in deep boulder-lined pools, I often chased and clutched at the park’s plentiful bullhead catfish—definitely denying them the free range of movement that even these homely non-migrators deserve on World Fish Migration Day—and every day! 😞 I did outgrow that behavior eventually . . . The second annual Forest Moon Festival is nearly here. This event celebrates the connection Humboldt and Del Norte counties share with that Galaxy far far away, as the filming locations for the Forest Moon in episode 6.
