When Days of Future Passed was reissued in the 1970s, it had to be remixed because the original master tapes had been damaged. If you're a vinyl collector looking for the original 1967 mix, as far as I'm aware there isn't a surefire way to tell by looking, but here's how you can find out which mix it is: - If the record store isn't super busy, ask if they have a turntable hooked up. - If they do, ask nicely if you can put the record on to see what mix it is. This usually isn't a problem. - Drop the needle (carefully!) about halfway through track 1 on side 2 and listen for John Lodge's falsetto part in the song "Evening." - If there are harmony vocals, congrats, you found the 1967 mix! If it's just Lodge by himself, it's the later mix, which is still worth buying if you don't already have it. (or even if you do.) THE MOODY BLUES ... A rock band from Birmingham that led the way for a lot of udder bands. They produced a sound that hadn't been herd before. Indeed, they put the Moo in mood. Although some wondered what they put in their milk when they started singing about nights in white satin. Not a lot of cattle wear white satin ... or any other colour satin, for that matter. But when asked about it, the lead cow said he was just a singer in a rock and roll band. At least that was his tail ... and he was sticking to it. A bit ahead of their time, they did however know whenever it was milking time ... even writing a song about it called 'Go now' ... in fact, it was well known they got to go every Tuesday afternoon. When they herded all their songs together on one album they first decided to call it 'Days of future pastures' ... but after chewing it over for a while they passed it over. Formed in Birmingham in the beat era , the group had already had a UK number one with Go Now , when Denny Laine and Clint Warwick decided to leave the band . Ma fu innanzitutto un anno di canzoni ed eventi senza precedenti: il primo concerto televisivo in mondovisione, in cui i Beatles cantarono "All you need is love" davanti a 400 milioni di telespettatori; il processo che Keith Richards e Mick Jagger subirono in Gran Bretagna per possesso di stupefacenti, con l’ augusto “Times” che li difese chiedendo clemenza alla corte (e la corte fu clemente, evitando il carcere alle due rockstar), il Monterey Pop Festival, la morte di John Coltrane e Otis Redding. Fu insomma un anno, il 1967, senza precedenti dove furori elettrici, visioni psichedeliche, degradati paesaggi urbani metropolitani, utopie, viaggi lisergici e sogni in technicolor presero vita Londra si trasforma da grigia città industriale a capitale di tendenza artistica e musicale, con frotte di giovani che arrivano in città, con spirito di emancipazione e mischiandosi con la controcultura del periodo, fatta di diritti civili, sessualità e droghe. John Lodge - Days Of Future Passed - My Sojourn This is a re-recording of the classic Moody Blues album 55 years later by one of the original members. The album features Graeme Edge who recorded his poetry sections not long before he died. It also features vocals on two tracks by Jon Davison (Yes since 2012 and Lodge's son in law). This is not a reimagining or a redux like Roger Waters and Dark Side but remains faithful to the original. There is more emphasis on electric guitar and drums and the album as a whole has a rockier feeling to it, especially Peak Hour and Evening. This is an artist revisiting the album that changed his life and made his career. An album about time and aging recorded 55 years apart which is rather fitting. On this day fifty-six years ago, November 11, 1967, The Moody Blues' Days Of Future Passed album was released in the United States (it was released one day earlier in the United Kingdom). Wikipedia: Days Of Future Passed is the second album and first concept album by English prog rock band The Moody Blues, released in November 1967 by Deram Records. With its fusion of orchestral and rock elements, it has been cited as one of the first examples of progressive rock. The album was a moderate success upon release, but following steady radio airplay, particularly of the hit single "Nights In White Satin", it became a Top Ten US hit in 1972. It has since been listed among the most important albums of 1967 by Rolling Stone. The Moody Blues did not play any of the music to Decca executives until it was complete. Upon the first play, they were disappointed with the result as it was not the Dvorak arrangements they expected. Walt Maguire, representative for London Records (Decca's North American arm), however, thought it would be a strong seller in the US, so it was agreed to release the album as recorded. In the US, the album was a steady seller in the late 1960s, helped by FM radio play of "Nights In White Satin", and eventually peaked at #3 on the US Billboard chart in 1972.
