First Time Watch - Blades (1989) . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ . Just when you thought it was safe to putt… This is the most idiotic, but ridiculously comical b-movie I’ve seen in a long time. Blades tells the tale of a possessed lawnmower hunting unsuspecting golfers as they prepare for a big tournament. The first 20 minutes had me wanting to shut it off out of boredom, but once it picks up, it plays out like a love letter to #jaws and parodies the film in a really fun way. Blades 1989. This one is about a demonically possessed low mower and we are immediately hit with a offscreen death of a couple making out in the middle of these tall grass then your hit with the title card blades your later shown the after math of this couple there death and the brutality of it is insane there clothes are shredded up and there arms are sticking out of the sand trying to hold hands this is a complete masterpiece with the special effects. Best line to me (I’ve seen all kinds of things on this job I’ve seen mutilations amputations and decapitations once I’ve even had to go pick up a guy whose wife took a home light 360 to his lower groin area do you know the damage a chain saw can do to the human body but I ain’t never seen anything like this before well there was that kids arm who got caught in a tree shredder last summer) we are hit with another off screen mow lower blood gusher through the tall grass I find it funny because this film is filled with off screen kills and it pretty much just shows the after math but I can’t complain due to the fact that the after math special effects are super well made. The brutally in this film is honestly crazy. It’s funny seeing a mow lower moving by itself killing people the ending was a awesome explosion. Have not seen it in maybe 18 years now but always remembered. From the rest i have only seen Ghosts of War, a couple of months ago on Prime. I liked it, thought it was original. Some of the rest i heard off and others just looked interesting or funny and then the Seven on the bottom are from a old Belgium Label called Emporium. It isn't around anymore and they usually had the weirdest movies. Here’s another redesign/revitalization I did for the 1989 film Blades because I felt it deserved better. Not only does my redesign on the right drop the awful ‘pseudo-metal local tv ad font’ in favor of a simple tasteful red font, I also dropped the washed out boring sky with something a little more interesting. Like all my redesigns when I did the recoloring process I made sure that the skin was more natural looking & flesh toned. Sorry I am not a fan of orange skin. And if you notice I also made sure to enhance the woman’s bosom… all in good taste of course… Of course. Blades is almost a shot for shot retelling of Jaws only with the shark being a renegade demonically possessed lawnmower. WHAT ARE SOME MOVIES YOU'D LOVE TO SEE UPGRADED TO BLURAY? . . As you all are probably aware, I've fallen into a video tape rabbit hole. Theres no philosophical reason for my sudden VHS-enthusiasm... and I'm definitely not well-versed enough to be considered a "tape head"... but here we are. I've started collecting vhs tapes. I guess what excites me about the format is that it's an opportunity to dig for treasure. Sometimes you find things no one is talking about, or better yet... are not readily available in any other outlet. I haven't found any holy grail items here, but today's picks are three films that haven't been released on bluray, but truely deserve the treatment. . . NIGHTFLYERS: A team of scientists and a telepath venture into space in search of intelligent life... only to find themselves up against the ghost of a possessive mother living in their spaceships computer system! Released in 1987 and directed by Robert Collector -although he chose to have his name omitted from the credits. This sci-fi horror flick is a confounding mess... but holy shit is it a FUN MESS. It's a strange mix of gothic horror with Star Trek weirdness. Add on that a few gruesome kills, spectacular miniature effects, and a hazy atmosphere! . . BLADES: Released in 1989, Blades is a remake of Jaws. Only instead of a beach, Blades is set on a golf course... and instead of a shark... the killer beast is a heavy duty lawn mower. Under any other director, you'd expect an Airplane! style spoof... but Thomas R. Rondinella made the bold choice to play this straight. Aside from one or two sight gags and a few well placed puns... Blades is better because it takes itself a lot more seriously than it should have! . . SATAN'S PRINCESS: Directed by the king of shlock -Bert I. Gordon, the man behind King Dinosaur, Earth vs. The Spider, and Empire of the Ants- and starring Robert Forster. Satan's Princess came out in 1989 and follows a cop on the hunt for a runaway teen, and becomes embroiled in the path of a seductive demon. With lots of sleaze, lots of melodrama, and some pretty cool practical effects, Satan's Princess is a sloppy piece if trash that delivers the goods without apology!
Day 2 of #80shorrorweek with a first-time viewing of #blades1989 Didn’t expect that it’s influence was due to Maximum Overdrive. Flat humor all throughout. Only The Quint-like character was the lone, saving grace of this movie for me.
