From bits of biographical information we could glean online, Kovacs was born in Hungary and studied art in Budapest, Munich, and Florence in the early 1940s. Presumably his career path was interrupted, like countless others, by the war, and eventually he made his way to Canada in settling in Montreal in 1957. He established Kovac Art Creations in the St Michel district, marketing his work under this name. So many stories of immigrants starting over in new lands. 🎲♥️60s Pop Art cartoon drawing Mod dress♥️⚓️ This dress has so many things on it- dice,a peace sign, dynamite, & many phrases/ words like “what you see is what you might get” & “remember the Maine” I have searched and haven’t found another, I would love to know more. I think the artist is Tony Krupa, this is the name on the can on back. The only information I can find on him are some vintage dresses with his name on the tag from the 60s. The tag on this dress is Pennys Loungewear and it is 100% cotton and a stated size large. **This dress has never been worn, it has a mark on the front from how it was stored for years. I soaked and stain treated it but this remained. Also, there are two small rust spots on the back from a pin where the price was. Aside from all this it’s really like new. Maybe a more intense stain treatment would get that mark out but I didn’t want to jeopardize the text-& honestly i soaked and soaked 🙃**( it still presents beautifully imo) Measurements: 36” length 24.5” bust, doubled 49” 27.5” waist, doubled 55” 30.5” hip, doubled 61” Added this to Etsy, you can always purchase direct via dm! Something very different today, and something I’ve never had before. I have three of these used aluminium dry point etching plates by British artist Anthony Currell. They were almost certainly for an exhibition he had at the Arnolfini Gallery in Bristol in the 1960s. Currell is probably best known for his wonderful paintings and etchings of Welsh miners from about this time. His works are held in the V&A and MoMA amongst many other institutions. I’ve started cleaning the plates (they were filthy) and now need to get a little more ink back into the etched grooves, although the design is much more visible in reality. This plate measures approximately 61cm x 45.5cm. The other two are a little larger. I’m a little at a loss to price these. I’ll decide once I have them all cleaned.
