Our first Orange-tip butterfly egg of the year, spotted by wildling 2. These tiny eggs are a joy to find, and actually quite easy for wildlings to spot when they know where to look. This is the ideal time of year to spot them. Here's some info for anyone that hasn't spotted them before: 🟢 First, you need to find Cuckoo flower (Cardamine pratensis). This is really common in the UK (and throughout the rest of Europe) anywhere with damp ground, so damp meadows, stream banks, damp woodland rides and glades. 🟣 Cuckoo flowers have 4 pale pink petals on upright stems (Picture 2 and 3). They'll usually have Orange-tip butterflies flitting about around them and feeding on their nectar (Picture 4). 🟠 The little orange eggs can be found on the stems just below the flowers. When I first started paddle boarding I used to sneak down to the river (usually after tea), and paddle up Penpol creek to explore. It was always so beautiful, with the flow of the tide, wildlife, sunset, peace… . I STILL love to do this, even after all these years, I never get bored! How can you when it’s different every time?! I just love exploring under the over hanging trees and lying on my board looking over the side for passing fish or up at the sky at clouds (and rain, which has been very ‘on trend’ this year 😂). . I think it’s incredibly important to give yourself a place to relax or practice mindfulness when you can. It’s as important as resting your body when you’re physically fatigued. Orchids and red kites on my run today. . I killed my legs in the gym yesterday (why don't I know better yet?!) so it was a slow long run on the trails today. But that gave me time to stop and admire the orchids after taking the paths which are rarely used by the locals. The red kites were soaring overhead no doubt after the baby bunnies and hares which are everywhere now.
